So Im planning on going to Eastern Europe around June 2018, and one of my destinations are Pripyat and the CNPP. Im going to save up for a decent DSLR with a wide angle lens so I can capture some of those sweet sweet pictures.
You have to pay 50$ upfront to even enter the power plant.
I'm having some problems making a decent start in CoC 1.5, atleast as an ecologist. Tried a loner yesterday which somewhat worked better, but you can only do so much with 20 rounds of shotgun ammo and spent your starting money on bandages.
Best was I noticed some clear sky guys having problems with bandits at the church in the swamp and thought "ez loot", only to find out them guys are quick at looting somehow. They didn't used to be in vanilla, right?
I installed the loot money, artefact drop chance and some mod that allows all mechanics to upgrade without the need for tools, but still it's a pain somehow because I just die from dogs. And that's on rookie.
What am I doing wrong?

Lack of experience?
Lack of focus?
Lack of Vodka?
Lack of love to holly monolith?
CoC is one of easies mod out there in terms of damages/looting. True that NPC have eyes like hawks and in terms of looting they are better than economical refugees visiting social service, but after 2-3 hours of playing you should have medicore suit, and favorite gun ready to modifying/repairing.
But if I can give you a tip, best way to get good loot fast, is to going to Limansk, from Dead City route. With some practice and good aim, you can wipe most of monolit guys by using corners(any gun with auto is needed, just make some noise, stand behind corner wait and when they go closer just give them burst in the face). And if you are budy-budy with mercs they normally wipe most of them by them self so its a matter of fallowing them, because for most of time they are in alert mode so they dont loot anything so all stuff can be yours + you have quick way to Dead City to sell all that stuff.
Also must have is to set traders to buy used guns. Its Fricking stupid and annoying when they dont buy stuff that is 50-80% condition. Its not only not realistic(because normal trader would buy anything for parts just lower the price) but also break fun of playing. Its better to carry some trash and sell them cheap instead of spend few days looking for gun that have 80-100% condition just to find out that you get less money that cost of bread and medkit...
Hey fam, I need advice on which mod to install for my CoP playthrough. I'm more or less just adhering to the story, so no need to worry about freeplay. I used to play this with Complete 2009, but it seems that's... fallen out of favor. Any overall visual/gameplay/model enhancements that just make the linear story more enjoyable?

Absolute Nature/Structures are the go-to texture upgrade mods, although there are others.
Ninja's HD models mod is excellent for high-quality NPC model replacements, and if i recall correctly works with CoP.
Speaking of mods, I've been itching to do a shoc playthrough as of recent, does anyone have any mod suggestions for just adding some improved guns and general fixes to the base game?

But 2016, not that crap DMX. All Solyanka mods beside NS2016 are like cancer filled with pneumonia and covered with cockroaches.

half the fun is the suffering though
Soups are the best
"Marked one go grab a jacket"
"Sure"
Picking up the jacket causes hundreds of zombies to spawn who overrun the cordon

I tried another run yesterday as an ecologist, reduced the artefact drop chance to 3%(still too high), but managed to stay alive some time. Well until I decided to check out Zaton after running around in Jupiter for a while. Found a few monolith guys on my way back to Jupiter from Zaton, but didn't think they'd follow one. So I loot the factory in Jupiter kill some bandits, get attacked by pseudodogs and teamed up with a merc I found there. So we're still fighting this one pseudodog, while all out of a sudden the PDA shows like 11 new peeps. A few seconds later it was like 22 people showing and basically it went down to a bandit vs monolith vs us shooting, didn't take long for a bandit to shoot me in the head with his shotgun.
And all I wanted to do was loot 3 more guys... that's what you get for being greedy I guess?

Running ironman? Sounds... intense, given the game's habit of fucking you over at level transitions and whatnot.

My best ironman run ended unceremoniously when, with an upgraded merc SEVA, I jumped over a mound in Vehicle Graveyard and died instantly.
I still haven't worked out what killed me and I'm still salty.

To not spam here with wall of text, here are links to main article that will explain why this update suck and why there is that small thing called "Tiny Little" version that just pretend to be HD.

No, but I tried different starting locations and so made a new character basically. Ironman mode would've fucked me over already.
Took me like 2-3 saves to get from Jupiter through Red Forest to Limansk, and then from there through Dead City, Yantar(without psi protection :v:) and now I'm at the Bar, on my way to Sidorovich.
Man, one thing I keep forgetting bugs the shit out of me in Clear Sky
Does Scar have fucking Haemophilia or something? He just bleeds forever if he gets hurt and you have to use like half a dozen bandages to stop it :v:
scar was later diagnosed with stage III lung cancer causing low platelet count and resulting in almost chronic bleeding, dying later in hospital of vodka chemo poisoning

I don't think that is right.
As far as I know, he died of extreme electrical poisoning, followed by fatal ZiL carcass excess in organism while he was on the way to his well deserved vacation.
like if you cry every time

Scar pricks his finger on a thorn. Scar is later found dead after bleeding to death.
Scar stubs his toe and it starts bleeding. Scar bleeds to death.
Scar bleeds at the slightest injury and it never stops on his own. Clear sky was always fun needing to carry around 50 bandages, because you had to eat a bandaid sandwich every time. Seriously, it takes up to 5 bandages to stop bleeding sometimes.

