Press ctrl-F4 in game and up the LOD to 2 for the best graphics. For ships press ctrl-F3 select a ship and teleport here then switch to it. As for panorama's I don't know I'd like to do this too :D
If any of you think black holes look kind of shitty up close, edit your main.cfg files and change TRBlackHoleResolution to 16384 or 8192. Could also experiment with some other settings but you may screw up your game so create a backup.
Edit: Bumping up PlanetDetailTerra adds a lot of extra detail.

I found these awesome images of edited planet shader files. Sadly, the method to do this on 0.96 is not yet known.

Didn't some of those edited shader files make some planets mess up though?
Didn't some of those edited shader files make some planets mess up though?
Yeah, I think it caused some planets to become all spiky.
Holy crap, there's been so much changes since I played this last time.
Fuuuck, the site is down..
To really increase the detail on the planets changing the LOD is not enough, you have to go into the main.cfg file and edit these lines so they look like this:
VideoMemorySize 1535 (this depends on the amount of video ram you have, in this case for my GTX 460M)
VideoMemoryMaxPercent 95 (this is the percentage of the max amount of video ram you want to allow Space Engine to use)
VideoMemoryStartupDetect false
PlanetSphereMeshLOD 6
PlanetCubeMeshLOD 7
PlanetRingsSubdiv 16
PlanetDetailCraters 0.0001
PlanetDetailTerra 0.0001
PlanetDetailClouds 0.0001
PlanetDetailGasGiant 1.0
PlanetDetailSun 1.0
PlanetDetailTexScale 65536
These really increase the detail on the planets, don't try to change them any higher though or it will look bad, I also recommend using Large Address Aware to increase the amount of RAM the program/game can use, otherwise you'll most likely crash but I haven't crashed a single time since I did it.
Also if you want to take something screenshot worthy I recommend you fly around with LOD -2 and change it to 2 before taking the screenshot, it will take a few minutes to achieve maximum quality but it will look pretty as hell.

I finally got this thing to work properly, really awesome.
Check out this asteroid i found.

Somebody please make working Mass Relays.
Would be so awesome.
So has there been any way to fix the annoying ship dissapearing? Its annoying enough to try and control the damn ship, only for it to be fustratingly destroy in the universe :v if people can't go that fast without the ship dissapearing, how the hell is everyone actually exploring space? It'd take too long going any slower.

That could only be done on Space Engineer's end and he has no plans for such things.

Different rendering is done inside a system and outside a star system. Currently spaceships are not rendered outside a star system, it has nothing to do with going fast.

Are you sure? Because whenever I go back to a star and teleport the ship back its still invisible

Thats what Space Engineer said, the spaceships are not finished yet. As for it remaining invisible that sounds like a memory issue. Ships render last compared to everything else and if you run out of memory the ship won't render.
My best one so far, you like?

Found a scorched desert world orbiting a blue star. I noticed its dark side was getting lit up by something and I thought "this system has two stars?" and then I realized that it's light getting reflected from its binary planet.

The lighting system in this game is pretty fucking awesome. And it runs so smoothly too.

Why do some stars in this game look like popcorn?
Why do some stars in this game look like popcorn?
Because giant stars are actually shaped like one massive fireball.
You can see it demonstrated here.
It would be nice to have them animated in Space Engine as well.

Considering the texture is rendered using a shader, it's quite possible to change the shader to make the texture move around the planet at a certain speed, I might have a look at that later.

Oh so they're supposed to look like that.
Always thought it was a shader fuck up.

the procedural galaxy feature is awesome, I made a couple captures that I thought looked nice.

Anyone know how to get rid of those evil, nasty, horrible skybox lines?

I'm finding it hard to describe this image accurately.
[editline]9th July 2012[/editline]
An interesting fact I've found; many of the stars in the galaxy and nearby galaxies can be searched up by their HIP names on google, which will come up with a Wolfram|Alpha link, where you can then search for HD names for info and to see if the stars are real or not.
Dammit, I was working on adding a ship but now suddenly Space Engine won't render any ships no matter what I do.
