What: IGDA-Montreal DemoNight
Where: The SAT, 1201 St.Laurent
Why: Demos from local devs
Who: All game developers, and those related to the game industry
Entry: free for IGDA members; $5 for non-members

"DemoNight"
DemoNight is the chance for local studios to show off their work-in-progress games to the Montreal development community. These are all pre-release games - some are big budget highly anticipated AAA games, some are indie projects of passion that we've never heard of before. All will be presented in real-time (no pre-baked marketing flying throughs allowed) and get approx 7 minutest to show off and be discussed.

I love the detail they put into mining, like the stairs appearing when the hole gets deep.
I like mostly how the terrain is smooth yet it's still a voxel game. Wish they'd release a demo soon.

Good. Making a large fort shouldn't be easy, this way fortresses are worth a lot more and it won't be easy to build a huge megafortress.

Would lead to really interesting games. Small, newly founded Lords with little castles slowly expanding outwards, trying to oust the big King from his impenetrable fortress. Would be fun to have a map full of floating islands, each with their own liege lord and castles of varying strengths and sizes :)
I'm a bit disappointed that it is only [I][/I]floating islands. I would love some other settings as well.

I'm pretty sure they're adding in more stuff later, like mobs and other settings. They just want to the core mechanics working first. If you can build and mine with one yellow guy, then it'll work with 50 etc etc.

Time-absorbing doesn't mean it's challenging. Just takes up more time and is annoying.

True, but how fun is it when everyone can just build a megafortress in 5 minutes? Anything short of a megafortress becomes useless/pointless, and there is no sense of achievement. Free building for 2 hours to build a decently sized castle is boring and not rewarding at all, building the same castle in a PvP game while at constant war with another player is another thing entirely.

The terrain is randomly generated, can't imagine it being too hard to modify the generation to make a single, huge island (basically making it on the ground).
You can't build a megafortress in 5 minutes, also they have mobs planned so you'll have to defend your yellow guys from baddies.

I didn't say a megafortress in five minutes would be rewarding. It's up to the developer to balance a good amount of time and also take into account a person's attention span. 30 minutes to build up a basic house just to survive the night (assuming night will bring enemies?) seems a bit much.

Damn, all of that's awesome, and I am almost completely sure they'll reach their kickstarter goal, but I hope they kick up the pace when they get their money and not just say "Fuck it, we'll just pull a notch"
