Oh my god
Binary star system
14 planets
2 of which are warm Terras with life
1 ringed comfort Terra, the moon of which is a comfort Terra with life
WHAT, SON
That's mindblowing, imagine three different civilizations springing up in the same planetary system.
i've never found a planet with life :smith:

Same :(
:O
Spoke too soon!

For anyone who haven't heard of the game Infinity being developed:
Has procedural generation too, but is a lot more detailed.

And it's coming out only in quite a few years. 3 if we're lucky
After being in development for about 5.

Infinity makes Space Engine's Procedural Generation look like garbage.
But then again, Space Engine is out and available to play with

Except that has a 10% chance of coming out in our lifetimes, while this is already available to play with, and very moddable it seems.

True, and not to discredit his work, but it's been a very long time.

Goddamn, I swear this game is the most beautiful simulator I've ever seen.
I still haven't run into any life-bearing planets, but I've found so many great-looking terras.
This is my favorite picture.
Also, I'm not sure if it's procedural or catalog'd, but the Barnard's Star systems are fantastic for pictures.
This game is amazing... too bad I have a phobia of space and it gives me anxiety if I try and play it :sigh:

Also the dude at Infinity is now contemplating selling the engine, and working with a team. Which will extend the production by at least another 5 years. Fuck Infinity, the guy making Space Engine obviously knows how to please the people, and he is already talking about making a game.
When Infinity comes out I am sure it will be amazing, but it is not available yet so it doesn't count.

Yeah.
Also damn this game is a good wallpaper generator. Just find a terra planet in a multi-star system and there ya go. :v:

Space phobia?

i like this program
All my planets looks like explodey and make me sad that i can't explore :(
i also made a short video that doesn't have depressing piano music

and some more pictures

So is it actually possible to go to the center of the galaxy with this, or is it a software related thing and not our computers simply being too weak to do it?
So is it actually possible to go to the center of the galaxy with this, or is it a software related thing and not our computers simply being too weak to do it?
It's entirely possible.
Does anyone know how to make a script to take the 6 screenshots needed to make a skybox? I wanna makes a GMod map with these kinds of giant celestial objects visible in the sky.
Problems thus far:
1 - When I press "G" to go to an object I've selected (mostly small ones like planets), it tends to completely "miss" it and just go somewhere else where there is nothing.
2 - Random crashes when close to planets and such.
[editline]14th April 2011[/editline]
Why the fuck does it crash all the time? This is the most unstable thing I've ever seen
[editline]14th April 2011[/editline]
Crashes every 20 seconds
fuck this
make sure you select the planet correctly
in case of binary stars and systems or even earth and moon there is gravitation point you can select too
sometimes there is placeholder (i assume it's nebula or gas cloud or something it can be selected but nothing is anywhere written in the selection box)
some random crashes i already explained, try set these to true (or false depends on experimenting) in main.cfg
r_BugClipping false // distant galaxies clipping
r_BugCraters true // procedural craters bug on ATI
r_BugMipmaps true // mipmap generation bug on ATI
also ensure You don't increased some values too much
e.g. r_VideoMemory 950
instead of 1023/1024 proved for me as stabilizing factor on 1GB VRAM
if you have enough freespace and memory increase the cache values there (even N times e.g)
r_gal_ModelCacheSize 300 // galaxy models cache size
r_gal_SysModelCacheSize 300 // galaxy subsystem cache size
r_cl_StarModelCacheSize 900 // star cluster subsystem cache size
in case of stars clusters or galaxy centers ensure You dont move too fast otherwise the I/O spikes and it fails to read/write and crash
For me enabling r_BugCraters true makes the planets stop producing craters so they are all smooth. Disabling allows craters but sometimes it lags whilst creating them.
My graphics drivers seem to crash as soon as i do a slightly fast movement anyone else experianced this?
If you move around quickly near large clusters of stars it usually lags, but sometimes crashes.
God dammit, why does it always miss by a couple of million kilometers when I press "G" to go to a planet?
[editline]15th April 2011[/editline]
It's pissing me off
This program looks like instant wallpapers.
