VY Canis Majoris is a fun one, though I'm not sure it's displayed correctly in space engine. [editline]10th July 2012[/editline] Also, where do saved cubemaps/panoramas get saved? I thought it'd be under the screenshot folder (that'd make sense...) but they aren't there.
Cache folder [editline]10th July 2012[/editline]
Does someone who posts beautiful screenshots here care to share their exact settings? Because I followed all of the posts before now and all my planets are still blurry and look like shit, and my screenshots are really pixelated...
I posted the exact settings for that, if they still look like shit then something else is wrong. [editline]10th July 2012[/editline] On Space Engine 0.94 I once found 3 colliding galaxies, been looking for something like that ever since :v:
To really increase the detail on the planets changing the LOD is not enough, you have to go into the main.cfg file and edit these lines so they look like this: VideoMemorySize 1535 (this depends on the amount of video ram you have, in this case for my GTX 460M) VideoMemoryMaxPercent 95 (this is the percentage of the max amount of video ram you want to allow Space Engine to use) VideoMemoryStartupDetect false PlanetSphereMeshLOD 6 PlanetCubeMeshLOD 7 PlanetRingsSubdiv 16 PlanetDetailCraters 0.0001 PlanetDetailTerra 0.0001 PlanetDetailClouds 0.0001 PlanetDetailGasGiant 1.0 PlanetDetailSun 1.0 PlanetDetailTexScale 65536 These really increase the detail on the planets, don't try to change them any higher though or it will look bad, I also recommend using Large Address Aware to increase the amount of RAM the program/game can use, otherwise you'll most likely crash but I haven't crashed a single time since I did it. Also if you want to take something screenshot worthy I recommend you fly around with LOD -2 and change it to 2 before taking the screenshot, it will take a few minutes to achieve maximum quality but it will look pretty as hell.
I tried your settings and..well.. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8664592/ShareX/2012-07/2012-07-10_16-21-34.jpg[/t] Doesn't seem to work very well..

[img_thumb]http://www.niggaupload.com/images/SgYzP.png[/img_thumb] Trying my hand at another panorama. Anyone have specific tips? So far what I've been doing is using export cubemap function, twice, occasionally three times at different rotations, then letting photoshop stitch them up together, then crop away the excess/fill in easily fillable areas, such as the sky, with content aware, scaling it down (I do 3800x3800 cubemaps to 'fake' anti-aliasing, can't seem to be able to get it higher on my laptop, or else I'd preferably be doing 8192x8192,) and then saving and uploading.
Strange, works fine here: [img_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/44918480/SpaceEngine/scr00140.jpg[/img_thumb]
I was reading the thread with the fancy planet shaders, and SpaceEngineer said this:

PlanetSphereMeshLOD 6 // spherical meshes detail PlanetCubeMeshLOD 6 // landscape meshes detail
Change it back to 5! This is a maximum value! You will have random glitches and crashes at surface. I shall remove this setting from config.
Considering you have yours set to this:
PlanetSphereMeshLOD 6 PlanetCubeMeshLOD 7
That's probably the issue.
Does the "fast texture loading" option make the quality lower?
sitting on the surfaces of pulsars is fun [editline]10th July 2012[/editline]
I was reading the thread with the fancy planet shaders, and SpaceEngineer said this: Considering you have yours set to this: That's probably the issue.
Its not that, I tried setting it back to 5 and I still get cubified terrain.. [editline]10th July 2012[/editline] Bumping PlanetDetailTerra up to 0.0001 seems to be fucking it up. Hrm.
It depends on the planet, if you hate the cubified terrain use 0.005.
It's happened in every planet I've gone to.. [editline]10th July 2012[/editline] Setting it to 0.005 makes the terrain ugly as fuck. What the hell is going on.

I don't know. Also, if you guys can't stand the physics/object motion update rate right now (50 times a second), change PhysicsTick to 0.0075

Looks like I'm getting it too.
For some reason I don't get that even with all the settings maxed out like I said, I tried several planets, don't know why it's happening for everyone else.
Try the planet RS 0-8-11084967-1092-42-7-1704288-72 A4
You're on 0.96 right? What video card are you using?
The cube-effect happened to me on every version since 0.93, so it can't be the version number.
Wait, I'm still confused whether an LOD of 2 or -2 is better visually.
Wait, I'm still confused whether an LOD of 2 or -2 is better visually.
It used to be that -2 was best, but it got switched to +2 being best.
The cube-effect happened to me on every version since 0.93, so it can't be the version number.
Might be some kind of video card thing? I have an ATI card, and I know that SpaceEngine has a history of issues with ATI cards..
Might be some kind of video card thing? Selenas and the like are perfectly fine and look amazing. I'm gonna mess with the terra height generation to see what's up. Edit: Yeah, I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't think that's it, because I'm using an nvidia 9800 GTX+.
Oh well, the landscapes are still pretty...though they could be prettier... [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/PANORAMAAAAAAAAAA.png[/thumb] Just a panorama I made. Also, check out this cool effect: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00012.jpg[/thumb] Those aren't rings, they're ring shadows.

Boy, I wish space engine had those.
yay I got it working! :D Vertigo 1, you are cleared to proceed to Zeta Aquilae. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8664592/scr00003.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8664592/scr00004.jpg[/t] (If anyone knows what game this is from, they get a cookie!)
For a moment there, I thought that was a planet with lava on the surface. Boy, I wish space engine had those.
I think lava is planned for selenas. Right now there's only dried lava, but look at this: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/dafuqSE.png[/thumb] Edit: Turns out that controls dried lava's height. I wonder if we could change the textures to resemble lava more?
-snip- wasn't sure what you were 'the fuck'ing about

The most we'll get for now is red water :v: Also I don't think its properly implemented yet so I doubt it will work.
Hey guys, which of the following looks best? 32768 (Vanilla): [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/32768.jpg[/thumb] 8192: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/8192.jpg[/thumb] 4096: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/4096.jpg[/thumb] 2048: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/2048.jpg[/thumb]
