What is your level of education? What got you interested in your field?

High school diploma, one point away from graduating with an IB diploma as well.
Working on my second to last semester of college here. Degree in Computer Science. I played shitloads of video games as a kid and wanted a computer-related career. My pops is also a software developer so that probably had a fair bit of influence as well.
Just finished my degree in Geology and going on to do a masters in Geological Hazards in September

KIA'd during a third grade food fight
masters in sexology
pursuing a degree in UI/UX design + development
currently a senior in high school but i'm planning to enter college majoring in marketing
i don't like/am not good enough in any of the STEM fields, don't want to waste my money on liberal arts, so the only thing left is business which is pretty cool in my book
Graduated from High School this year. I'm going to college for a degree in Computer Science. Currently planned for 4 years, though it may change dependent on circumstances
How many years of your life have you wasted to the education system?
Fixed.
On that note I more or less dropped out in upper high school (What we Swedes call "Gymnasium"). I only say more or less because I was still enrolled, I just stopped attending classes to focus on what I wanted to do in my spare time instead because I was learning nothing of value in the classes I went to.
After a year I just realized "Nah, this isn't gonna work" and I decided to just learn on my own. And trust me, if I had stuck with the school plan and been a good student, I would probably be flipping burgers at McDonalds or something by now, because I wouldn't have the portfolio or skills to do what I do now (animation, cinematography, VFX, script and much more).
My highest qualification is a Level 3 BTEC (roughly equivalent to 3 A Levels) in Creative Media (specifically Games Development), I think I got a "Distinction-Merit-Merit" (or a Distinction-Distinction-Merit? it's been a long time since I've looked at my certificates) which was enough to get me into university.
Which promptly gave me cold feet and probably killed my passion. I should have said "screw university" and gone straight into making an indie RPG. But nope, I naively thought I was cut out for university workloads, and that they could give me anything worthwhile. What a wasted month that was.
But I still tell myself "some day". Some day I'll make use of that BTEC and use what I learned. (though sadly they never taught us anything about programming)

I'm not familiar with UK education but how can you have something like a certification in Games Development without programming knowledge? What did they make you do?
Have a vocational education in Web development and am doing Gymnasium to comeplete certain subjects to do something else later on. I was kinda sure I knew what I wanted to do, but now I'm not entirely sure anymore
Finished high school two years ago, started studying medicine last August. So 6 years (assuming no delays, might take half a year off to do something else at some point, but I don't know yet) to go before I'm an actual doctor (and then you have to specialize of course...), so I'm gonna sacrifice a lot more time before I'm done.
I don't think I can really appreciate how great free education is - I'm not sure I'd decide on studying medicine if I were looking at maybe $100k-200k debt at the end (or even more, I don't know).

Well, I wasn't sure I wanted to study medicine, but then again I wasn't sure whether I wanted to study anything else - now that I am studying medicine, I don't regret it (at least so far). Personally I believe that, with some exceptions, everything can be interesting if you go deep enough. With the way the Danish system is set up, you're lucky enough to have the option of changing tracks if something isn't to your taste. Either way, I think it's extremely normal (and probably healthy) to not be entirely convinced of your direction in life.

It was more of the artistic side of things (hence the Creative Media title), like 3D modelling, texturing, making a design document, concept art, animating things in Flash (fat lot of useful THAT is nowadays), that kind of stuff. Don't remember much of it, to be honest. All in all, it was probably more of an art degree than an actual computing degree. Just one more regret to throw on the barbie, I guess.
