I like to fly into the centers of the clusters near the Milky Way and then proceed to crash from running out of memory
I like to fly into the centers of the clusters near the Milky Way and then proceed to crash from running out of memory
That happened to me before the new version.
I get this error all the time on my Desktop computer:

I don't get this error on my laptop though.
My desktop is superior in every way, and they both run Win7 64 bit.
The answer may be "Well, we have faster computers than you". But I'm not completely sure what you mean.
I don't have a terrible computer, but it's just it takes around 3 minutes for textures to generate when you're only a few tens of thousands of km from the planet.
Why is it that my FPS drops to .98 every time I click on a body, but then runs at 60 when I'm flying towards it at breakneck speeds?

Have you tried turning down the texture settings. I have mine set on 1 and it takes about 30 seconds to texture most planets and it still looks quite detailed.

Which texture settings? You're not giving me alot to go on here.
Seriously. I can't use this program because I lag to hell when ever I'm too close to a bloody planet. It worked perfectly fine in 0.9 where texture generation seemed to not take long for planets. Now it's really messed up.

Turn down planet LOD to -3.
Get there with Ctrl-F4
It seems I managed to solve the crashes, just followed the 0.94 troubleshooting on the SpaceEngine forums, apparently my PC is too good for it so I had to lower the memory usage to 25% :v:
Did this thread just suddenly die of exhaustion? This shit is great, and if someone doesnt keep up the hype it will die down like most random russian gems do..
It will neva diee!!!
Well I increased the LOD to 6 on everything in the cfg (7 and higher fucks up the planets, etc), I also increased the mipmap generation up to 0.001 on everything, the detail is fucking incredible and renders smoothly :v:
Examples:

How do you do that? Which cfg do you open?
main.cfg
Under //planets settings change the following lines to what I've got here:
PlanetSphereMeshLOD 6 // spherical meshes detail
PlanetCubeMeshLOD 6 // landscape meshes detail
PlanetDetailCraters 0.0001 // approx. min radius of craters on terrestrial (rock) planets (kilometers)
PlanetDetailTerra 0.0001 // approx. per vertex detail on terrestrial (rock) planets (kilometers)
PlanetDetailGasGiant 0.0001 // approx. per vertex detail on gas giant planets (kilometers)
PlanetDetailSun 0.0001 // approx. per vertex detail on stars surface (kilometers)
Goddamn, I am addicted to SpaceEngine.
Some desert planet:

This was either an asteroid or an ice moon:

I thought the light from the stars hitting each other looked really cool:

Kind of reminds me of that Infinity game that is taking infinity to be released. :saddowns:
Those settings don't render smoothly at all... Get close to the surface and the game just locks up with loading very slowly

It's fine for me, but I did just get a new pc.

Same problem since the last update. Get the previous build.
Do you have ATI HD5XXX series card?
Indeed I do, a 5750. Is there a link to 0.93 anywhere?
[editline]27th June 2011[/editline]
Found a link, nevermind that
http://applesforgeeks.com/space-engine-version-93-released/
The Main.cfg also doesn't have the same settings as posted above either, shame, since the screenshots look so good
Planet surfaces load pretty much instantly for me, but I constantly crash :<
[editline]14th July 2011[/editline]
Nevermind, 0.94 fixed it.
Also, holy shit they actually made betelguese look like a meatball

anyone found any pulsars/Quasars?
anyone found any pulsars/Quasars?
I haven't, but I'd love to find one.
Does anyone know if they exist in the game yet?
Some planets I found, one of them is a WARM Terra with life
The first one was taken in the Triangulum Galaxy, you can see the Andromeda Galaxy above, and the Milky Way below right, its small.
