I hope this game gets more attention on facepunch once the prototype is out..
I can guarantee you, if there isn't a facepunch server as soon as multiplayer is available, I'll make one myself.
New demonstration video

Yeah they haven't said much in the past few days, hopefully that means they're busy programming and not the alternative.
[sp]The alternative is they're face down in a pile of coke.[/sp]
Crap, I was expecting a new video. Anyway, I can't wait to play the prototype. Even in its current state I'll spend hours on it.
Devlogs and stuff are on Fridays. Hence why they are mostly silent, they wait for Fridays.
Just backed the project with 25$. Can't wait to play the prototype!
Backed up for two betas. Can't wait to get to play the game.
one week till kickstarter ends and we supposedly get the alpha
no dev diary yesterday :(

Yeah no dev diary, damnit.
Also uh, I don't want to make you depressed but the prototype/alpha will be arriving in October.
Yeah no dev diary, damnit.

That's not what the kickstarter page says.

That's the beta, stupid.
Ok, let me be frank, we’re stuck with the reward descriptions we’ve written. We wrote August because technically, the Kickstarter ends on the 26th. But in all likelihood, it won’t be ready until September.
The huge size of our Kickstarter is putting significant strain on our small team. We’ve been getting so many email and requests, that we are having a hard time working on the actual game these days. We’re at 400% and will probably reach 500% by the end of the month, so this means that we are required to put 400% as much effort managing everything than we originally planned for and that will probably last until the very end of the Kickstarter. So as close as we are to releasing the prototype, the Kickstarter is also slowing us down considerably.

Our milestone (accounting for all possible delays) is to release something in time for the IGF submissions which is on October 17th. Ideally we would still release something earlier than that, but if anything happens, you are guaranteed some kind of release by that time.
Between September and October, and anyone who has ever followed game development knows it's highly probable it will be later than sooner.
Our milestone (accounting for all possible delays) is to release something in time for the IGF submissions which is on October 17th.
Hence why I say prototype. If they released the Prototype for the end of the Kickstarter, they would say "to release the beta", not "something".
What? It looked like they already had a perfectly functioning (yet basic) sandbox according to the video.
What the fuck are they doing?

Probably trying to deal with PR and optimization as well as adding new features. There's a lot that goes into game development, PR happens to be a huge one, especially when there's people's money involved.

yeah let's insult this guy even though he's totally right
just because they have it working on their machines, doesn't mean it's in any sort of working order. can't blame them for wanting to get more done.

Hopefully, it either ends up being early September, or they decide to release the prototype early. I'd imagine they are thinking of releasing the prototype when it's "complete" (as complete as an alpha can be anyway).
Let's hope they decide to release it at the end of the Kickstarter as it is and then update it once or twice, before moving onto the beta.

I'm wondering if they won't be forced to release a prototype between August and September. I don't know Kickstarter's terms but I guess they have to somehow stick to the rewards they promised.
If they don't they should at least make some sort of announcement before the Kickstarter is over.
generally if you're a developer you can kind of know all the bugs you have and avoid them while showing it off. plus you also have the magical power of editing if a bug does pop up.

they probably also have to get servers up and shit. i pray they put this money to good use and get better servers than ksp
New video

I was hoping some news about the game development.
[editline]19th August 2012[/editline]
But it's a cool idea though
Some news
Also they added a FAQ on the front page, which says this about the prototype:
The prototype is an early alpha build. It represents what we’ve shown so far that works. The amount of content and the replay value will be limited, and the build will probably be slightly broken. But we want people to test this version and give us feedback so we can make the Beta better.
I hope it means we'll get the prototype soon since they apparently don't plan to add features or polish it.
Was is explained how you get to other islands?
"Magic! … also, bridges."
http://www.sauropodstudio.com/faq/
[editline]25th August 2012[/editline]
Nothing more precise than that afaik.
Gonna take some pretty huge bridges to get to some of those islands.
