The moment when any space traveler gives up all hope.

My ships just don't work at all :(, when I selected them they don't show up, it's just like moving around like normal :(

I can't help but think of that song when I think a black hole, heh.

You need to 'Switch to' them.
I do, but theres no model there, it just moves to a different part of the universe.

Go to a planet or something, press Ctrl + F3, select ship, click "Teleport to here", click "switch to".

Thank you! this worked :)
Can someone help me, i'm probably just a gigantic dumbass but no matter HOW far i go, i find nothing but stars (and the stars end at one point too), and i can't see the Earth's surface, the camera just goes through the model.
Anyone got any tips for getting a stable orbit. I've managed to use the universe map to sort of get an orbit, but the gravity is still pulling me in at 0.01m/s so eventually I crash into the planet.
New patch 0.9.6.1 is out

Damn I want to play this so bad, but every time I do I get some shitty fear reaction and start shaking and have to look away. I like space stuff a lot but cant play any space games like this argh

In any case I crash whenever I run along the surface of a planet for more than 5 seconds
The ships are quite cool, it's a shame the phyisics spaz out if your increase time or hyperfactor near a star.
I hope next update will fix a lot of crash issues. It's so annoying

If you avoid using hyperdrive near large bodies and just use the regular acceleration you won't run into those issues.

Grab the program called Large Address Aware and then browse to the Space Engine exe and apply it.

After that go to the main.cfg file and change the video memory section to something like this
// memory settings
VideoMemorySize 2048 // video card onboard memory (VRAM) in megabytes
VideoMemoryMaxPercent 90 // max VRAM consumption (percents)
VideoMemoryStartupDetect false // use auto detection of VRAM size on startup, otherwise use VideoMemorySize value
VideoMemoryDynamicDetect false // use auto detection of available amount of VRAM in runtime
GalaxySysModelCacheSize 5 // do not change this!
ClusterStarModelCacheSize 200 // do not change this!
If you are on Nvidia it will run much smoother and crash far less often, if you are on ATI it will run smoother and crash less often but near planets with a designated texture or bump set(like Earth/Mars/Moon/etc) will stutter a bit. Stutters are still better than crashing.
Forgot to say don't do this if you have a weak system and under 4GBs of RAM or a weak GPU, it won't end well.

I know, I was trying to see if i could get an orbit and don't really want to wait a few days to see if it can complete it.
Found a Terra with life and did a flyby.

whoa, I can do fast speeds on planet surfaces without crashing now
I liked the lighting in this one
Flew through some random nebula and passed through a binary system with a red dwarf and an orange dwarf.

Not any more than before. Aka very little to none.
Quickly popped up this video of an eclipse from a moon. The new lighting effects makes it look amazing as the darkness sweeps across the planet.

How are pepole using costum ships ect ect.

What happens if you fly in?
What happens if you fly in?
You can't fly into a black hole. Once you get within range it sucks your ship towards it then throws you a long distance away. That image is really just trickery with time. I flew the ship to a black hole and then paused time while it was being pulled in.

So landing on the sun in an alliance cruiser is apparently NOT covered by the warranty.

The ship pack was posted last page.
After using Large Address Aware I was able to increase the detail of the planets considerably and still have it running smoothly with no crashes :D

Does it throw you in a consistent direction?
Wormholes ahoy?

Nah it just shoots you off in the same system a few thousand kilometers away. Longest distance I've seen is around 2 AU.
Planet RS 0-0-0-457-11133-7-280312-26 A1
It's a hot desert where one side of it is always facing its star, so the other side is completely frozen (the only light it gets is from the other star since it's a binary system, but only for very short periods)
Have some screenshots:

how do you guys get the game looking so good? Mine takes a year to load planets and looks like ass when it does
This looks really cool!

Not sure if everyone does this, but when you see or do something that you want to screencap, pause time and set your surface LOD to 2, take the screenshot and set the LOD back to whatever it runs good on.
Or spend your dosh on a damn good computer.

So it's a short-range omni-directional gravity slingshot?
[sp]See, if you put a bunch of long and relevant words together, you make the thing sound cooler than it already is![/sp]
