You're only supposed to overwrite when you're installing a patch, not when it's a new version.
So guys, Mars and the Moon are actually pretty damn big. :v: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00080.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00081.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00082.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00079.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00083.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00084.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00085%20%282%29.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00086%20%282%29.png[/thumb]
I just ran this program for the first time and almost had a heart attack. My game started off right next to this huge red planet. I began to plink away at my keyboard trying to figure out what each key did. After a few minutes of figuring out how the ship rolls and using the mouse to look around, I decided it would be a good idea to slowly drift my ship towards the looming planet in front of me. My mouse wheel slowly began scrolling forward as I attempted to nudge my ship forward. The ship wasn't moving. I began to grow impatient and scrolled my mouse wheel further and further, inching my face closer and closer to the screen, resulting in... nothing. Then it happened. I pushed "W". My ship rocketed past the red planet. I stumbled back into my chair and swear I could feel the g-forces tearing my flesh off and pulverizing my bones. My eyes widened and my jaw lowered. It was simply too beautiful for words, but this nirvana could not last forever. I had hit deep black empty space. A sense of loneliness and depression hit me. I became scared. Where was I? What happened to all the vast galaxies and bright stars that went screaming past me? Suddenly this game became scarier than Amnesia. Anyways I digress. Does anyone know how to view the outside of your ship? I swear I saw someone post a screenshot showcasing a third person view.

I just don't see the potential for these mind-boggling HORY SHET moments you guy seem to have gone through. Especially this guy:
I've always read a lot about space related stuff and watched a lot of docummentaries so the whole wow we're nothing compared to the grand scale of the universe didn't really hit me hard since I've slowly taken it in over the years but I can see how someone can be caught off guard when they first realise it. Although, this guy was pretty funny, if he was in tears seeing the old "known universe" thing I wonder about his reaction to the 0.96 universe with all the procedural galaxies.

This guy on the modding forums made a nice remake of the S0 galaxy type/ Sombrero Galaxy. Dang it this happened again [thumb]http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/6688/scr00004r.jpg[/thumb] Click on the image and look in the top left corner where is text is to see what I am talking about.
Press Shift-G. Or just end process and restart Space Engine.
I know this has happened before. I think I closed it while is was loading because it was taking awhile to load and when I opened it back up it was like this. I just press G twice and it takes me there quickly.
I found this moon that's a cool or cold terra with life orbiting a gas giant, it has purple terrain :v:. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5182016/scr00005.jpg[/t] And a blue desert planet. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5182016/scr00008.jpg[/t]

How do you land on planets? I just started this.
You can't, the physics engine will just keep the ship from touching the ground and generally causing bad behaviour. I think it's in spaceengineer's to-do list though.
How do you land on planets? I just started this.
On the bottom left corner there is a menu that will pop up, one of the options is to "land", although it has caused my program to crash a few times. edit: Oh you mean your spaceship? I don't think you can land that.
Man, what I would give to have a water shader like in Outerra for SpaceEngine. They're both OpenGL engines, so maybe it'll be possible with Space Engine. Tried making an example in photoshop. [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/SpaceEngine1.png[/thumb]

have some filler material [editline]29th July 2012[/editline] have some good looking gas giants while we're at it. (thumbed because of page stretchers) [img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/qUVUpb.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/hjBlUo.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/6zjKpF.jpg[/img_thumb]
Was going around the Milky Way, found a cool planet: [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00096.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/DATPAN.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00097.png[/thumb] Obviously it's not very interesting. I decided to move on to another system, as I look across my screen for a random star to click on. I thought sarcastically "Heh, the first thing I click on totally will have life" as I often spend a long span of time trying to find places with life. I clicked. What the fuck, it has one planet with life. So I go to it and..gentlemen...I believe I have found one of the best looking and most well varied planet with life in the universe. [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/Gentlemun.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00098.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/TERRARAMA.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00099.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00100.png[/thumb] A 30mb map I made of the planet: I'm saving your bandwidth. Pretty badass how it has defined climate zones
So I dunno how many of these already been posted yet, but I find these tracks to be awesome when cruising through space. So anyway, lemme tell you guys about this here binary star system. Checking out the first one, turns out there's a warm terra with rings. Here's a view from its mountainous moon:

Oh yeah, did I mention this star system is nearly outside the galaxy? Hence dat view. Another image of the same planet:

Not much else orbiting that star, so I go to the second one. Not much to look at and holy shit is that a terra orbiting a terra?

The one on the left is the "moon". Jesus this star system has three terras, two of them orbiting each other! This would be a gold mine for any interstellar civilization. Here's another picture of the moon from the surface during a lunar eclipse:

Oh and here's this colorful gas giant:

Same gas giant with one of its moons, set against the backdrop of the Milky Way.

I've definitely saved this location, holy shit this program is awesome
I've definitely saved this location, holy shit this program is awesome
Yes it is. [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00113.png[/thumb]
If I play with time scale too much it seems like it'll teleport you to earth's sun.
This track is wonderful to listen to while traveling the unknown.
That feeling when you get somewhere obscure, at the other end of the universe and everything just fades away and you never want to leave. Is that Avatar-syndrome? I'm just gonna buckle up and ask here, since there aren't any other thread that gets closer to "general space gaming megathread". What are some good modern space-travel sims outside Terran Conflict and Eve? Are there any where you can play on both galactic and planetray level besides Spore *shutters*? [editline]5th August 2012[/editline]
I've definitely saved this location, holy shit this program is awesome
How?
