It's the Canary Islands!
No wait, VY Canis Majoris is 18.288AU in diameter.

no, 8.4–9.8 AU or 1.7 billion miles in diameter.
[editline]16th April 2011[/editline]
and apparently the game doesn't make it this big. it is HD 58061 but the star in space engine is only 0.9 AU.
[editline]16th April 2011[/editline]
oh and that little star next to it is 2x as big as the sun in that game/engine/thing.

You were right the first time
VY Cma isn't supposed to be a Binary but a single star system.

But wait a minute, im confused. 1.7 billion miles = 18.288AU
it would reach Saturns orbit if it was our sun, 9 AU.
[editline]16th April 2011[/editline]
speaking about saturn, it crashes my space engine.

9 AU is the radius while 1.7 billion miles is the diameter. Read it again carefully. It's written in a confusing way.
There are no black holes that i've found, but there are defiantly neutron starts, i found one with an rotational period of 36 seconds.
Search PSR B1620-26 for one!
oh You misunderstood me, there are both Neutron Stars and Black Holes in engine already
"Q" class is Neutron
"X" class is Black Hole
but these are just placeholders,
as they look exactly same as normal stars and even get populated with planets and theirs orbiters ...
---
and this is not my only problem ...
i'm trying to get engine to make more 3 to 6-star systems but for some reasons it fails
the engine seems to include support for 3 and 4 for sure and more maybe too ...
speaking of which anyone really seen trinary star system yet ? (not 2 stars and baycenter)
Black holes are invisible. Therefore you cannot find them. Just imagine them.
9 AU is the radius while 1.7 billion miles is the diameter. Read it again carefully. It's written in a confusing way.
So its diameter is ~18AU?
Oh damn it makes sense now. What a huge star.

They're not invisible
They should look like this:

Is the filesmelt link the main or main + updated file?
This is awesome

He should add randomly placed (low-probability) "strange" stellar objects and engineering constructs.
An answer to my question would be appreciated
Main + Updated.
Main + Updated.
Thank you very much
I just did some "comprehensive" testing and I've come to a conclusion.
With 4GB RAM, a Phenom II X4 (Black edition) at 3.2ghz and a PowerColour 5870, the closest you can get to the center of the milky way is 728 parsecs, no matter what speed you move at.
There must be something wrong with my game then, I can fly through the center of the galaxy just fine, and my computer is shit.
Uhm, I have a fps on 0.5 and nothing will render. Have a 9800GT if anyone wonders.
EDIT: I can see some stuff with HDR off but with HDR on nothing + the fps sucks and it takes forever for stuff to load.
Gonna try this on my laptop now, wish me luck.

A new file was added to the official site a week or two back
http://spaceengine.org/load/predrasschitannye_modeli_atmosfer/1-1-0-5
Not sure what it is.
google gives me this as a translation
Predrasschitannye model atmospheres for SpaceEngine 0.84 and 0.90. Unpack the archive into a folder of the program, when asked about overwriting files, answer "Yes". Atmosphere models (*. atm) should be in the folder \ cache \ models \ atmospheres.
Something to do with Atmospheres, if we can figure out what "Predrasschitannye" means, maybe it will help.
Now if only someone made a SpaceBuild version of this. :s
Heh, even if you had a 128 Million slot server, it would still seem empty and dead
Just letting anyone else who constantly crashed + couldn't get the game to run at all that downloading the updated version from the website worked for me, before I wasn't able to zoom around for more than 2 minutes at the most, and I couldn't visit any planet surfaces, now it all works.

Just for clarity, you only need to download what's at the download link.

Thanks alot for the info. Works for me too now!
I love it when I go halfway across the galaxy. It's essentially hyperspace, but it crashes.

Sounds like someone forgot their Infinite Improbability drive!
