• Why is "jumping" included in so many games?

Because I can use jump to reach unreachable places.
my character is attached to a rail
?
Jumping is prevalent in most games around, but why? Think about it, how often to you jump throughout the day? Yet whenever jumping is not included, you feel incredibly restricted. Why and how has this mindset developed?
How often do you shoot terrorists or germans or space aliens throughout the day?
In real life we can jump. So why not?
Multiplayer just isn't as fun without everyone hopping around like idiots.
Think about it, how often to you jump throughout the day?
How often do you gun people down, kill aliens, command armies, steal cars and on and on? But if you were doing these things, chances are that you'd be jumping now and then. When I used to play WoW, my spacebar was broken.
DOOM didn't have jump. It was fun.
Doom didnt have any terrain that needed navigation other than corridors and rooms. Still fun.
Doom didnt have any terrain that needed navigation other than corridors and rooms. Still fun.
Fun until you get to the super barons that have like 32942347032742987293 health then after that part it's fun again
Doom didnt have any terrain that needed navigation other than corridors and rooms. Probably needs multiplayer though.
It adds a level of gameplay. Instead of being army soldiers running around on the ground, why not let them jump over a clearing into another balcony? It adds a bit more strategy.
Perfect Dark Zero doesn't have jump in it. It just has tons of lunatics constantly spamming the "Dive to cover" key instead. And I should mention they are in the middle of the road with the nearest cover object 20m away. PDZ is like the epitome of "FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-" cover FPSes. Slow movement, health regen, animation based cover, and no jumping. And wait there's more. It is first-person AND console exclusive. Good game, but it is underrated because of butthurt fans of the original didn't get exactly what they wanted and IGN didn't get payed.
We feel incredibly restricted because we can't jump over a cereal box that's blocking our way. :hurr: [editline]26th February 2011[/editline]
Perfect Dark Zero doesn't have jump in it. You can't jump in Timesplitters 2, and that's one of the best console FPS games of all time.
Woo! Alien Swarm aswell!
Except the original AS was 2d, and the source version is just same gameplay in 3d environments.
How many times do you do anything you do in a game throughout the day God you're so dumb
I run about 50 times a day, erryday. [editline]26th February 2011[/editline]
Except the original AS was 2d, and the source version is just same gameplay in 3d environments.
I meant the Source version, as I have never played the original. Because of the number of twelve year olds that only know new games I figured it would be relevant.
It's not like you have to jump every second, is it?
Actually you kind of do in games like quake.
Want to go over a railing? No. Want to go over a fallen tree 2 times as high? Why yes no problem!
To be honest i hate it way more when its in a game where you can jump, and it is so obvious that you can jump over X object, such as a railing, but the game simply doesnt let you.
I jump all the time in games, it makes me feel I'm going faster.
I jump all the time in games, it makes me feel I'm going faster.
You are.
I hate when games put ledges that you should be able to fall off of, but you run into an invisible wall right on the edge so you moonwalk in a sprint. If I want to jump off a cliff I will dammit :argh:

(Resident Evil) Seriously, the damn game ran on the quake engine, but it looks like it is some '80s adventure game with poorly superimposed character models in it. Thankfully when they upgraded to the Quake 3 engine with CV they atleast stopped using that damn environment style and actually textured the map.
imagine unreal tournament if you couldn't jump [editline]26th February 2011[/editline]
(Resident Evil) Seriously, the damn game ran on the quake engine, but it looks like it is some '80s adventure game with poorly superimposed character models in it.
Where are your sources stating that it RE1 runs on IDTech?
Where are your sources stating that it RE1 runs on IDTech?
http://residentevil.wikia.com/Resident_evil_1 (Look at the right-hand side with the basic info) Normally I would not trust a wiki, but seeing as this info has been there for YEARS, and seeing 12 year olds don't play RE or put BS on related wikis, this source is pretty good. If the subject in question was Halo, then this would be insta-BS. Apart from that, a good amount of RE modders claim it runs on IDTECH 2.
~snip~
Jumping in the Elder Scrolls was how I built up my acrobatics skill. Just spam the spacebar when going up stairs or a hill.
~snip~
Why the snip?
In big games such as Fallout and Oblivion, I like to jump everywhere. I think it's fun.
Why the snip?
mispost, had two tabs open and thought I never replied to you.
