Pick up the Dark Runic Mantle, you should be able to get it off the AH, and if not go run HoS, it's almost guaranteed to drop. Run H TOC until the robe drops, then replace those eventually with the conquest chest. Get the Sundial Of The Exiled, it's a quick 40 badges and well worth the time. Run AN til' the wand drops off the last boss. Quick instance, quick badges, quick lewtz. Do your best to always find a good MH/OH combo, because those always give more stats than a staff. Until you get into Ulduar, you are going to have absolute hell trying to get hit, it's a pain in the fucking ASS, just gem for it the best you can. Never use two color gems unless it's for your meta.
Basically, find a Naxx 25, now-a-days most PuGs will full clear it.

Sundial of the exiled procs like a motherfucker now(I can even spam rank 1 life tap to activate it), it's a mean dps boost. Usually you'd combine the 2 but may I say there is a trinket in VH heroic which gives a fucktonne of hit passively and spellpower when activated.

Right now he has that stupid trinket from The Battle Of The Undercity, the easiest and quickest upgrade he can get to boost his DPS by a decent amount is the Sundial.
40 badges is nothing.
