Breed with the natives and make your home among the stars also, no. TC and EVE are as good as it gets. EVE is getting ground shit shortly (Dust 514) and actual multiplayer interaction of characters in EVE itself. If you have an imagination and some patience try playing Aurora. Its the deepest and most complex (yet accessible) space sim to date.
How do you guys save or bookmark locations? I've discovered some pretty awesome planets but I don't know how to save them.

You can name the location whatever you want in there.

Err, someone seems to be stealing ideas here. They're pretty similar but I guess it's varied enough to be coincidental.
Does this support 3D vision? That would be the closes to the Planetarium (Imax) "Holy shit, i'm falling into space!" feeling. We were watching a documentary on one of those screens and christ. At one point, the cam pans over an asteroid and proceeds to turn downwards. For some reason it felt like the whole room had just rotaded so we were turning face down and a lot of people were shifting in their seats. Biggest Vertigo ever!

It uses OpenGL, if that's any help.
Couple nice mods came out today. New Mars 32k texture http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/17-905-1 And a recolored Moon http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/17-906-1
Just something I made while experimenting with low FOV. [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/FullPan.jpg[/thumb]

It's just a simple logo that both programs happen to use.
Someone on the forums is experimenting with clouds a bit. I found a terra with great mountains and here it is on all LOD settings: LOD -2 [thumb]http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/9112/scr00010i.jpg[/thumb] LOD -1 [thumb]http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/1826/scr00011j.jpg[/thumb] LOD 0 [thumb]http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/1297/scr00012c.jpg[/thumb] LOD 1 [thumb]http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7994/scr00013.jpg[/thumb] LOD 2 [thumb]http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/9665/scr00014.jpg[/thumb] Changing LOD can really change screenshots.
I know it's Beta but Is the program just generally unstable or am i unique in the fact I crash frequently when observing planets. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a memory thing though. I can't get it to properly load LoD either, planets are blurry as fuck up close but when i zoom out they flash between the appropriate level of detail and the blurred. Ergh. Anyways; Been touring around the Milky Way and decided to stop at a star closer towards the Center of our Galaxy. What graphical settings are you guys using? I'm getting cubed planets if I set the settings too high.
What graphical settings are you guys using? I'm getting cubed planets if I set the settings too high.
Cubed planets?
Cubed planets?
The terrain is all cubey, you can see it a few pages back
The terrain is all cubey, you can see it a few pages back
You running in Crossfire? Turn it off. If not, I have no clue.

