I said in my post that i tried Garbage spawn and it was still just as bad. Also i would disagree, 2 chimeras and 2 pseudogiants as roaming mutants in zaton aren't something i've ever seen in CoC.
The Garbage is pretty bad too, though. There's always a million packs of dogs and boars.
Is it weird that Last Day's difficulty feels right to me? I guess I just like that slow grind to get deeper into the Zone.

Is Last Day's difficulty more like Redux, where things are more dangerous and more scarce but not in the artificial way of Misery?

this sausage is actually pretty good
not that im eating it by itself, i've got some cheese and mustard and some crackers here
If the solution to a mod being fuckoff difficult is to remove everything that makes it difficult, maybe the mod isn't actually "difficult", just impossibly unbalanced against the player artificially. If that's the case, maybe the mod isn't worth playing at all.
Yeah when I'm just running along and I immediately die to absolutely nothing around or any warning it's a little much and unfun to the max.
Not sure who cares about it, but the 'extended pack' was just released for Lost Alpha.
It includes the STCoP-based weapon pack along with a ton of other goodies.

I still need to get around to trying Lost Alpha, I've heard about the [sp]Illuminati shit[/sp] but still I'd assume the rest of the mod is aight
Oh aye.. I'm not proud to admit it, but I turned down any psi-related damage/range/effect down to 1%, because really what the fuck.
But even, as I recall in the latest misery patch, a pseudo-giant can be felled by a claymore mine and maybe 1 regular grenade. CoM sounds like absolute heartache.
the ONLY way to actually play misery without changing any of the miserable settings- is to grind-scrounge your way to an Eco-suit. When you're finally done spending fortunes on antirads you can actually start playing the game. Find artifacts, mod your gun, travel the zone, etc.
This i actually found rather compelling, it really fucking forced me to learn exactly where the rad-hotspots were, steer very clear of anything dangerous, and on that note orientate very very carefully.
I basically hopped between zaton and agroprom for like a whole ingame week, selling ammo to the military and mutant parts to the scientists, and hunt/loot the surrounding areas. which allowed me to make a net-gain of money despite all my expenses.
I've never been more invested in the zone in a survival sense than i've been in Call of misery, so it does get major props from me despite the things that are clearly bullshit.
Fucking retarded stalker in Last Day teleports right back to where he was captured when I make the level transition from the swamp to cordon. Ungrateful little shit can die there for all I care, not making the long trek back.
[editline]29th December 2017[/editline]
And now when I get back to the location of the quest giver, they magically teleport back. Well, at least I can turn in the quest now.
[editline]29th December 2017[/editline]
And back to the swamps they go, What the fuck.
[editline]29th December 2017[/editline]
Seems I could turn in the quest anyway, but screen went black for a brief second.
No i don't really think you're grasping this.
I literally could not progress, because i had starter weapons against legendary mutants/hordes of 10 mutants or more within the first 5 minutes of starting the game. In every single direction i went, regardless of where i started the game, i was unable to go anywhere or do anything.
A sawed off TOZ and a PMm won't kill a controller that's halfway across the map that's still hitting you with it's control, nor will it stop 6 snorks from pushing your shit in, nor will it kill 6 fleshes and 5 boars all rushing you at once AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE GAME.
A UMP45 and a PB won't kill a single pseudogiant or chimera before they eviscerate you, let alone two of them, nor can it kill 4 bloodsuckers all at once.
I LOVE the moments you described.... when i actually have equipment beyond a double barrel shotgun, a PMm, and a leather jacket, with no anti-rad or medical supplies whatsoever.
In that scenario, I'd just keep dying over and over again until I manage to push through. I'm not saying it's fair or easy, but the AI isn't always that smart, especially for mutants. The water radiation is stupid though. Never liked the sudden burst of rads when your pinkie toe hits a puddle.
I'm mildly disappointed and firmly fed up about the fact that Last Day has absolutely no unique storyline of any kind.
Wasn't the entire purpose of CoC and its variations to provide the community with a huge sandbox capable of supporting extensive modding and custom quests? The majority of the mods for CoC remain just packs of items, outfits, mini-mods and "300+ variations of the AK74" weapon packs. I honestly don't understand how these can hold anyones attention at this point by their own merit.
You launch CoC with Last Day, you choose your character and faction, and you spawn. You get used to the mods mechanics and gameplay, soak in the new reshading and retexturing of the same environment you've seen for probably years, and then what? Start doing randomly-generated quests for faction leaders? Clearing out never-ending dens of mutants or assassinating completely random stalkers half-way across the map with no backstory to any of it? Turning off the brain scorcher for the hundredth time? Running from lab to lab collecting the same documents? To what end? There's nothing to tie it all together in these mods. It's as if there's no demand for a proper backstory, fleshed out storylines or unique quests. I think one of the biggest selling points of STALKER is being neglected for some reason, and I don't see why that is.
Mods that pour their resources into making huge overhauls with fresh, polished storylines, quests and dialogues are seldom seen in the modding community, yet when they do release every once in a blue moon, they're released to universal acclaim from fans and offer a breath of fresh air, more so than the 50th iteration of Misery.
This is exactly what I'm waiting for. I'd honestly rather play some obscure Russian storymod than CoC at this point, since I'm pretty burnt out on wandering aimlessly through the Zone. I wonder if people are holding off and waiting for 1.5 to release before they make quest mods?
That's pretty much why I'm semi hyped for that stcop port to LA. Freeplay is still fun for me but I miss exploring brand new areas, when you don't know where you are going exploring is a lot more tense and interesting.
I never played beyond a few levels of LA because of the lack of A-Life and walking sim gameplay, and I heard about the godawful story, but with DC out now and supposedly with proper A-Life and more side quests - i figure why not.
The story might still be batshit but if the AI can give me some of those STALKER moments I can deal with it, i'll just pretend it's a slightly more grounded version of reborn :downs:

