stalker series megathread v. whats your favorite pipe dream
stalker series megathread v. whats your favorite pipe dream
My favorite pipe dream is CoC & Warfare with the ability to have a couple friends join you in the Zone in actual open-world multiplayer.
I want to chill in Kopachy Village with a buddy, snipe zombies and chat.
coc and shoker 3 is all I want
coc and shoker 3 is all I want
Yes. Shoker is very neat. I love those 3D scopes

This isn't Shoker, this one is Gunslinger.
[editline]25th September 2017[/editline]
I love Shoker, but it's very easy to get good weapons at the beginning. Like in the vanilla CoP.
use the stcop distribution mod, its the best balance ive found with coc in terms of economy/loot.
Oh I also thought the same. They struck a fine balance. That's due to the progressive-linear nature ShOC has. There was a noticeable difference between the suits damage resistance and if you spent some time scavenging around you could find some pretty decent weapons that were stronger than the weapons that appeared at the part of the story you were in. Plus the gunplay -weapon zoom, sounds, recoil, enemy resistance- was extremely gratifying.
Having that kind of balance in CoC is hard because you can start and see a guy packing some heat across the street so that "Spend time towards better gear" kinda dissapears. There should be an incentive to trade in high tier equipment for something back, not rubles, or a quest that demands in order to progress an insane amount of money. That and more interaction with the STALKER factions, within and between. Like Marbalo said, seeing some kind of impact.
Perhaps in the future DocX or someone else will implement a story driven questline for each faction, apart of the dynamic quests.
The other cheap option is to basically set extremely low % for high tier weapons and make everyone pack a cheap ak74 or aksu
We never really balanced the economy, no effort at all really except to fix insane money exploits. The only time there was balance change was in 1.3 when we're gone for nearly a year and a bunch of addons were thrown into CoC by ExImIeR. There was no point balancing weapons and outfits if people were just using addons.
R5 you are going to see effort into game balance for economy, protections, outfits and weapons. Items are going to be more rare, and progression will be slowed down so that there is actually purpose to getting better outfits, helmets and backpacks. Food will need to be either bought or cooked, bandages will be a necessity. No, it's not going to be misery tier where you make no money and your weight is crippled. In fact, with rare exo and rare backpack you'll be able to carry more then you could in the base game. You'll still be able to get rich if you know what you are doing, but that's more because of stalker's innate design flaw where there isn't really much to spend money on. The goal is to drag out the hobo phase and make finding/buying new gear rewarding.
There has also been some bug fixes and tweaks to the engine, like weaker buffs from consumables no longer overwrite better ones, FMJ/AP have a difference, helmets now apply certain stats making them as useful and comparable to full outfits. Outfit and NPC protections have been balanced by understanding and using the actual formula in the engine source code rather then speculation. Master will be much more difficult and difficulties selection, like always, will still be available.
The map progression is linear, the maps themselves still allow a certain amount of freeroam. I like STALKER's gunplay a lot, i like the hobo phase, and i like the AI interactions and their unpredictability. I'm not saying CoC doesn't ware itself out but I think you are just opposed to the experience CoC is providing.
That realization that you speak of doesn't happen for everyone, but if you do have it then i don't think it's really the experience you are looking for. I thought the lack of story was my problem with it but the balance and difficulty was, and once i got something that drastically changed that i found out that's all i needed to enjoy it and get absorbed.
Conversely I find CoP very hard to go back to because it's a lot more scripted, and I know the quests, and I don't like the open theme-park nature of the maps but again, there isn't one singular draw to the games, different people like different elements for a variety of reasons.
Yeah, I totally understand the appeal of just playing an NPC going about his business, and it's what originally made me excited for CoC. But that only lasts you for so long, you know? Like at some point that feeling of being an NPC just wears off and you realize that you live in a world entirely populated by NPCs just like you and that no amount of Gun Porn mods or itemsoups are going to change the fact that there's no point to anything. There's absolutely no urgency to even your existence within the zone, and nothing prevents you from just going straight for the exit in south Cordon and leaving the zone, besides the physical gate itself.
I dont know if Im communicating my point here coherently enough, but I feel as if CoC is fundamentally boring because STALKER's maps are much more linear by design than folks realize. This results in the player just going over the same maps again and again, not exploring by definition because they've already been everywhere before. The bloodsucker in Agroprom's underground was much less frightening the second time around, not to mention the 100th time. Most players would be able to easily navigate the Zone with absolutely no map besides the occasional glance.
Like, you're trying to play linear maps in a sandbox that takes advantage of none of the narrative elements the maps provide. I guess that's what prevents me from enjoying CoC for more than an hour at a time.
have you tried those STALKER themed mods for ARMA2 or ARMA3?
Time for the FP yearly 'shit on Misery' discussion for the next four or so pages.
Well it is the Brutal Doom of STALKER mods, so it's not really surprising. It's always funny how mad people get over an SP mod other people play. I say just play them all for what mood you're in. Want something that's got a very extended hobby phase for that just getting by feeling? Play Misery. Want something that's great for just free-roaming? Play CoC. Want insanity and more content then you'll probably even play? Play SGM or PeopleSoup.
The best part of games like this are that you can play in pretty much any flavor you want, from gritty and realistic to nonsensical craziness and anything in between. And the more time we spend shitting on random mods, the less time we spend playing the ones we do like, whatever they are.