For my HD 7850 I can do 4096x4096 but any higher and it crashes. I think that's the usual maximum, some cards can do higher though.
I'm getting a bunch of errors when I try to download this (mostly unexpected-end-of-archive, etc.). There are only two folders, config and data and no exe. I can't open any of the files either because they're all corrupted.
Did you try downloading from the torrent?
I'll try that now. [editline]25th August 2012[/editline] Yep, seems to work. Thanks. [editline]25th August 2012[/editline] Alright new problem, does anyboby know why it keeps crashing every 5 minutes? seems like a memory leak or something.
Also, if you're experiencing crashes on Windows 7, update to 0.9.6 (here) as I found out for myself. Another adventure... and cool Astronomy facts you can pull from playing this; Ended up finding myself in Messier 104 (The Sombrero Gallaxy, as we know it). Once inside of the Galaxy I found myself drawn to a particularly bright dot in the streaming lines of all the other stars passing. As I got closer I noticed it wasn't a star but a globular cluster of stars and so I continued further into it until finding myself next to a Binary star system, which we should all know is pretty common- But this one was unique apparently and has liquid water. [for reference, any unit measurements with a + (ie M+, S+) refer to ratio masses compared to our local stellar objects. M = Earth Masses, S = Solar/Sun Masses, etc. So if a Star is 0.25 S+ it is a quarter the mass of our own Sun.] -- == -- System Name: RSC 8542-1015-2-40-72 A/BA System Type: Binary Star System (a Red Dwarf 0.89 S+ and a Yellow Giant 1.37 S+) + Interestingly the Red Dwarf has a rotational period of about 12 hours, That's fast for a stable star. For comparison it's companion is at 4.3 years and our Sun is at about 24.5 days. Two polar extremes. + Mostly Gas and small rocky planets without atmospheres numbering roughly 12. One exception which actually has Life! [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/sDF6o.jpg[/thumb] Planet: RSC 8542-1015-2-40-72-3 / "3" Distance from Star/Barycenter (MAX/MIN): 11.9 AU / 4.3 AU (1 AU = Distance from Earth to our Sun.) Let's also say that in relation to our year and seasons you landed where the above map indicates the planet (red line). This would be around mid to late spring where temperatures are relatively mild, about 57°F on an average day, and days would not differ much to our own in N. England or N. US Coastal states. As the planet rotates every 15 or so hours the day is half the length it is here on Earth however due to the binary system and dense globular cluster of stars it never becomes quite as dark as it does here on Earth at night. Instead the atmosphere would bear a slight purple tint, especially during the interim between night and day. As the planet is less than half the size of the Earth you could probably circle it in a truck in a few days given flat ground. Surprisingly gravity is only slightly less than Earth, you would feel slightly stronger here. Due to the atmosphere being thicker than back home, you would have a little trouble breathing at first but would adjust within a few days to a week most likely. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/HBrBU.jpg[/thumb] + For the first 10 years everything goes perfect, there is liquid water and temperate days to build your homes and live your lives out. However as a couple of decades go by you and your colonists will notice temperatures begin to drastically change and the one bright pair of stars begin to split into two in the sky, when you landed and began days were cool and bearable. Now as the binary stars draw closer and the planet has begun to heat up days now hover anywhere from 160°F/C into upwards of the 200° F/C range. Vast bodies of water nearby that were used for supplies begin to evaporate and dry up, the air becomes incredibly humid and dense. Visibility drops and so does respiratory health. Days and nights become less distinguishable and temperatures between the day/night cycles seem to feel less and less. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/fePJl.jpg[/thumb] + Now, for the next twenty or so years forward you and your people operate from beneath the ground until temperatures begin to cool down again. The atmosphere that was once saturated with water begins to dump it's reserves and torrential downpours ensue over the next five years or so, every day. until the lakes and bodies of water are returned to their original states, or something similar. Your people are now free to come out from their shelters, however anything previously built has likely been destroyed by the extreme humidity and flooding that has taken place over the last few decades. But the weather is nice again and the suns are becoming one. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/iKbRe.jpg[/thumb] + With the passing of summer your society now looks forward to what the opposite season has to hold; Winter. Expected and gradually temperatures begin to decline further and further to levels that may seem incredible. When winter sinks in and all that water that fell begins to freeze over entirely, temperatures begin to fall into the low double digits and worse in some places, reaching as far down as -160° F/C. The only thing that saves your civilization is the greenhouse effect boosting the average temperature roughly 92 Kelvin. Ensuring the global average does not drop beneath 10 or so degrees Celsius/Fahrenheit. As for days and nights, it might as well be night. For the next thirty years it will be dark and cold. The atmosphere will be even more purple, but the stars are absolutely gorgeous at night.... [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/YCmOo.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/STfxS.jpg[/thumb] Any life here would likely consist of microbial bacterial living underneath the Oceans or in underground reservoirs that survive the harsh summers and rigid winters. Anything else would likely die off once the seasons changed. Best times to Visit: SPRING AND FALL. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/3EhOu.jpg[/thumb] In short... This simulator is AWESOME. Anyone with a basic understanding of Astronomy and physics can have a blast. I took all these pictures at the same time in relation to the planet (so in the "afternoon", at about noon or 7.5hrs out of a 15.5hr day).
How common is it to find a heart shaped sunspot on a sun? I found one randomly and thought it was the cutest.
I haven't touched Space Engine in a year. These new screenshots, wow.
I found a sun exploding. Is this special? [editline]26th August 2012[/editline] [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/YTvS[/img_thumb] Pretty.
That's just a giant star, not a supernova. They most likely look like that. There's no supernovas in the game, just remnants of them.
Giving this a try!
Just some pictures and a cool ring effect. [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00177.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00183.png[/thumb] [thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32146097/scr00184.png[/thumb]
