In the video there was a wooden bridge to a smaller island near the end.
Now lets hope that they have a lot of warfare, and it doesn't end up like every other sandbox building game where everyone just builds their spergtower. The fact he said "What's the point of building if you can't blow it up" gives me hope.
An RTS where you have to build every single structure by hand seems kind of time consuming, especially since RTS games tend to go by really fast.

Most RTS I play last about 1 hour per match on average, sometimes the match goes on up to 5 hours (SupCom). Starcraft is fast but that is just one kind of RTS.
Also quite sure this is not meant to be a traditional RTS.

That depends entirely on the RTS. Soase, Civ and other 4X RTSs tend to take quite a long time. The only fast RTSs I can think of are Starcraft and Dawn of War, and even DoW is slower than Starcraft.
I would love for this to have individualised characters for each of the grunt units (in a way like Dwarf Fortress), I think a game like this not only needs great environment based interactions but also great unit-to-unit interaction to make it truely memorable (so names, personalities, proficiencies etc)
I hope you can save blueprints of entire castles so that you can just set it somewhere and your guys start building the whole thing. Would make destroying it in battles much easier.
To me, it's very reminiscent of the vapourware Clonk Extreme game. I'd to see steampunk hang-gliders and cannon-armed airships eventually, but who knows what direction it will go in.
This game could very well squarely hit that niche goldmine genre in which Dwarf Fortress resides. Minecraft only accidentally bumped into it and then didn't focus on it, but this could hopefully become a big thing. RTS-like NPC control won't appeal so much to the ingrate 10 year old MC kiddies, but it does allow for so much more. I hope they keep their development open so we can follow along.
I hope they add some kind of transparancy mode or something so you can see through the castle walls easily when you a building.

Both, and maybe a way to change Z levels like Dwarf fortress, having a lot of transparent stuff can be complicated when wanting to view a single floor.

I was thinking it should be like the highlighting for which area you want to mine, so you highlight a cube and all the blocks inside it appear transparent.

Brood war games lasted me up to 2-3 hours at times