This sounds fuckin' incredible fella. My favorite parts of the game are always right at the start where I'm trying to get my shit together. Too many mods either go way too easy on it and you can be set in a half hour or you've got Misery. Extending the hobo phase, eloquently put, is a dream come true for me. I hesitate to ask, is there an ETA?
the issue I have with Misery is the dumbfucks who act like its the definitive STALKER experience and say 'DOOD U MUST PLAY WITH IT FIRST TIME"
Then some guy actually listens to them, gets fucking destroyed, hates the experience, and then acts like stalker is the shittest game ever
the issue I have with Misery is the dumbfucks who act like its the definitive STALKER experience and say 'DOOD U MUST PLAY WITH IT FIRST TIME"

Yeah, this is exactly my problem with it too.
I can respect the work that went into MISERY as a mod and as a cohesive experience but the fanbase of it is the most obnoxious, annoying shit sometimes.
I tried call of misery, and fuck it's even more brutal than the original misery.
I sort of like having to scrounge around bum-mode though, guess i'm a masochist. But fuck, how the hell are you ever supposed to work up to any measure of good gear- when you're barely managing to keep your gun functional?
Also first game, i made it all of 10 meters out of skadovsk before i was mangled by a swarm of dogs.
So yeah, What araknid and Lyokanthrope just said, if you use this shit to introduce people to stalker, you're going to make them hate it.
Oh man
If I ever get to know you, Alundaio, I will invite you whatever drink you want.
Of course, it has to be either an energy drink or some cheap ass vodka.
fucking hell the prices in CoM are ridiculous, barkeep is charging almost 17000 for one large MRE. what the hell

Almost everyone I know who doesn't/didn't like STALKER was talked into playing Misery on their first playthrough. "It doesn't change the game much, just makes it better!"
Almost everyone I know who doesn't/didn't like STALKER was talked into playing Misery on their first playthrough. "It doesn't change the game much, just makes it better!"
For shits and giggles i've been giving it a go to kinda reaffirm my thoughts on it. I figured, it's been a while since i last played it and if i'm gonna talk about it, i might as well reinforce it a bit, and lo and behold, i still don't really like it.
personally I never found anything to complain about misery wise, and I never so much as disliked it, but I sure do wish I could get my hands on whatever fucking artifact the ai is using to throw a grenade directly into my anus perfectly every time. They can get me even if i'm running around really fast

Cheeki Breeki can't even buy a single Kabanos.
Hey,i keep getting this fatal error when i near Yanov Station on CoC:"Arguments:Not enough textures for shader, base tex:act/newloner/upper_d".Then there´s some stuff from ntdll.dll,xrCore.dll,xrRender_R1.dll,d3d9.dll and KERNELBASE.dll. Anyone has a clue of what is this about?I have STCoP weapons pack installed and Ninja Nub´s WIP HD models as well.

The file BlenderDefault.cpp is the one that keeps shutting down.

My playthrough with misery tended to revolve around leave in the morning spend the day sniping bandits/mercs and selling their gear to make it back just in time for night to avoid mutants. Twas fun but quit in the jupiter because of dwarves being near invincible.
Very good mod providing you want to just do your own thing and not follow the story, following the story could prove rather difficult.
Amusing though when you take a bunch of meds after a fight and end up starving to death.
I really like all the weapon/armour maintenance stuff. Polishing your gun after a hunting trip or taping up your armour after a fire fight is really nice - but also another reason why following the main story is very difficult.
Is there any compatible mods for 2.2 that add balanced merchants? I spent an hour hunting zombies and I can't sell any of this shit. There's numerous mods out there that do this and vanilla is ridiculous in this regard, imo there's no excuse to not default have something of the sort in a big mod like this.

Well there is excuse, write by Misery Development Ltd. them self :D

I was laughing from tent they made, and how they explain that this is how it should be...

Those comments are gold. That guy sounds like one of those apocalypse preparation larpers.
I know you can cram a full squad into a relatively small tent but a tent that's the length of your torso isn't going to give you much cover. A makeshift lean-to would probably be a much better use for that tent cloth.
Then again I'd probably avoid sleeping outside of actual buildings when the entire zone fauna is after your tasty meat :D

Jesus you'd figure they'd all have died from methane poisoning from having their heads so far up their asses and huffing their own farts by now.
trying to clear X-16 in CoM without any psi protection because no one sells helmets. controllers and burers project absurd damage in all directions across a giant area now. tell my wife i love her.
I was playing CoC's beta and [sp]I went to the Oasis on an Azazzel character because it was my 'goal', and instead of the dogs that show up on grabbing the Heart, a child-like mutant showed up and was pretty much a 2-ft tall Burer but with the same passive psi-craziness that you see in some of the labs and around the emitters, and it also seemed to just be unkillable with my shit Warsaw rifle, multiple shotgun blasts, and a grenade. I eventually just gave up and ran away while downing medkits like candy. Anyone know what the hell that thing was? I'm not a true STALKER veteran so maybe I'm just a little ignorant.[/sp]

Karlik, old cut mutant. You can find it in some other mods like DPP and >muh builds type stuff.
