My parents' insurance has apparently run out. My dad is getting a separate plan through his work, but we don't know if it's going to cover my HRT. Fuck, I've been working at this for two years. How much would it cost to pay out-of-pocket in the US? Does anyone have a clue?
They're usually available as generics, and most big stores like Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, etc have programs where generics are available for less than $10/month. Even just getting them online as non-generic from inhousepharmacy is only about $40/month. What's really going to cost you is blood work and doctor's appointments.
why are you ALWAYS so pessimistic
No idea actually.
Don't get your hopes up. I'm terrible at talking to therapists or really anyone that isn't on the internet, so I could very well fail the interview.

why are you ALWAYS so pessimistic
This. That's never good. Keep your hopes up. I find that being pessimistic get me depressed VERY fast. Also you really have nothing to worry about. Just talk to the therapist, they'll ask you questions, you answer them. Simple as that. Not yes or no questions, obviously, but yeah.

So, what's the cost on that, typically?
Where do you live in Canada btw? Some places are more liberal with these issues.
Thankfully in Edmonton. Both of the only two doctors who deal with this sort of stuff operate in this city.
Welp, I suppose I'd better come out as a genderfluid guy who's into crossdressing and would love nothing more than to go through HRT/surgery to become a girl but is too afraid of how he'll feel afterwards. Wait...
I was talking to my sister, and I forgot how it lead up to it but I said something and she said "Did you just call yourself a lady?" and I said "Well I wish I was a lady" and she said "Well you'd make a really good lady" heh

Wait...
Somehow this doesn't surprise me. I don't know why, maybe its because your Avatar reminds of someone completely different, but i still end up applying their personality onto you. Either way it really doesn't surprise me. :v: Anyway, I'll tell you the same thing I told Killz2Much. Go to a Therapist, explain gender identity and shit to them and it'll help you be less confused. (You can add me and ask how to explain if you want, I had to 3 times to 2 different doctors and my Therapist.) [Editline]hi[/editline] From now on i'm rating every post about coming out with either Gaybow or Winner. [Editline]hi[/editline] Just because.

Mmmmmm my sister and I have been trying to get my dad to start referring to me by my preferred name. He isn't breaking >:C
Mmmmmm my sister and I have been trying to get my dad to start referring to me by my preferred name. He isn't breaking >:C
Which is? Fuck I need a new avatar.
I have to disagree. The MtF Vagina is impressive, it's not going to function the same, no chance of having kids with our current progress but it fools most gynecologists. From a visual perspective, it's perfect. Functionally, not yet but it's getting there.
I heard it doesn't have any feeling though, I'd chalk that up as a significant downside.
I heard it doesn't have any feeling though, I'd chalk that up as a significant downside.
I heard that many MtF women achieve sexual satisfation [orgasm?] Probably wrong though. [editline]29th March 2012[/editline]
Which is?
Sydney. A name I've been using for years.
I heard it doesn't have any feeling though, I'd chalk that up as a significant downside.
If you have a good surgeon that's not true at all. One of the primary goals of SRS in a surgeon's mind is to not damage the nerves of that area. [editline]29th March 2012[/editline] By good I mean a "Not Thailand back alley" Surgeon.
Welp, I suppose I'd better come out as a genderfluid guy who's into crossdressing and would love nothing more than to go through HRT/surgery to become a girl but is too afraid of how he'll feel afterwards. Wait...
Aren't you a girl? I'm confused.
I heard it doesn't have any feeling though, I'd chalk that up as a significant downside.
That's the only thing holding me back from wanting it. The idea of never having an orgasm ever again scares the hell out of me.
That's the only thing holding me back from wanting it. Something else to think about, too. It may not be very good now, but how are they going to get better without practice, without study, without experimentation? If you don't get a surgery because you're scared of undesirable results, then it's never going to progress. Especially since that's the most common reasoning. The more people that go through with the surgery means the more people that are providing information. Providing practice for the surgeons, providing study.
You could also consult a doctor about it if you're worried.
Very true! I'm not a Doctor, So don't take my advice at face value (obviously I wasn't expecting you would). I was just trying to put some people at ease :) [editline]30th March 2012[/editline]
Something else to think about, too.
I heard it doesn't have any feeling though, I'd chalk that up as a significant downside.
Women I've spoken with who've had it done say they've still got feeling and can orgasm. I think the idea that it leaves no feeling, probably comes from the early archaic attempts at SRS, which was basically a penectomy and putting a piece of your colon in there.
http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TS/SRS.html
Reading that made me really worried for my MTF girlfriend, but it's probably just because it's three in the morning. [editline]30th March 2012[/editline]
Mmmmmm my sister and I have been trying to get my dad to start referring to me by my preferred name.
You could always stop responding to any other name.
I get in trouble when I try to do that.

The information provided in the link above definitely provides me with some very useful, scarce information though.

Like, you get your surgery and get to be part of advancing research for the whole trans community.
Either way if you don't want it don't get it then. I'm getting it either way.
You lot are just awesome. Best for advice, too. Seriously, Fuck Google, because its best to take advice from those currently experiencing it. I also miss wearing all my girly stuff. I just like having my torso and abdomen encased in my corset. P.S, I love you all. Totes lesbo.
I just tried my sister's (Barely used) epilator thing My basic reaction while I was doing it: "HOLY SHITFUCK HOW DO PEOPLE DO THIS TO THEIR WHOLE LEG?" And it didn't even work that well [editline]30th March 2012[/editline] And I now have a stripe of red dots down my thigh
