Again you bring up Strawmanning, How the fuck am I? Could I see an example?
Sure.
You don't go "EW LOOK, A HUMAN! THATS DISGUSTING!" but you can see plenty of examples of what boils down to "EW LOOK, A TRANNY! THATS DISGUSTING!"
You're using deliberately demeaning buzzwords that no-one had mentioned to further yourself as a legitimate source of debate and as leverage to make others agree with you. Also picking the weakest point of my arguments as you're going straight to socially awkward or wrong names for a demographic.
Isn't there much more to worry about than name calling and such? I mean seriously.
You guys and girls are getting so uppity about a way someone says something that you all know to mean no offense at all anyway, why is this argument even happening.
PC gone wrong, imo. [editline]20th September 2012[/editline] Or right, depending on what side you're looking at this from.
trans·gen·der/tranzˈjendər/ Adjective: Identified with a gender other than the biological one.
it doesn't matter who thinks what's, riodoku is correct. transgender is an adjective, not a noun, you can't say "a transgender" and be grammatically correct. stop arguing over it.
I kinda have to wonder why this argument is really happening honestly. It's not like someone came in degrading us, it was just someone coming in saying he (or she, don't know if MtF or FtM) was going to come out to his/her parents and he/she put an a on accident.
Sure. Also picking the weakest point of my arguments as you're going straight to socially awkward or wrong names for a demographic.
Are you fucking joking me? Buzz words? Really? I used Tranny because thats what most cispeople would say and because it just came to mind. Not because its a fucking buzzword or anything like that. And I wasn't even responding to you. How could I be picking the weakest point of your argument.
it doesn't matter who thinks what's, riodoku is correct. transgender is an adjective, not a noun, you can't say "a transgender" and be grammatically correct. stop arguing over it.
But, you can say I'm a male/female/guy/girl/woman/man and be grammatically correct? I don't get it.
You guys and girls are getting so uppity about a way someone says something that you all know to mean no offense at all anyway, why is this argument even happening.
Because it is meaningful to the entirety of the transgender rights movement, albeit in a small way. It's sn important point if discussion. You can't eliminate biotry and misunderstanding in one fell swoop, you have to try to make as many corrections to the finer points as you possibly can before you can tackle the bigger issues.
But, you can say I'm a male/female/guy/girl/woman/man and be grammatically correct? I don't get it.
Transgender is not a gender. I am transgender, and I am a woman. These are small differences in language, but the devil's in the details.
But, you can say I'm a male/female/guy/girl/woman/man and be grammatically correct? I don't get it.
All of those are nouns, at least partially.
it doesn't matter who thinks what's, riodoku is correct. transgender is an adjective, not a noun, you can't say "a transgender" and be grammatically correct. stop arguing over it.
Even so, a grammatical error doesn't mean anyone's being discriminatory, yet that's what the argument is about.
Are you fucking joking me? Buzz words? Really? I used Tranny because thats what most cispeople would say and because it just came to mind. Not because its a fucking buzzword or anything like that. And I wasn't even responding to you. How could I be picking the weakest point of your argument.
You were obviously addressing the opposing opinions in general, my dear. I just assumed that you meant me also. Though if you didn't mean to then brownie points go to you and I'll have to work my way back up the totem pole.
All of those are nouns, at least partially.
You could use "I'm a homosexual / I'm homosexual" as an example. Neither are discriminatory in any way, and nobody will get offended by the use of either.
Even so, a grammatical error doesn't mean anyone's being discriminatory, yet that's what the argument is about.
The Argument is you two nitpicking at Riodoku for point out that something is discriminatory in a way wether or not it was meant to be. No one is saying the original person who said A Transgender is discriminatory or trying to discriminate or be rude or whatever.
Even so, a grammatical error doesn't mean anyone's being discriminatory, yet that's what the argument is about.
It can. Ignorant masses tend to completely misuse terms, and in harmful ways. Hell, this didn't even have to be an argument until Black got all uppity.
The Argument is you two nitpicking at Riodoku for point out that something is discriminatory in a way wether or not it was meant to be. No one is saying the original person who said A Transgender is discriminatory or trying to discriminate or be rude or whatever.
Yet you still argue it? ...what?
Even so, a grammatical error doesn't mean anyone's being discriminatory, yet that's what the argument is about.
That is not at all what this discussion is about. Xero's use of language is not important, I brought up my point as an aside to the way they worded themself.
You could use "I'm a homosexual / I'm homosexual" as an example. Neither are discriminatory in any way, and nobody will get offended by the use of either.
Because homosexual is both a noun and an adjective?
ho·mo·sex·u·al/ˌhōməˈsekSHo͞oəl/ Adjective: (of a person) Sexually attracted to people of one's own sex. Noun: A person who is sexually attracted to people of their own sex.
Argue what? Riodoku's correct point? That the person who originally said it was being discriminatory?(Which, I'm not, because they weren't.) You're making no sense.
Hell, this didn't even have to be an argument until Black got all uppity.
That's really ignorant of my race, and it hurts. [editline]20th September 2012[/editline]
Argue what? Riodoku's correct point? That the person who originally said it was being discriminatory?(Which, I'm not, because they weren't.) You're making no sense.
And reading that, neither are you.
Every day I have to decide between whenever or not this thread or the RP one I host makes the most trivial arguments.
Well I told them... and they both pretty much knew already and were proud of me for telling them. Hell, my mom already had business cards for counselors/therapists. I <3 life Edit: Also sorry for the misuse of the word earlier... Wasn't using trying to use it in a negative way or start any arguments.
If you think this discussion is trivial, I don't think you've been paying very close attention. It's small, but it's an important point.
Well I told them... and they both pretty much knew already and were proud of me for telling them. Hell, my mom already had business cards for counselors/therapists. I <3 life
Awesome! Having your parents on board is going to make things a whole lot easier, you've got a support system now. I hope things continue to go well.

That entire argument was stupid. unrelated; Can someone explain when I should use him / her... for example if someones MtF do I call um, them, her? I used to just think "do they have a penis" if yes = him lol But yeah kinda realised that's umm, wrong.

I thought you call someone their preferred gender regardless of body parts.

Ideally, I'd like to use "Them" with someone unless they've specifically told me whether or not they prefer a specific gender pronoun.
Being politically correct is awful. It's not your right to be offended so stop acting like people should try not to offend you. This argument should have never taken place simply because there were no ill intentions in Xero calling herself/himself transgender. It's so completely obvious that it shouldn't have even been mentioned, why do you people correct other's spelling and grammar anyways? Who gives a fuck.

Nobody said that Xero calling themselves that was meant to be rude or inconsiderate but that the wording itself can convey some negative connotations against transpeople as a whole. Why is it bad to have pointed that out?
