Over half your post, OP, is inb4's.
my father is a retired first sargent and was in the army for almost 20 years, did a couple tours in somalia and other shit and my stepmother is currently in the airforce and is going to retire soon, she did 10. both of them said while they did learn skills and stuff in the army, if they had the choice to do it again- they wouldn't. so hey take that into account

Nobody likes being there afterward.
Haha! Its funny cause Canada doesn't have a military.
Everyone who rated that a smiley was American, guaranteed.
Just wanted to tell you, thank you for fueling the war machine. You are doing the world a favor.
A soldier signing up to fight a war that would go on with or without him is not "fueling the war machine".
Get The Fuck Out
[sarcasm]HAHA YOU'RE SO COOL[/sarcasm] OT, what does the Canadian military really do? I'm not saying it to be arrogant or anything but , what does the Canadian military actually do? I thought they were a relatively neutral country and I haven't seen any news reports about turmoil between Canada and any other country(s).
Go for it, that way they'll have enough people so the chance of a mandatory draft would be slightly less likely. Make sure that you persuade your friends and family to go with you as well.
You should get a huge gun and be badass.
I would have been in the army but I couldnt because of my peanuts allergies and I have bad Asthma... sucks
Get The Fuck Out
I'm cool cause I capitalize the first letter of each word. [editline]07:00AM[/editline]
Gamer.
Someone plays games? On Facepunh? A forum originally made for a game? No way!
Everyone who rated that a smiley was American, guaranteed.
I'm not American
Hey bro, I'm Canadian too, might join when i'm old enough, maybe i'll see you on the front lines.

Relatively small (Canada - 67000 troops, Australia - 55000) but very highly trained. Involved in peace keeping and supporting larger forces...(US). Actually we Aussies and the Canucks have been serving together for over 100 years, from the Boer war to the Korean War and now in the 'ghan. Have a look at this vid of the TAG (not the SASR like the title implies) if you don't think the Aussies are hardcore :)
Royal Australian Infantry Corps rifleman here. If you really want to, do it. Make sure you're serious about it, though, otherwise you'll just be wasting your own - and everyone else's - time. Best decision of my life by far, feel free to ignore all the know-it-all civvies in this thread.
Royal Australian Infantry Corps rifleman here.
I'm so sorry.
Dont do it We will miss you
Well, it would be embarassing if he ripped ass as loud as drumset during parade wouldn't it
I'm so sorry.
I'm not. Then again, I'm neither 15 nor totally void of and knowledge of anything outside of B-grade movies and games like most people in this thread, so...
No, don't.
I really want to join and go for sniper training. But I don't wanna die. I just wanna shoot the sweet sniper rifles at stuff and crawl around in ghilie suits.
You sound like my mate. Unfortunately, neither of you seem to grasp how long it takes to even get selected for a course, and as a general rule sniper courses have pretty high fail rates. This isn't CoD we're talking about, that shit is fucking hard. You'd have to be in the infantry for a number of years and really prove yourself worthy before anyone even considered you for it.
I'm sure covering yourself in dog shit and mud and lying in a bush for a day has its ups
I'm sure being 15 and talking about things you don't understand has its ups
Yeah you're right I think you've completely changed my view now, and you know what? Screw the Army! Not for me because I know nothing about it! I even admitted the advice I was giving wasn't first hand, nor have I experienced any of it but I've read enough stuff that's given me everything I need to know and it's been a career choice for a very long time. I think it's very judgemental of you to say I know nothing about a future career choice I want to pursue.
Well maybe if you hadn't made the same kid of childish statements most of the other people in the thread have, I wouldn't have been so judgemental?
Like what?
Like this?
I'm sure covering yourself in dog shit and mud and lying in a bush for a day has its ups
Whether it was intended or not, it came off as extremely sarcastic. If it was a serious statement, my bad. Either way, I'm tired and can't be fucked to keep responding to this thread. My only real advice is as I said before - be sure of it, and if you are, do it. I don't doubt by this time tomorrow the thread will be swamped with more posts from kids who have had their parents' own ignorant views on things shovelled down their throats all their lives, as it already has been over the last two pages, but the fact of the matter is that only you can really decide what's right for your own future. Being in the military doesn't necessitate going into combat, although you should never assume there's no chance of it. It doesn't mean going out to kill people - militaries generally do a lot of the heavy lifting in humanitarian missions as well. When push comes to shove I'd be more inclined to take advice from a donkey than from a gaggle of teenagers who make it abundantly clear their only 'knowledge' of the military came from movies, games, tenth-hand stories from biased third parties, and a general unwillingness to acknowledge they could possibly be wrong about anything ever. Suit yourselves. I love my job. I get paid to get in shape, learn how to operate all sorts of awesome equipment, and hang out with the best guys in the world. I'll get the opportunity to actually help out after natural disasters rather than piss about with my thumb up my arse like most of you. Yeah, I might see some combat, but that's not why I joined. Anyone who thinks people join just to kill is an idiot. Anyone who thinks they're anti-war should probably talk to some vets. Anyway, if I don't get some sleep, I'm going to be conking out during the hockey tomorrow, and that absolutely will not do. If I've made even a few of you reconsider your views, I guess that's better than nothing.
My grandfather, now deceased, was a general in the Spanish army, and he HATED war.
COD 6 anyone?

What about our special services, i cant remember their proper name for some reason.