One of my fondest memories of Clear Sky is attempting to take over the pump station with the starter sawn-off, dodging bandits and trying not to bleed out while desperately rummaging through the reeds in search of bandages and ammo
Man, Swamps in Clear Sky is truly baptism in fire. Bleeding is one thing, the fact that enemies can see you through the bushes and swamp flora while you can't is my issue with that place. It's like being surrounded by predators in their natural environment that shoot you randomly and give heart attack and despite being armed with the same guns (Makarov pisstol and sawed-off shotgun) they blast you into the space while you can't do much beside lucky headshots.
That and moments when you almost capture point and then some goon scream "Then spotted us!" and "Quest cancelled" follows, more than one...
Wandering with pitiful Makarov pisstol through open wide Cordon (where you can see what attacks you most of the time, unless you get sniped with assault rifles) is one way to introduce you to the Zone but Swamps? Fuk that place.
Swamp would be a whole different game if the AI couldn't zero in on you through the brush so easily.
I can't imagine why all those stalkers would even chill out in that death trap. There's nothing actually there worth hanging around for.
Swamp, after Dead City is one of worst and useless map in Stalker.
As far as Dead City is just too small and empty, Swamp is just annoying.
Honestly Swamp could be amazing map if it would be dark place with mist, heavy atmosphere and no sun all the time.
If it would have more abandoned houses that actually make sense(its literally just like CoP maps, big place with few blobs of building where player need to do something and rest is empty space).
And most important it would have less Stalkers and more wild animals.
Because what really is in swamp that could force Stalkers to be there? Nothing at all. So in reality it should be something like simplified Cordon where there is just Clear Sky, that want base near edge of the zone out of the reach for others, there should be one or two military posts(actually best place for heli-pad that would patrol rest of the zone) or one place with scientist that would have nice place to study natural environment of the zone. And thats it. Rest would be filled with animals, and some newbie stalkers that didnt want to go to cordon thinking that they can go deeper to the zone using swamps, and then realize that its pain to even go though all that mud water so they would stuck alone somewhere in the middle, too afraid to go further or go back dealing with military.
Swamp, after Dead City is one of worst and useless map in Stalker.
Dunno, I absolutely loved everything Clear Sky did to locations. They just need to be utilized differently to be awesome.
And as far as I know, Swamp will be expanded in future CoC updates.
I think Swamps is actually one of my favourite maps - it's just that it's such a backwater in every game there's not much reason to go there.
It's tucked full of these lovely little vignettes like the hidden cave and the train cars from the CS intro. It has a lot of adorable little farmsteads, the object of adoration that is the old church and it's impressive (and almost entirely wasted) verticality, the pump station chugging away in the middle of the map, and of course the CS base - rickety, cosy, and I think the only Stalker base with its own shower.
I think GSC's map design peaked in the Swamps - it's just that they put it in the Stalker game with objectively the worst gameplay and built a bunch of cookie-cutter combat quests around it that neither encourage exploration nor give the player the chance the appreciate the map. The heavily irradiated water was also a pain in the arse.
[editline]11th December 2017[/editline]
Although, actually one thing that irks me about pretty much all the Stalker maps is that pretty much every building is laid down on an obvious grid. It's especially obvious and nonsensical in the swamps.
Well, the reason the Swamp is full of people is because it's virgin lands that used to be full of anomalies, only recently made accessible by the mega-emissions. Clear Sky made its base there because it was hard to navigate there.
There's a lot of little details to the Swamp map that, in my opinion, makes it really stand out from the others both visually and gameplay-wise. The reeds and irradiated water makes for a lot more interesting terrain obstacles than random cliffs, honestly, and makes the map feel larger than it is. It's also full of nice little hidden places like stashes tucked away in clearings or out in some half-sunken junk.
I agree that it's more atmospheric with constant rain and fog, but the same could be said for any area, really. The nifty thing about weather/daylight cycle is it breaks the monotony.
If we're talking about non-vanilla useless maps, I'd say look no further than Darkscape.
Speaking of Dead City

New Arsenal 4.4
Playing it right now, it's gut

I dread the day I come across a stalker mod that has Darkscape modded in, but the mod itself doesn't have vehicle support