Honestly, LA is still plenty STALKER-y and they have removed a fair few of the dumber story elements from it.

This was indeed the misery team's logic- they took the time to balance these variables so the player had to navigate the extreme difficulty.. Including skipping major storyline objectives until you had the proper gear/ammo.
Glad at least one person in here saw the value in that!
I've played STALKER so much over the years that while story elements are cool, I play it practically just for the freeplay element now so I don't got beef with LA

This.
Misery forced me to plan things rather carefully and I actually enjoyed that a lot. Also I dont know if its a thing that many other mods do but having stashes always contain the same things was nice as well. I like putting in the time to find every little stash, and I really hate when I do find some well hidden ones but they are just empty.
Also I usually just loot stashes and then blow up all of the stalkers at the transaction to get a sunrise suit, PMK mask and a mid-range shooter because my style is usually more of a mercenary than an ecologist. It will protect you against rads and against weak anomalies for short periods of time, which is all I need when fighting.
Is Last Day's difficulty more like Redux, where things are more dangerous and more scarce but not in the artificial way of Misery?
I don't feel like it's quite as rough. It comes with a lot of addons and the STALKER mod manager, so it's pretty easy to make it harder or easier as needed. One tweak I always do is just to make it so you can sell damaged gear at lower condition levels, usually around 10-15% so I can scrounge up money a little easier.
Last day just felt like misery, I pretty much immediately uninstalled after an hour of gameplay, Where are my SGM style mods people.
SGM + CoC would be great.
SGM + CoC would be great.
So long as the bullshit "travel multiple times across the entirety of large maps for shitty fetch quests" are cut or heavily reworked.
Didn't LA have an incredibly gay ending?
Didn't LA have an incredibly gay ending?
Strelok and Ghost recognize their love for each other and move into a romantic dacha with their pet mutant dog.
What are those plant things that hang from the ceilings in lost alpha? What do they do?
What are those plant things that hang from the ceilings in lost alpha? What do they do?
Throw a bolt at them.
If they ragdoll and wiggle around they're generally harmless, but if you just see a little spark then they'll sting you if you walk underneath them.
(Carnivorous plants would totally be a Zone thing, though)

Does Lost Alpha have those things from OGSE (or wherever it first originated) that are some sort of plant thing that clamps in on you like a crusher trap? Those things freak me out :v:

Probably, I'm not sure :v:
They're actually models that have been in STALKER's files forever, probably one of many things that ended up on the cutting room floor in ~2004-2007
I first saw those things in oblivion lost remake, they are pretty unsettling.
Isn't the idea behind it like a plant that kills you by giving you tons of tiny cuts while you are trapped?

When I first ran into one in OGSE I got a heart attack, thing made me think I was being attacked by a spider
So I got CoC and started playing it for the first time. Started as an Ecologist, walked out of the bunker in Yantar, the game crashed. 10/10, the real STALKER experience.
So I was doing a Stalker 'Race' with a friend last week, and this happened.
