http://www.wuala.com/AndrewPH/pub/scr00011.png/ I'm surprised you guys have so many issues with the game, I can fly straight through star clusters without problems. I also have a rather shitty card (Radeon HD 4550)
This game is amazing. Hands down.
huh
saturn doesn't have any rings on mine
This game has consumed so much of my time.
Oh sweet page king let me do a tabbed image dump. Hold on.

hmmm.... needs spaceships, specifically the Lexx.
I got some more shots.. First few are looking at a Gas Giant and each shot is closer and closer to the atmosphere, another of a different part of the bands, The rest are random. None of these were taken within the Milky Way

This is the dark side of this planet, it was a yellowish planet but the Blueish tint by the illuminated gas giant makes it appear a bit green
Seriously? When I go to the center of the milkyway I see this:
Ohh.. I figured it out. I was at the center (Well, close to it) but I didn't let go of the mouse so the rest of the stars didn't load. Then I saw these huge streams of light that looked like strings and it crashed.

Try setting off motion blur. Game lags alot in the milky way. Also press v for auto contrast, and that may help as well.

Alright I am confused. I set my object to the milky way, then I pressed Shift C or whatever it was to go to the center, but yet I do not see the same thing you saw.. Perhaps the 'center' I went to wasn't the same you went to?
[editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
Also, where do I change the settings? The settings thing is the menu doesnt seem very complex. But I did turn off the blur. I flew around the area around the center and looked for a spot that looked similar to yours, but I was unsuccessful.

Your game takes pictures correctly. Interesting. Let me see if I can get to the same place again and post coordinates or post a system you can travel to.
By the way, I think I've figured something out. Planet names are useless since they aren't loaded up and thus not selectable until you go near its star. So if you want to revisit a planet, mark its star
Also guys wtf is this:

It's a Nebula. Looks kind of like the Orion Nebula
The Nebulas are pretty realistic... Fuzzy, hazy, not very colorful. It's Hubble's photos combined with coloring the types of Gasses that make them look amazing. To the naked eye they're pretty bland
It's a Nebula. Looks kind of like the Orion Nebula
The description did not specify it as a nebula, it had a different word that I can't reacall. Also to save a location, F6 and press Add.
And here is the milky way. I am still looking for the crazy star cluster from my photo:

Object is called a diffuse. I found it again.
[editline]6th April 2011[/editline]
Here are the stars within the diffuse:

That's what I mean. If you're on top of a planet and hit F6, hit Add... You can't go back to it. At least I can't if it's a planet. Only with stars

Best planet EVER to live.
Binary star system, near a globular cluster, with a view of the damn galaxy. Also has a pretty nice day/night. 50% day, 25% dusk, 25% night.
[del]It also seems to be three times as hot as Earth.[/del]
lol, it's like, 880 Degrees Celsius.

Quality post sir.
why does your milky way look different?
For some reason that can't be explained this game looks and runs differently for every single person who has used it thus far. But what can you expect from a game that renders 100 billion stars.
Playing this made me boot up Spore again just to play the space stage.
I wish someone would create a less-childish more-"realistic" version of that in this engine, Too bad it's not open source.
Alright off to bed, but I will leave you all with this:

Out of bandwidth?
I'm kinda wondering now after playing this for a few hours: How much of this is actually real. Like, is stuff taken from data from NASA or some shit, and implemented into this 'game'?
[editline]7th April 2011[/editline]
I know some close-by stars might be mapped out, but...
I think that if you change the settings so that you only see catalogued stuff, you will see only things that have been found and mapped.
I am eagerly awaiting the day they add super-massive black holes in the center of the galaxies. That is going to be great.
Also, I love this simulator for its capacity to show how small we are. It is often hard to show that. I remember trying EVE five-six years back. Was approaching a station going warp-speed or whatever, this planet came rushing at me. Then it stopped growing, so it seemed I was slowing down. But then you could see this tiny construction growing larger and larger really fast, while the planet seemingly didn't move at all. It took a few seconds for my mind to comprehend that the planet was so large it didn't seem to get closer. This game does that beautifully. I know a lot of people are scared of that fact, that we are tiny and insignificant. But I love that. I love that there is a vast universe out there. And with this simulator, I might show others how it is to think about it like that.
My planets still look like crap though. I think I'll download the ready-patched version you link to here, see how it works.

Imagine if EVE actually used something like this.
Warping/traveling to other galaxy :allears:
Oh wow this just makes me want Infinity even more :(
How come whenever I pick out a random star, go to it, use the star system browser thing to see its planets, go to one of them, they just aren't there.
If you zoom out and look at the Milky Way from the right distance, it puts a nice texture over it, I hit it once and couldn't get it back again
Are there any game-games using this engine?

Infinity is better than this
