So guys, I've been chatting with both Tom and John at Novint and we're discussing possible promotions for you guys. Do you have any ideas? I'm thinking a good discount (30% or something?), but what else can you guys come up with?
Just saying, the 30% won't help until the 40% from referrals wears off. I can't think of much except % discounts but that doesn't seem very special (I mean, it's awesome, but I'm just thinking that there's not much else you can do).
Anyone can get a 40% discount now, so why bother with 30%? It needs to be extra special for Facepunchers, as if Facepunch is the referrer, so like a special 45% off or something would tip most peoples scale, whilst leaving Novint a decent profit margin I hope. I would say probably even selling most of the units for over cost but over 40% off, would be a good deal, the interest it would round up with all the youtube videos, gaming sessions and stuff would boost sale considerably. Just look the Black Friday deal, imagine that all year round in sales, the effective % you knocked off would come back probably 5 times over.
I think you guys are missing the point, it's a permanent discount not one that will last another 6 days. [editline]07:42PM[/editline] And suggest something if you don't like the idea of a flat discount.
You could make it somehow tie in with a Facepunch account (join date dependant probably best, so people won't just create lots of spam accounts), so it's a real good special deal, but only 1 per person from Facepunch's respected community members. So he won't have to give loads away at like 45% off, just from real activate long time members.
Thing is I'm not sure how we could make sure only Facepunch users could use it...
30% discount is great. It's not so special though, white pistol grips with a facepunch logo would be awesome.. :D (The logo shouldn't just be stickied on.. It'd have to be painted directly on the grip. And some place where it doesn't get eroded off the surface of the grip.) This would probably be too expensive for Novint though, and we're in no position to make demands. :)
Thing is I'm not sure how we could make sure only Facepunch users could use it...
Well do you think Tom and his team could handle Facepunch only transactions somehow through email? It would be more time consuming for them, but a sale is a sale right? I just don't know if they have the man power to do it. That way they could require like a picture of your Facepunch control panel that displays your join date, name etc, so that way it is a definite FP user. I don't know, it's tough if they can't be personally addressed.
Thing is I'm not sure how we could make sure only Facepunch users could use it...
This. 1. The refferal code could be leaked to others. 2. People could just join Facepunch for the discount. Why would anyone outside facepunch want pistol grips with facepunch logos on? [editline]08:59PM[/editline]
Well do you think Tom and his team could handle Facepunch only transactions somehow through email? (Or however it's spelled :S)
Wait, does this work with Crysis: Warhead? Or just Crysis?
This. 1. The refferal code could be leaked to others. 2. People could just join Facepunch for the discount.
And why wouldn't I just use a picture of your account?
Because it would be one per user? So if I gave you picture of my account, then I am losing a chance to ever get one on special FP discount. Plus WHY would I give you a picture of my account?
Because it would be one per user? So if I gave you picture of my account, then I am losing a chance to ever get one on special FP discount.
Wait. What do you mean by account? I'm talking about that thing to the left of your posts..
I am talking about going into your user control panel and click on your profile settings, that display is unique to you, so only the account holder can do it.
Someone explain this to me, I live in Ridgewood - New york and I'd be pissed if this doesn't go through
Is Ridgewood in NYC? If not, don't worry about it.
Just got mine; I'm installing all the drivers and crap now.
I can't think of any way to make sure only FPers can use it, except ridiculously time consuming and silly procedures on their part, or a handful of modding to the Facepunch forum to allow Novint to access data easily and automatically. In my mind, what could work is having there be a coupon of randomly generated letters/numbers that changes daily, or weekly (or whatever the Novint team feels is good). People on FP are added to a group (on FP) and can access a page that tells them the daily/weekly code. On the subject of manually doing it: possilby someone could PM a Novint account (accessible by any of the Novint Team) saying "Sent a request for the discount from ______ email."
Does anyone know how to get the Penumbra deal? I got my key but I'm not sure where I enter it in and download the game.
No, no Crysis Wars yet. Not sure if that is being worked on or not. And I think you may be making this more complicated than it needs to be. The 40% referral thing is limited time. It's for those who are proactive and spread by word of mouth. You gimp the referrers if there is a site that can get an even better discount for a longer time. It'll go back down and 30% would be higher. This is speaking as a referrer that refrains from directly posting my referral code. I came here mostly to answer questions so I don't really hold any weight but I thought I would throw that in.
Holy shit, :iia:
Does anyone know how to get the Penumbra deal? I got my key but I'm not sure where I enter it in and download the game.
A download link should have been sent to you. Check your spam box just in case it went there. If you didn't get the link then email falconsales[at]novint[dot]com about it and it'll get worked out.
I have been replaying episode 2 and it is fantastic. When the advisor is making a huge telekinetic mess, I was getting rocked and throw around like crazy. Awesome :D
Wow this is quite awesome, heard that Tom was a nice fellow, but I didn't expect him to email him in person. Maybe he has clones. Or maybe all his workers are all forced to change their legal name to 'Tom Novint' upon being hired. You can't get to me Tom! I bought my arms back off the black market and I am dedicated to unraveling your secrets!
Cool, now I can get an even bigger discount

Dear god this thing packs a punch. I was playing about 1.25hrs with the heavy, and when I stopped using the falcon I had a massive cramp.
Dear god this thing packs a punch. I was playing about 1.25hrs with the heavy, and when I stopped using the falcon I had a massive cramp.
Heh, did that with me too at first. Get used to it after a while. Was a little tougher for me since I'm left handed and not used to using my right hand as much.
Apparently, my Falcon has been flying from LA to the UK for almost three days now ;)
Dear god this thing packs a punch. I was playing about 1.25hrs with the heavy, and when I stopped using the falcon I had a massive cramp.
Oh that's nothing, try Half-Life 2 :P Some of the things in the half-life series will really throw you around, and driving is really cool.
Turtles can be pretty heavy if they get big enough. I know I found one when I was younger and that thing was a little tough to carry around. Also, a gold turtle would be heaviest.
not as heavy as a uranium turtle.
Just sent in for a referral code, maybe if you guys would be so kind, if your thinking of buying one, using the code for 20% off, then once I get 3 of them, I'll give away the free Falcon to someone right here on Facepunch.
that's a cool idea
I emailed the referral services and never got a code back. When can I expect to hear from them?
we've been behind but are catching up. You should hear in the next day or two. If not, let me know and I'll ping John T
Oh my god, waiting for this thing to arrive it taking such a long time.
yep, Falconticipation can be painful ;)
You haven't tried it you ignorant asshole. It is one of my (any many others) favorite new addition to gaming. Really enhances the immersion. On a lighter note. I tried F.E.A.R. today with it, it is my new favorite Falcon Supported game. Seriously, it rocks. Anyway, I wish Mirror's Edge had Falcon support, I think it would really benefit.
F-Gen drivers are getting close. Here is a summary http://home.novint.com/community/phorum/read.php?6,18444
Your package is in the UPS system and has a rescheduled delivery date of 12/08/2009. Oh fuck you. It's only 3 pm and my package is just an hour away from here.
lol
To any of you that actually have the Falcon right now, how the fuck do I get the pistol grip to work??? I have been trying everything but pressing buttons on the pistol grip does nothing. The only grip working right now is the little one. Also how would I get this to work on steam games. I have downloaded all of the drivers etc.
yep - the issue you were running into was the Falcon drivers - you need the latest off our web site. Glad you got it running.
This thing kicks so much FUCKING ASS. Good lord in team fortress 2 play the heavy with full recoil force. **DUDUDUDUDUDDUDUDUDUDUDUDU-** Me: "FFFFFFFFFFFFFF-" *tries to hang on to grip
lol, nice. I love the heavy minigun
Someone explain this to me, I live in Ridgewood - New york and I'd be pissed if this doesn't go through
shouldn't be a problem in ridgewood, I think, but if there is let me know
Did you get the email i sent you Tom. It was from wannahax@yahoo.com.
yep, responded ;)
Guess it works seeing as you guys have a ridiculously low crime rate Anyone try this on L4D yet? It may have been the way I was sitting but I didn't find it that fun, just kinda confusing with the sensitivity and the recoil was just kinda ... meh.
I've heard a lot of people say they love L4D, but not my favorite either. The confusing part will go away, and probably will be more fun for you. I'd give it 10 hours to get used to the control scheme. I love TF2, after you get up to speed on the Falcon's control scheme
I got a question How long do Novint Falcons usually last?
there are a bunch that have been out there for a couple years already, and many are quickly racking up hundreds of hours. they are pretty robust.
Tom, will you guys export the falcons for sale at east europe by any time? It doesnt pay up for me to pay $90+ for just the shippment.
I'm not sure - we are going to work to get international distributors, but the shipping and VAT (though probably a tiny bit less) will still be carried over to customers. The exchange rate should help, especially with the pricing we're offering the Facepunch folks. With the Black Friday special, a Falcon costs 99 + ~$65 shipping = $164, which is 111 Euros, so you can think of it as 111 Euros plus free shipping ;) The current 40% deal is pretty close to that.
My net cut out at 98% of the "Penumbra Overture" file D: I spent some time trying to find out a way of not having to re-download the whole thing again, and In doing so I used up all my limit of the times I could download it. baw. Would customer support fix this sort of thing or would I have to email Novint dude. Also is there still a way with fixing the part file to finish off that last frigging 2%? I was using FireFox.
sorry about that - that is annoying. We need to get a more robust download system. There are download managers that work with filesanywhere - customer support can give you info on that customersupport [at] novint [dot] com. we'll get you more downloads if you need too.
Wait, does this work with Crysis: Warhead? Or just Crysis?
just crysis right now, but we're working on warhead
Does anyone know how to get the Penumbra deal? I got my key but I'm not sure where I enter it in and download the game.
email customer support (email above), and they'll get you a new download link. Also, check your spam folder. I bought my arms back off the black market and I am dedicated to unraveling your secrets!
There's just one of me, but I am a very large Falcon, which is a robot... the king Falcon if you will. Don't count on me not getting to you too
Heh, did that with me too at first. Get used to it after a while. Was a little tougher for me since I'm left handed and not used to using my right hand as much.
I didn't know you were a lefty, burger thx all, tomnovint
I'm lefthanded too but I suppose I am very ambidextrous. Just out of curiosity, how long is the average processing time ? I think I read up to a week.
