I'm lefthanded too but I suppose I am very ambidextrous. Just out of curiosity, how long is the average processing time ? I think I read up to a week.
processing is about a week at this point. Items ordered before xmas, we'll make a big push to make sure they get there before xmas.
Which color do you guys think looks best on a Falcon.
you can skin them at skinit too
I got Black, but an idea I just had was: Would it be possible to sell the shells for the Falcon (so, the outside colored part, I have to assume it comes off somehow) so people could paint or do whatever to it without messing up any of the internals. Tell me Tom, are they easily removable/is this idea plausible?
I'd buy an extra one and repaint it camouflage with my model paints. It'd be awesome.
I actually got a camo skin for a Falcon already ;)
the plastic isn't too easy to take off, so you're better off skinning it, but that works well.
I'm so pissed that I completely overlooked this thread. I'd never heard of this thing until now, but if I had seen it during black friday I would have pounced on it like a rabid cheetah. So pissed...
we're doing another deal right now, very similar to the Black Friday special. You can get 40% off using a referral code. Falcon posters on this thread have one if nothing else - you can message them.
When you DO get it, be wary that it will give you cramps and muscle pain if you're not used to this kinda force. Especially because with some guns you have to have a really tight grip.
there's a little bit of new muscle learning involved - you get used to it. Also you do need to set up your workspace the right way. I play many hours at a time, often many times a week, with no problems, soreness, or cramping whatsoever. I can go 10+ hour sessions with no problems.
Anyone know how long it takes the Falcon to get to the UK from LA? So far it's been 3 days according to the USPS details.

Arrival

the main issue I've heard is customs. You should stay on top of that - I think checking in there can help it to arrive quicker.
I've been spending my day off staring at the box containing my Falcon.
I want it to be Christmas so I can open it :<
(Except I won't be able to use it for very long after wards, we're having the Christmas party at our house. I have to interact with people, how old fashioned.)
if you show people the tutorial at the party - you will have a blast and so will everyone else. It is a great party item ;)
Garry wont do official support for the falcon :(
sounds like you spoke to him. I think things are much different than before, when he first evaluated it. If you can get him to check in with me, I'd love to talk to him about it. He can reach me at tf2contest[at]novint[dot]com ;) I think it would add a lot to gmod, and vice versa. We're selling a bunch of Falcons now, and it is real. I think 2010 is going to be a good year for us. I could get him some stock options as well :)
I see his predicament, but honestly the number is much higher than four, the Novint Falcon is only getting more popular, and with Christmas comming up I'm sure the number of users will get a large boost. Better to do it now than wait until you have a large group of anxious Gmod users who are complaining at lack of support.
honestly, I think it is less than the number of users we have now (which is growing), but rather what types of people use gmod, and what it could do for both the Falcon and gmod. gmod is very community based. core members, interested in tinkering with the Falcon and F-Gen would have a lot of fun with it, which would create more content, more Falcons, and more community involvement. It could really take off. I very much doubt that if Garry got behind it, that it would be for a small number of people. He should know that of anyone out there - gmod comes from humble roots.
thanks all, tomnovint
I'm getting the hang of this Falcon business. I really like it. The NVeNT 2D navigation for regular PC work is pretty good too; I got to this page with it.
F-Gen will be much better ;)
thx, tomnovint
Tom, do you think there will ever be a program that allows me to punch people in the face over the internet via the Falcon? I go forward, and theirs goes back, into their face.

How can we check with customs? We don't have anything but the details for USPS.
About the GMod support, surely one of the more dedicated programmers could make an extension for the game. Seeing as we can use .dll to extend the lua libraries, all it would take is someone with the knowledge to take their time creating a library that interfaces with the Falcon drivers.
Does the Falson work on L4D2 or only L4D
Only L4D at this point. Novint needs to work out a seperate deal with Valve to get access to L4D2's source code.

I can aim it rather well, it's just that I'm not known for manual labor or stopping bullets with my chest, so it's pretty much like lifting a very angry, aggressive weight.

I was rather impressed with the textures in the tutorial, though the bumpy stone texture seemed a bit 'stiff.' When touching something like that, you don't feel the bump as an instant change in position, but more of a quick sloped elevation.
I'm not sure if that'll make sense so take it as you will.
My job is actually very physically strenous on my hands and I have many real guns so I 'assume' I will be okay.
The main problem I have is muscle pains in my inner elbow and my shoulder slightly, and the hand cramps to hold on the minigun.

Though with the minigun, you really kinda want to scream "I AM BULLETPROOF" and start laughing like a maniac.
How can we check with customs? We don't have anything but the details for USPS.
You probably have to go to/call a customs office. There might be an added problem as with New York with the pistol grip.
I don't like how N VeNT looks.
I love the idea of this and don't have a problem paying $110~ for it, but the shipping is a massive letdown.
Especially since how everything else takes forever to ship here to Australia. :(
Mine's been just over an hour's drive away from me for FOUR DAYS. It doesn't take FOUR FUCKING DAYS to open a goddamn box, get your shit together customs. :argh:
This thread needs to be renamed "The Novint Falcon Megathread" and have the OP changed a bit.
I'll be ordering mine tomorrow or Friday.
Is this worth it as a Christmas gift?
Just ordered my $1.5k computer to go with my new Novint Falcon.
Sw33ts.
Thank you thread renaming god!
It was supposed to come like fucking 2 hours ago. Rage.
Lazy people down at UPS can't drive an hour to deliver a box.
It's not that, it's probably just an overload of packages because it's the Christmas time of year.

Would you mind posting a picture or something of how the skin fits on the Novint Falcon or one that was already skinned ? The site didn't really give any details.

God damn I so want one of these, but I travel from place to place too much and it'll be a hassle to put in a suitcase and take with me every time :(
Your item cleared customs in AUSTRALIA on December 10, 2009. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.
It's about time I got some sort of update on the package, can't be far off now.
As much as I love the Falcon, playing Penumbra with it is... troublesome. It's really fun with the Falcon because you can feel everything, but unless you hold R a lot of the time, your hand can get stuck on things.
Loving it in FPS though.

How long ago did you order it? I'm in Australia too.
Just getting a sketchy idea on shipping times, hope mine comes in before Christmas ;D

I think I order on November 29th and the United States Postal Service received the package on the 2nd of December, now it's arrived in Australia on the 10th.
I hope you get some new information soon.

Thanks.
Ordered mine only a few days ago, on the 8th.
Judging by your times It's going to be very very close ;D but maybe no cigar.
Eugh, who changed the name? I was going to make a new thread when my Falcon got here and do a proper OP...

If you have a local customs office, call them. Most likely they're going to tell you to shove off though, as it IS, as I've said before, Christmas, and they probably have an influx of packages to check.
I will.
SUCCESS!
I'll take a look when I make the next GMod Patch - at the very least I'll add Lua bindings
