Wish they'd carried through the destructible environment props to the final game a bit more.
Is it me or they recycled tree assets from that 2002 tech demo?
Is it me or they recycled tree assets from that 2002 tech demo?
They recycled a ton of assets for years.
Imagine if they had hired Ninja to make their NPC models :excited:
Imagine if they had hired Ninja to make their NPC models :excited:
Isn't Ninja narb just mixing and matching Arma assets? Not that it isn't still impressive or appreciated, but he's not modeling things from scratch.
Is it me or they recycled tree assets from that 2002 tech demo?
heh, its nothing, they actually recycled few textures from their previous game: Codename Outbreak that was released in 2001 :]
And Groza rifle from Firestarter. It makes me worder - what were they doing for all these years? Then they made CS and CoP in far shorter time. 3D Realms played WoW but them?
[sp]They probably masturbate for all those years...[/sp] Its always like that when small dev team take big project. Too much ideas, not much people and experience. Limited resources and millions of smaller problems that stack on top of each other... Everyone make something that doesnt work with each other or dont fit the main project idea. Not to mention new engine, that dont really help and publishers/investors Shadow of Chernobyl should be released in early 2005, but even if it get a bit old and was not that advanced as games from 2007, it fight with other with most important thing in game: atmosphere. As for CS and CoP... all what they had to do was to get what they did for all those years and stick it with ducktape :]

Something I love to remind people: judging from builds and all, the DX9 Full Dynamic Lighting renderer that we know and love from SoC stayed the same since 2004, basically. It aged very well. The game also went through many iterations in terms of concept and storyline. Of course, no-one can really account for 2005-2007 where the game basically stayed the same except removing Darkscape, Dead City, and all vehicles :v:
Wasn't that timeframe the one in which THQ started pressuring them more?
Two engineers who created the majority of X-Ray's framework quit around that time.
@alundaio and all other users: did you saw new CoM: Last Day 1.1 ? Im not too good with programming/stalker engine and most of my knowledge I base what my friends tell me or I get from other source, but just like that Last Day 1.1 have in changelog "support for 8GB of RAM" and I was surprised that such news went silent, And I was wondering if you could confirm that its not one of those fake thing that I saw few times for past years in some of mods... It would be weird that none of bigger mods didnt had that, and Last Day have it, when they cant even make their own main menu(they still use this ugly Misery poster...) Stalker is not only game that stuck in 32bit world that cant use all modern PC resources, I asked a bit in other forums and they all say that its a bit fishy because they fight with other old games to work better and they still do this for all those years, and here just like that CoM mod support it? :/ I cant check it right now by my self, thats why Im asking if anyone saw that... source to forum with download links: http://ap-pro.ru/forum/119-90531-1
words
I don't know about Last Day in particular but there are a couple 64-bit forks of Xray floating around (X-ray Oxygen and Im-dex's "XRay 1.7"). None of them work that well as far as I'm aware.
you sure that's not just large address aware?
Well they say its not. Not to mention that this can only put 4GB that is actually 3.5GB(rest is used by system). This is the limit of windows it self, only Windows Data Centre Edition can set more. I dont really want to make huge discussion from that. I was just wondering if alundaio could explain me that, because Last Day is based on CoC 1.4.22 and he just know stuff better than others... Its just that small thing that I cant get out from my head and I cant check it by my self right now, because it is a matter of downloading and checking :/ I just dont have proper PC and net for that until next week...
The CoM post-release has added new particle effects: https://vk.com/wall-131799462_110538 All through scripts and spawns according to the translation. It also says the particles are dynamic and dependent on the weather and the player's location: no fog indoors, no dust when it's raining. Cool stuff.

CoC has 2 years worth of it's own custom code added that would make it extremely difficult to port to any other drastically changed Xray repo. It's too early to do so and would just be a waste of time as Im-dex repo is going through some serious overhauls, with entire modules being replaced or rewritten. There are also a few bugs that prevent even the vanilla game from being played from start to finish. Now, I keep seeing people bringing up Oxygen repo like it's some new thing. This is Forser's repo which was built on a very early version of Im-dex's repo (BEFORE it was made x64) and has not ever been kept up to date. It has stuff from 10 other different xray repos added to it, which make it a soup. It's a broken mess. Try the public builds on the github, you'll see it cannot use more then 4GB of RAM. x64 is on it's way with Im-dex's repo. But it will take some time, if you want it to be stable and optimized. And until then CoC will never be x64 as it would just be a waste of time to port it over and then try to maintain it across new updates.
So I decided I wanted to play through STALKER again any one of them. I'm just wondering what are the must have mods now for those games as I don't know how out of date that flowchart is.
its pretty out of date. if you dont mind ditching the story call of chernobyl is some good fun, as well as a more modernised stalker experience.
AMK is the still the best overall stalker mod

I feel bad because it might be false alarm but... GSC twitter account was filled with Cossacs3 news before and after release. Until now https://twitter.com/GSC_GW/status/916030925426880512 about Last Day... LD 1.1 went from CoM addon (1,7 GB) to separate standalone project (8,7 GB). From what I see it have support for more CPU cores. It runs better, that's for sure but loadings saves takes more time. Wonder how does it compare to Echo of Misery (still WIP, last one was v0.42 iirc) where it support more CPU cores and more RAM. Couldn't read more because it wasn't translated yet (because nobody translate WIP mods unless they're abandoned duh). It have even slower progress than original Call of Misery and bring some stuff and features from Misery 2.1/2.2 while original CoM does not. I was digging in the Last Day files with DBextractor and found interesting files named secret_zaton, secret_jupiter and secret_pripyat, all tied with secret.ltx file. They all listed content of vanilla CoP stashes and maybe Misery2 but can't find any information to how enable them under what circumstances. Still - 6-9kg for leather jackets? Give me a break...
I've given up hoping.
I had forgotten to hope, thanks for the reminder :v:
