So, I went to Yantar in CoC: Last Day and, uh. Spirit keeps talking about giving me a Beril 5M suit if I bring him twenty bottles of booze. I've got more than enough -- does it have to be Putinka, Stolichnaya or Nemiroff? Doesn't really specify.
The year is 2054, the advent of quantum computing has exponentially increased the capability of user machines. An inebriated Slav goes too far with neural net machine learning, leading to the nuclear armageddon and the cataclysmic downfall of mankind. In a small pocket of East Europe, a lone toaster of a computer finishes uploading a specific file to the skeletal internet that remains. Gunslinger Open Beta has gone live.
stack trace:
oh my fucking god. this is the sixteenth time I've tried loading this save fuck this, I'm going Monolith, fuck all y'all
Who knew that something as simple as this: would take so long? It took a whole day just to get this simple quest working (the tricky part was that you're not turning it in to the person who initially gave you the quest - which is basically hard coded into the game) Next up: your requests/ideas
I know that its probably impossible or hard as hell, because it would need lots of work to force mutants to stop fallowing A-life and do scripted things. They could not just spawn and behave like normal(attack if see you) but run away in specific direction, separate from group, etc, etc. Not to mention that NPC with you would also need to have lots of scripted behavior, like sneaking near enemies instead of going rambo-mode like they normally do. Plus you would need to literally empty mission area from any random enemies, because they would probably mess up it, because stalkers would be in sneak mode and they would just start shooting them and they would not react to it... Charms of open world game....
Not impossible at all! There is actually an entire system for scripted events for stalkers, mutants, and world events, but it's barely even used. How do you think the stalkers sit at campfires/drink and eat at tables etc. That is scripted stuff. Sadly, it seems like CoC barely scratches the surface as what is capable with it, so I can script custom events such as: faction wars, stalkers hunting mutants, loners getting into fights, etc.
My 2 cents - something alongside mysterious artifact in the CoP where someone want to snatch it too and you got choice whenever you agree to give him back the arts or not (for money), randomize reward for both sides. Bonus points for subtle clues that might tell you who might give you more (dunno, the way he talk? Like - he say something but then end with "...oh, nevermind", something like cheap villain theme or else). And randoms betrayals - even if you give arts there is a chance that might be a trap and you lost money he gave you, arts and in worst cases - your life. Artefact or other items - PDA, docs, special guns etc. 2nd - you got a job to kill some stalker, but turns out you get framed. You might get clues about stalker's innocence (PDA message, other NPC stopping you) and you can get revenge, both of you, on primary taskgiver. 3rd - PDA with puzzling messages that don't tell you much. When you walk around asking stalkers for job one of them might ask you why you carry this PDA (he tracked signal). Two options - he might be a killer (real) or a friend who's looking for that killer.
Very doable, and I had some similar ideas as well. I'll definitely be incorporating stuff like this into the tasks I make.
i like the idea of ambushes in quests, either as a setup or that it just happens cause the wrong guy was told about the job for example some shady guy in the bar wants to go with you to help check out some stash he scoped out but it ends up as an ambush as a bunch of bandits jump out of nowhere and try and murder you that or some rookie who's all hyped up about spotting some cool loot recruits you to go with him but it turns out to be bait for bandits or some bandits overheard it and are trying to kill you two and snatch the loot this could be random chance too of course like it could go smoothly too with no real way to tell edit: speaking of quests i hated the fact that you could take only one kind of job at a time this was annoying because you end finding a guy who wants someone up by the cnpp dead in the cordon and you gotta trek ALLL the way up there for some pocket change and cant take any more kill someone jobs because of that could also fix this by putting a radius on random quest targets too but still taking more of the same job sounds nice
I can either script bandit ambushes, or just spawn bandit squads near the player after they do something specific (ie, they grab an artifact and a squad of bandits spawns close - but not too close - and starts to run towards the player at an intercept course) Also for each area I'm giving multiple quest 'chains'. For example, in Jupiter, you can follow the Freedom leader (Yuri)'s quest chain which is mostly about establishing Freedom strongholds or wiping out Duty, or you can take a break and follow Trapper's quest chain which is primarily about hunting mutants.
Can you do rescue quests? Spawn a squad friendly to the NPC, spawn one hostile? Player has to sprint up there and help the friendly squad - and gets a variable reward depending on how many squad members survive?
Yep, I already do something like this where you're tasked with finding an NPC and you can either find him alive or dead - alive netting you a bonus reward. Wouldn't be hard to adapt this to multiple people (a squad)
About rescue quest... I wonder if it would be possible to do two types of rescue missions: 1. Mission just like in CoP where you need to rescue Mitay in Jupiter map from bandits but with some twist. To make it more "entertaining" mission would start by finding injured stalker on the road that tell you that his friend was taken hostage. Then you have choose to go rambo-mode, pay the money or Bandits will give you task to kill some stalker from your own faction. You will lost lots of reputation but you will rescue stalker without paying/killing them. And to make it more difficult you could make hostage location in some closed space(building, tunnel) and spawn more heavy-equipped bandits so you will need to seriously think about going rambo-mode, because you could not snipe them from a distance. 2. Mutant layer rescue mission. Mission where you need to go to some mutant layer where there is lying stalker surrounded by mutants. Trick in this mission will be that you cant just run there and kill mutants. If mutant spot you, it will attack that stalker and you fail mission. You will need to sneak to the mutant and kill it before he get to the stalker. Those type of missions should give nice stress to player because normally in stalker you can just run around and snipe enemies and then rescue guy. Here you cant snipe enemies, because it would not be in open space, and you need to sneak close and attack with all you got keeping an eye to not kill stalker in the same time(read: no grenades) also you need to be quick or mutants/bandits will just kill that stalker.
both possible with scripting. Definitely going to do something similar to this.

I don't quite get it - did he fix the fucking annoying bug where your camera position pops hardcore when you're reloading? It made CoP pretty annoying to play
Went Monolith, found a Merc exoskeleton within 5 minutes of entering the Radar on a corpse that wasn't damaged or worn, next guy dropped like sixty dudes worth of loot that he'd probably taken from other dudes that had died. then I went and watched a bloodsucker with spikes on its back try and 1v1 a pseudogiant. I think it was sent to the moon.
I don't quite get it - did he fix the fucking annoying bug where your camera position pops hardcore when you're reloading? It made CoP pretty annoying to play
The first part of the video is a demonstration of a change meant to, based on the description, "fix the improper blending of camera animations on the last frame while your character is moving". In this case, depending on the showcase, it seems to fix the weird camera "snapping" when you're firing your weapon or reloading it while moving, so yeah, if this is what you meant, then it's fixed.
Next up: your requests/ideas
Directed quests for the mechanic toolkits would be cool. Rest of this looks neat.
regular mutant hunting gets boring fast
It'd be cool if one of the mutant quests had a twist where it turned out to be a psycho killer like a cetain other quest, except in the context of random quests you'd never know when it would happen. Is it possible to have a human npc that only attacks with a knife and does a full sprint at you?
All I wana do is repair my trash and i find this: [T]https://i.imgur.com/cZ3qS7T.jpg[/T] What gives.
All I wana do is repair my trash and i find this: [T]https://i.imgur.com/cZ3qS7T.jpg[/T] What gives.
And you think why Hawaiian send them cases of vodka every week? They are alone in Zone, surrounded by guys with guns. All they have is them self and cozy bunker... and vodka...

sweet forward assist
Only a few more years.
Looks amazing. If only it were for CoC :(
Only a few more years.
They have been working on this weapon for a while now, there are still many unfinished rifles in the progress document. I say 3 more years.
Directed quests for the mechanic toolkits would be cool. Rest of this looks neat.
What do you mean by directed, as in the toolkit quests have waypoint markers?
It'd be cool if one of the mutant quests had a twist where it turned out to be a psycho killer like a cetain other quest, except in the context of random quests you'd never know when it would happen. Sidenote: Feel free to add me on steam (the one under my username is the one i use) if you feel like talking about your ideas more in length. I'm getting pretty good at utilizing STALKER's quest system but Im pretty uncreative when it comes to quests.
No one ever gets the reload correct, you're supposed to reach over the top of the rifle with your left hand cock the lever and karate chop it for that forward assist, taking your right hand off the pistol grip is a big no no
Same thing really with AK-platform rifles in almost any game. The bolt gets too often racked by either taking the right hand off the pistol grip or by reaching with the left hand from under the rifle.
Not quite GUNSLINGER, but I did manage to get some pretty depth of field effects for weapon reloads

Radiophobia is an unstable mess but its got this atleast to make up for it:
The icon for vodka is really nostalgic.
Its mystery for me how updates work on Modb... I often check mod section with "updated" on top, and often I find mods like, right now ABR mod or Oxygen Project that say they where updated few hours ago but they dont have anything new on them... :mystery: Funny thing is also when I upload file or article to my mod... and site dont care about it, but if I upload image, it bring mod to the top of the list immediately... :mystery: Also in other news, I made small comparison of my Stalker Two-K with default CoC textures and Structure Redux. http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-two-k/news/comparison-of-textures I wanted to upload those gifs here without link, but its almost 40MB, and I dont want to slow down loading of whole forum page just to show them.
All I wana do is repair my trash and i find this: [T]https://i.imgur.com/cZ3qS7T.jpg[/T] What gives.
I hate that little setup, it feels like it always glitches no matter what mod you're running. He needs to just load in already at the desk and stay there instead of walking in.
Has JP2 usurped The Soup™?
Are there any mods that make CoC permanent hobo-tier? I always found the lower-tiered weapons the most fun to have fights with.
