Yeah, Betelgeuse looks like that too.
Land on it. Post results.
'nother picture. Near a globular cluster close to the center of the Milky Way. [editline]28th April 2011[/editline] Would have looked nicer if I turned AA on, but my computer would have exploded if I did.

Planet surfaces look sexy as fuck after that recent patch:
Daaaaaayuuuuuuuum. Definitely downloading update now.
I think certain stars are supposed to look like that.
Sure, if by certain you mean all of them :/ I re-installed (well, re-extracted) and don't have this problem anymore
I wonder if i can get a joystick to work on airplane/spacecraft mode?
I wonder if i can get a joystick to work on airplane/spacecraft mode?
Easy, I got a joystick to work for just cause 2 using similar principles using glovePie, it has a wizard for mapping buttons/controls/etc etc to other devices so you don't have to do the actual programming. I imagine you'd map the actual joystick movement of up and down to the mouse Y axis and the joystick x axis to the q and e keys(for rotation), then just map your thrust, whatever you want as that to W and S for break etc
Well it seems to me like the out of memory crash is because when you're looking at any part of a planet close up, it keeps generating terrain data for a lot of places it doesn't need to (it should just generate it for the place you are looking at the moment), it also seems instead of deleting said data once you zoom out, it keeps being stored, which leads to the out of memory error.
Should I get the Precomputed Atmospheres?
Should I get the Precomputed Atmospheres?
May I ask what you're making reference too? Edit: NVM found them, i'm gonna try em out to see if they make any difference
I somehow managed to break my space engine and all the procedural generation of the surface of stars, planets etc is overscaled, here's a star for example:
That's a Marshmallow Star Pretty rare but it's a known phenomenon :science:
That's a Marshmallow Star Pretty rare but it's a known phenomenon :science:
As I mentioned, all my stars looked like this and all my planets were coming out blotchy looking due to what I assume was a scale glitch..... Every single star I visited had this appearance, not just a rare amount
how do you get on planet surface?
Reduce speed and move towards it at an angle? Or click on the planet and press Shift+G Oh, found a Comfort Terra with Rings :D [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9133125/SE/scr00000.jpg[/img_thumb]

I mean, I wouldn't mind, but it's a pretty bad texture in the first place. *still waiting for Infinity* *sigh* (yeah, I know that picture is impossible in reality, but still :P)
By the way, there is no such thing as a marshmallow star, I was just talking out of my ass again
Fuck, planets take ages to generate surfaces now...Asteroids were bad before but this is also just as bad with the new version.
Fuck, planets take ages to generate surfaces now...Asteroids were bad before but this is also just as bad with the new version.
Yeah, the default planet you start at with 0.93 takes like 30 minutes for me to render
This looks awesome and also: ... SpaAAAAAAAAACE
*still waiting for Infinity* *sigh* (yeah, I know that picture is impossible in reality, but still :P)
I feel you. :smith: Why must all the amazing innovative indie games be vaporware?
I feel you. :smith: Why must all the amazing innovative indie games be vaporware?
Because they're usually too ambitious. :smith:
They're still developing it you tools
I want a pessimistic rating.
Guess I'll have to use 0.90 until the rendering issue is fixed, or I get a new computer
i wish the mipmap generation works on AMD (ATI) cards ... i want detailed surface !!!! argh
I am so amazed by this that I'm starting to question its existence. I must be hallucinating.
well there is also Universe Sandbox for 10 bucks at STEAM http://store.steampowered.com/app/72200/ some features are interesting ...
well there is also Universe Sandbox for 10 bucks at STEAM http://store.steampowered.com/app/72200/ some features are interesting ...
It's scale is nowhere close to SE's, and it's not free. Free matters. :v: Updated the OP a little bit.
i know i say there is always alternative which has some features the others dont we all for sure know opensource Celestia 3D http://www.shatters.net/celestia/ Stellarium http://www.stellarium.org/ Star Strider http://www.starstrider.com/ Colliding Galaxies http://www.colliding-galaxies.com/Site/e-down.html (has great physics to be fair) and many others i forgot to mention (ofcourse everyone knows the I-Novae powered Infinity:QuestForEarth) there is no universal which has all
Obviously, we need someone on here who can read Russian to mine the RU forums to see if the dev has plans on adding official mod support, so we can add things ourselves. Custom systems and objects, etc. I heard that the developer has plans for a game on this engine. Hopefully that won't turn into vaporware like Infinity.
some of us are in touch with him over email, he seems great guy ... he also seems to plan release this on sourceforge (according to Celestia authors)
