Let's check what happens if I rewind time 3x10^9 years.
Currently 4 million in.
Jeeezus, even with a 570, i5-2500k, and 8GB of RAM this can still come screeching to a halt.
So pretty though :quagmire:
That must mess with the orbits of each other as well. I'd like to see one of those planets get pulled away and shot into space!
Can't help but imagine it like this

only with a gas giant. That'd really ruin their day.
-snip, whoa wrong game all together-
Anyone know of any good mods for this?
After getting a 580GTX I can finally run it without all the issues! :D
First post here.
Just wanted to say that the developer has started working on procedural galaxies.
Some pictures:

Looking very promising.
Very Cool
there is also dev entry about new mapmode

it looks very promising (dozen of screenshots of various zoom levels)

I really really hope this guy does not stop developing this.
City building, kilometer-long spaceships that can build other spaceships, it all sounds too good to be true.
So I found a few ways to get this to run better.
Make a shortcut and at the end of it put +fullproc
Like this SpaceEngine+0.95\SpaceEngine.exe +fullproc
Just with that I was able to bump the quality up higher but also you can do one more little trick I read on the space engine forums.
In SpaceEngine+0.95\config open the main file and change
VideoMemorySize 256, 512, 1024, etc
VideoMemoryMaxPercent usually at 90
VideoMemoryStartupDetect TRUE
VideoMemoryDynamicDetect TRUE
Change the bottom ones to false, then raise the VideoMemorySize to a higher number if you have more RAM. This boosts perf quite a bit, apparently it uses system RAM. Also for a bit more change VideoMemoryMaxPercent to 95.
1280x720 because I usually do other things with space engine open. Running at 45 to 60fps with LOD2 and all settings on highest
bit of jpeg rape sadly

Do you guys actually get to ground level?

Occasionally, I usually land on a planet or moon of interest. But I usually find it more interesting to just locate planets and view them from space.
Like this

Asteroid orbiting a Terra world with a Terra with Life moon.
Or finding interesting planetary orbits like this

Why is it that Russians always make the good free software and American 'game' devs always just seem to beg you for your wallets for miniscule products. :(

This program feels so underrated, you literally have an entire universe to explore. Like when you first leave the milky way to go further, you find the most obscene and colorful galaxies ever, and then you start wondering where the fuck you really are.
I also like how you can get a view of all the planets at one star.
I still haven't found a Terra with life on my own though :(
I love how the game specifies ice worlds being "cold" and "frozen". It makes me hope one day I'll find one that's somehow hot.
I decided to see what Space Engineer did with those planets in Space Engine. Since its still in the works most of the worlds lack any of the neat effects mentioned in the article. The closest one to those descriptions is PSR1257+12 b
In fact the whole system looks pretty nice

Too bad the star doesn't flash like a disco ball, that would be pretty rad. I wish imgur didn't mess up the jpeg quality.
Edit:
If you have the time, bandwidth, and hard drive space, I highly recommend torrenting these texture files

The canyons looks pretty crappy by default, you guys might want to check out this mod:

Fuck, My brain.
Also, WIN
http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/21-514-1
I asked for that sometime last year, I don't remember the response.
Guys, what have I missed since version 0.95?

I'm dumb, can you explain to me what this is?
Guys, what have I missed since version 0.95?
there is only 0.95.1 hotfix (some crashfixing)
everything else are now just development updates

Whoa, whoa, whoa, what?
You can export planetary details as heightmaps?
How.

How do you have your planets looking so good? Mine look like flat pieces of textures right now and I'm pretty damn close to the surface.

Totally coming into this thread unprepared, but I'm gathering this game will (if not is) be everything the game Infinity: The Quest For Earth was supposed to be before becoming vaporware?

Just to be clear, Infinity is not vaporware. It's still under development, one of the developers is still talking actively about it on his twitter.
