I'm guessing that crystal they're mining is what keeps the islands afloat, and the rock guardians are simply trying to stop them from killing themselves.
Makes more sense than in other RTS games like Age of Empires, where you collect meat from a berry shrub before stitching it together to create people and animals with it. At least that's how I always saw it.
I'm assuming it's just food that keeps the villagers alive to where they can make a kid, same thing as Civ 5.
how do we get from island to island? make giant bridges? also defending might be too easy if you put your castle on a separate, small island and destroy the bridge when attackers try to get over.
But then you would lose all the materials, and it would be slow going to repair.
Cause stockpiling resources is difficult? A smart guy would always have a wealthy stock of wood / ore / stone. Deleting a few bricks from your bridge wouldn't be difficult to repair. But then again, the enemy could bring a few workers himself to repair the bridge to allow his troops across. Bit of a dud tactic, wouldn't have much impact.
This game needs hot air balloons like in Populous.
I personally don't think hot air balloons would fit the story. I'd much prefer building giant bridges. Or ballistas that fire grappling hooks over set distances (obviously to a maximum range of something not too over dramatic). I can imagine setting up a ballista and firing a grappling hook over onto an enemy army. The enemy would have men stationed at the other end to try and push back your own men. Seeing little yellow men crawling across the line to fight the enemies on the other side would just be too awesome. I really hope they let battles be big. I'm talking about a minimum of 100 knights storming a castle. Would be extremely awesome. I hope the game doesn't consist of little battles of 10 knights each, or a battalion of 20 knights to take over a fortress. That would suck. [editline]29th July 2012[/editline] Or ballistas that fire grappling hooks that can be made into wooden bridges (that can later be upgraded to stone bridges?)
thats why you have archers to shoot his workers. but do the evil npc stone guys even have workers?
Archers make it more interesting ;) I think it'd be really cool, shelter your workers with a screen of knights. Sure, you'd lose a good few men in the process, but it'd be worth it. Clearly your enemy is worried if he has to resort to breaking his own bridge, shows that you are a big threat and that he is more than likely weaker than you.
thats why you have archers to shoot his workers. but do the evil npc stone guys even have workers?
In multiplayer, the other player will have workers. Man just thinking about having a server with a bunch of castles warring against each other is just too good.

Imagine having a vital trade route cut off by the enemy (so you can't receive stone from your ally), that'd be amazing. Sieges! Surrounding your enemy's castle and starving them of resources so you can slowly wither down their walls and not have them repair it. I really can't wait for this, I hope it doesn't let me down.

As for holing up in an island, the big rock monsters were shown throwing rocks, I'd assume that if you hole up you'll get pelted with nowhere to escape. As for players, hot air balloons and zeppelins I guess, together with artillery. [editline]29th July 2012[/editline]
God damn, Alliances and Trading will be awesome. I don't think we can expect much trading though (mostly because I don't expect to see many resources), but we'll probably be able to trade in building materials (now if it will be instant transfer or need to be carried over to the other player who knows). Surrounding the castle and whittling down the walls and their resources should work, just don't expect to starve them, I doubt there will be a food and hunger system.

It'd be cool to be able to cultivate your own farms, but I'm gonna be realistic and say it's too much hassle to include it in. As for the trading, I really don't mind if it's instantaneous or requires materials to be lugged over by workers. I'd prefer the lugging method, as it's more realistic and can pose problems such as slain workers (baggage trains, god yes. Sending out an army with a little squad of workers to build little forts along the way would be fucking amazing) so that means there's more intense action. All in all, I don't mind whatever they do with this game as it has castle building so I'm happy.

( I'd say for the worst, simply because working with managing food is pretty interesting for me instead of just building a castle and having rooms full of resources for building a castle... ) Cutting off caravans from enemy castles would be fun instead of instant trades.
i dont want this game to become another dwarf fortress clone
Uh, I don't follow stuff like Dwarf Fortress but, how many could there possibly be? Like, 3?
Well Notch tweeted their kickstarter. So that'll get them some attention. Unfortunately that probably means the Minecraft community is going to make up a huge chunk of this game's community (though it probably would've anyway). Also hats:

It's filled with Minecraft obsessed fools and idiots asking for shit like tanks and helicopters.
Community was shit already. For some reason most indie games attract the dumbest of the dumb.
Probably because Notch tweets about these games and sends his army of retards in the masses towards any decent indie game. Edit: Oh, that's how this conversation got started.
Have you seen the suggestions forum they put up? It's filled with Minecraft obsessed fools and idiots asking for shit like tanks and helicopters.
That made me laugh far more than it rightfully should have done.
Maybe some of them were joking but I can not see how any sane person could really suggest a TANK or a HELICOPTER for a MEDIEVAL game. It's not even just barely hinted, it's about fucking castles, how do you not get that?
Probably because Notch tweets about these games and sends his army of retards in the masses towards any decent indie game. Oh, that's how this conversation got started.
I don't think it's fair to blame Notch for that, I mean most popular games have shit communities. Garry's Mod has a pretty shit community too. Most gaming communities are shit, it's just that Facepunch bans the idiots Notch tweeting about an indie game is basically the best thing that can happen to an indie game in social networking

Definitely not going to argue that. But it also adds a slew of kids who aren't particularly familiar with what the game is trying to achieve, so they just see another Minecraft, which is where stupid requests come out of.
In multiplayer, the other player will have workers. Yeah me too, for about the first week I'd probably just be in awe of other players building it.
Fuck your castle building carebear stuff, hardc0r3 no-brick 360 catapultshot MLG no scrubs p2w
yeah but i'll probably end up getting super pissed having players raid my castle after watching people build it in real time
Then this game isn't for you then. Even in singleplayer shit will raid your castle.
Then this game isn't for you then. Even in singleplayer shit will raid your castle.
I'm quite sure you can disable that in one way or another. I won't touch it most probably, but I don't think it'd be hard to do. Of course if someone wants the game for peaceful building I'd wonder why, seeing as for that there are many better choices.
