That means it's tidally locked iirc. Half the planet never sees the sun and therefore freezes over.
Well, that's what I would have thought if it wasn't actually facing it's parent star :p
Then you're watching a planet on which some mad scientist invented a freeze bomb.
I wonder what kind of insane effects locking a planet tidally would have on a planet over time...
wikipedia awwayyyy

You'd get the Norway hemisphere and the Florida hemisphere.
Sometime it's better to have auto-exposure disabled. (IMO)

Does anyone else find this game terrifying? examples: slowly moving towards a black hole is unnerving as hell! Plus, going into a gas giant freaks me the hell out. Another example is I typed in a random object to find and went to it, and the planet was just black.. I thought, oh the sun must be shining on it from a different direction, I went all the way around it and found out the planet was completely black. I immediatly reversed the hell out of there through a HUGE sun that made me jump from shock of brightness.
This game is worse than any horror for me.. Am I alone? :(

Actually, I had this problem with the stars and planets in Freelancer. I would deliberately go out of my way to not select trade lanes near a star.
Doesa anyone else find it hot when a planet is sandwiched between two stars?

dude atleast label it nsfw!
Experimenting with really high res images (4K and 8K).
Edit: Changed to links, some systems don't handle the screenshots very well.

Oh neat. I tried to make a 4K image using the skybox exporter but it went black.

Your graphics card might not support the resolution
Made a little video on Gas giants

I had it originally in B/W to make it look more like this

but I decided it wasn't worth the effort trying to match that

yeah just to let you know those 4k thumbnails still lag the entire page
Your graphics card might not support the resolution
It should.
Changed them, didn't think it would lag that page for some people. It was about the same size as many of the panoramas that people post on the thread.
Anyone know a good way to get rid of the gradient banding? Either in Space Engine itself or in an image editing program to correct it afterwards.
Check out that gallery from the last page, looks like colored rings are coming in the next patch.

the effect is sort of speculated the only possible habitable zone would be narrow ring between the hot and cold side
and even that is questionable due to very strong winds

I suppose that would make sense. Space Engine makes it look too nice.
(I never actually did wikipedia it, I just opened a google tab, got distracted, and started KSP :v:)

what if that planet would naturally be very cold but being tidally locked made the whole front side habitable (or the other way round) (like europa in 2060)

Well, assuming the latter (ie heat radiates to the dark side of the planet making it warm while the other side is balls hot) it would create stupid weather. The terminator would be plagued by heavy winds and storms all the time because of the constant meeting pressure differentials.

suddenly, crazy mapping inspiration
The Twi'lek homeworld in Star Wars EU is Tidally locked and the population lives in area inbetween

Not sure how anything could evolve there.

From the Gallery mentioned above, this planet reminds me of Tatooine

I left the HUD on on purpose:

How is such an insane atmospheric pressure possible? Perhaps I'm reading the diameter/mass symbols wrong. Does anyone know of anywhere I can get a full list of definitions for the various symbols that show up there (M(+), D(+), etc).

I've seen planets with over 2000 atm. pressure.
