Heh, if/when you come over here people will pick up on your accent and say "Oh. You're a yank". You'll reply with, "No mate, I'm Canadian". They'll suddenly smile and say "Ah, brilliant! Barman, pint for our overseas cousin!"
Honestly though, you'll get quite a bit of attention. Every time I meet someone from your continent I can't help but converse with them.
All males refer to each other as mate. And if you choose London, head up on the trains to Cambridge. Proper British place right there.
London is the way. Honestly most of Britain's other cities are just meh compared to the things you can do over there. It's going to be expensive though, believe me so take whatever cash you got.
Find a good pub, talk to people who'll be amazed by your accent, try not to mention any past wars and you should fit in nicely.
London's a bit of a shit hole, but as long as you keep near the tourist destination's you'll be fine. It's hella expensive there. I recommend Newcastle/Edinburgh as it's rather nice in both cities, just remember to pack a coat.

London's good for a day trip, nothing else. Every thing's 2x as expensive than up here.

Day trip? Have you ever lived in London? There's plenty to do, since it's the bloody capital and everything happens there. Anything of a "shithole" nature is in the east-end or general impoverished areas which there are a lot of, but the centre is damn fine. You'll get the best experience of a modern-day Britain in London, or any South-East area.
Albeit it is the most expensive, so you might wanna move around to the North where it's cheaper, but it's far from being a day-trip.

london is fantastic as long as you have a decent sized pile of disposable income to live there.

I'm British and I actually lol'd at that.
So I have some spare cash, and a lot of free time and I've been wanting to travel.
United Kingdom is a place I've always wanted to visit and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or tips for me. I was thinking of going to London (according to Facepunch.) if not, either: Manchester, Reading or Leeds. What do you guys think?
don't expect good food. that's one thing thats very difficult to find in the uk. to an american anyway. of course if you've lived there you disagree, but it is the general opinion of almost everyone else that British food is awful.

it can be bland and stodgy but equally it's a melting pot of lots of other cultures of food.
and it really isn't hard to find good food, just go to a nice restauraunt.
in the same way that america has lots of macdonalds, i'm sure it also has quite a few nice restauraunts. if you go anyway and are willing to pay you can get fantastic food and drinks.
Go to Camden Market
He'll get shanked!
Go to Glasgow, walk up to the first Scottish person you see (preferably a big guy, as they have great senses of humour!). Call him a 'northern pussy'. This is considered a friendly greeting amongst their people and he will instantly become endeavoured with your grasp of his culture! He might even Kiss you.
Make sure you let him know you're American, too
Go to one of the nicer areas of London. Camden is awesome, I once saw "legal mix of herbs" that looked suspiciously like weed for sale :smug:
GO TO LIVERPOOL.
Just do this.
Come to Thetford, get stabbed! Or almost any part of Norfolk actually.
Heh.
Yeah, Wells is a lethal place to go.
Are you from the US?
I'm from Canada.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. How expensive is London? I have a decent amount of cash but the plane is going to cost me about 1/3 of my money.
The Isle of Wight is quite nice.
Bath is a really pretty city, I go to college there would recommend visiting it on a day trip or a weekend.
No , don't go to london. That place is either full of chavs or yahs.
Go up north. Edinburgh is probably the best place to go. If you want to you can go to Glasgow , but for the love of god stay the fuck away from anyone in a tracksuit.
Or you may die.
Or take the scenic route and go to places like Matlock bath and almost all of Cheshire.
Beat up all the chavs, You'll be doing everyone a massive favor.
Oh and Alton Towers is pretty good.
Go to Reading, its like the cheaper version of London and I live here :3
dude i live in reading always have done, tis a trash can.
I would suggest going to London, it's not a "Day Trip only city" and it's not full of Blacks baying for your white blood, nor is it full of Chavs wanting a fag, or a quid or the time, Granted they are here and there are parts of london you should avoid like any city, for the most part London is a great city with a fuck tonne to do and you most likely won't have enough time to do it in.
P.S The traffic is fucking horrendous.

Ah yeah, the famous Glasgow Kiss, the ultimate display of friendship <3
For England the North is grim and the south is a shit hole. Do not go to London if you value your life, the shit bits will sizzle your brains and the touristy bits will have you queuing for hours.
Come to Scotland, it's cold but it's a hell of a lot more friendly (Except Glasgow, which is our own personal tribute to London). You could go to the North of England, it's a balance of the two really. But don't go too deep into an English city or you may never return.
Or, as somebody on the last page said, go to the Isle of Man, it's nice there.
Im an American living in England right now and trust me. you'll want to Visit Ireland or Scotland instead. i dont like England that much. everywhere I look there is people talking about how shit stupid and fat "all" Americans are. never heard shit coming from the Scots or the Irish. also visit France.

You say you want to come to the UK although you specify that you want to go to places that are in England, what about Scotland, Ireland or Wales?
I live in Scotland and trust me if you go to the highlands you will see the best scenery in the world.
I live in Glasgow to be specific and well...it's close to being as bad as the Bronx in NYC.
Oh and us Scots hate everyone, surrounding countries...the world in general.
Don't bother, it's not a good place.
But, if you're insisting, go to London or somewhere along the South Coast. Go much further north than London and you'll get stabbed (This will also happen in south london AKA saaf-end)

I'm part irish (have relatives still living there, so i stay with them a lot) and the reason for that is that a lot of irish are too busy being pissed off at the english, and singing about it.

Its funny because you find out he is Canadian later.
I recommend going to London it has the most tourist attractions. Then fly up to Edinburgh thats pretty awesome to especially the castle.
Or if you want the British countryside with scones go to Cornwall or somewhere.
And I am from Leicester If you are wondering
Come to Edinburgh! There is lots to do, if you go up north the scenery is great and i can give you a HUG.
Cornwall / Devon? Nice and pretty.
Welsh mountains or Lake district if your an outdoorsy kinda guy. Lots of walking, hiking kayaking etc.
But bog standard spend a week in london's tourist attractions is OK I suppose.
I'd recommend newcastle, though i suppose i'm slightly biased.
It's a nice city, honestly. And cheaper than london certainly. There's all sorts of 'cultural' stuff around the area. The national parks around here are pretty awesome too, look up the north york moors and northumberland.
There's obviously more than just pretty fields and art galleries though, what sort of visit were you planning?
