Actually he's right, it's common sense.
You can't say someone is against a concept if the concept doesn't exist to begin with.
Atheism means "not believing in God". If the concept of God didn't exist, people wouldn't believe in God. Everyone would be atheist, so atheism would still be a thing, even if it was called "normality" instead.
If you are uncertain whether God exists or not in a sense that we could even talk to him, you are stupid.
I'm just telling you what the words mean and what they don't. I'm not saying it's my position.
I don't believe in a god(s) because I've never seen any credible evidence for the existence of one. If tomorrow, a god or gods came down to Earth and told the story of creation, then I'd probably believe in it, but I don't expect that to happen.
So atheists are stupid for even mentioning God and thinking they are smart when they don't believe in it. (Most "atheists" probably don't even give a shit about the subject)
Theists are stupid for pointlessly believing in God.
Agnostics are stupid because they think they don't know whether God exists or not.
Gnostics.. Whoa that's a new one.
And Agnostic Atheism.. that's almost like agnosticism, except agnostic atheists choose not to believe but still leave room for God to be true, which is stupid.
How is that stupid.
How is any of that stupid.
Atheists mention God because how else would they talk about it. Not like God isn't one of the hottest topics these days.
Theists have their reasons for believing, I wouldn't call them stupid.
Agnostic atheism is agnosticism, just some people call themselves agnostic so they can somehow feel superior to both atheists and theists, when in fact they are atheists themselves.

If god didn't exist we wouldn't have invented a notion of not believing in him and atheists wouldn't exist because there wouldn't have been anything to not believe in to begin with.
Your reflexion only applies if the concept of god exists. If no one ever thought up the idea of religion, then no one would have thought to go against the idea.
[editline]2nd January 2012[/editline]
Or else that would mean Atheists created religion for the purpose of going against it which doesn't make sense.
You're wrong.
You're like, seriously and massively wrong.
No I'm not. Come to Sweden.
No I'm not. Come to Sweden.
Oh so Sweden is full of ignorant people?
Because that's the only explanation I can find if you say that all Swedish atheists say that God does not exist.
Actually ignorant is the wrong word.
I can't find a good one uh
Well anyway sweden is just full of stupid atheists then.
Well anyway sweden is just full of stupid atheists then.
Loaded with 'em.
I feel stupid for allowing my parents to force me to go to church and give $20 in offerings every Sunday. I think its all one huge scam to get money, ok get this, The church recently got this 2011 suped up electronic organ, They spent offering money, or rather "Offerings to God" on a damn organ, and then on the day they had it in church, they said to "offer more and the organ will play". They said that because they hadn't even paid off the whole organ yet. I just wonder when people are going to snap out of this bullshit and realize they're not giving money to "God" they're giving it to the church for the churches use. And the only way I "liberated" myself from going to church was by telling my parents I'm atheist, Which was only followed by me getting told i was going to hell, took away my laptop, took away my xbox, and emptied my bank account, all to "save me from my eternal fate in hell". Seriously guys, we need to make a difference in this world and help people, teens, and kids who are stemming away from their parents beliefs and feel like they will be punished if they tell their parents. Absolute Bullshit.
I think he's referring to the other large religions, Islam, and the other ones that follow the bible. Crusades, Inquisition, and quite frankly the story of muhammed
The Abrahamic religions?
Religion came into existence because it's an easy answer. Why am I alive? Because of some divine consciousness wanted me to be alive. (I had a point I was going to make, but I lost it. Oh well)
No I'm not. Come to Sweden.
I live in Norway, but since our borders are pretty much open, I have several Swedish-atheist-friends. NONE of them says what you're claiming. You're trying to save skin by going "You aren't there, therefore your argument is invalid." You're saying what you think they would say. Truth is, you don't know.
Like I said, they act and argue like it. They are not open to the possibility of they being wrong. They don't question their atheism. They blindly bash all religion and spirituality with the worst arguments you've ever heard.
This is the average Joe in Sweden. And also on the internet - just look at FP. :)
Like I said, they act and argue like it. They are not open to the possibility of they being wrong. They don't question their atheism.
Again with this massive (and incorrect) generalization? This has been refuted several times already in this thread (and on this particular page of the thread alone!).
They blindly bash all religion and spirituality with the worst arguments you've ever heard.
Again with the huge generalizations.. What are these horrible arguments and if they are so bad then why don't you refute them with some logic and evidence?
This is the average Joe in Sweden. And also on the internet - just look at FP. :)
I still have yet to meet an atheist who doesn't question their atheism. Every atheist I've had discussions with agree that they would convert immediately if there was solid evidence for the existence of god.
I wouldn't convert.

I'd see what it has to say first.

But I hear you.. I just think that God itself, just God the character, is just another brick in the wall of.. super heroes, nothing to it really. But the metaphoras and moral-stories, they hold some truth/interest in them, like in many good books/whatever.
Then there's also the business-part to religious organizations, politics and shit.. God doesn't play the major role in religiousness. That's why I find talking about God to be rather.. silly. Or how you choose not to believe. Or how you are uncertain.
You may not "worship" that god, but you'd still believe they exist.
What's that got to do with anything.
The fact that doubt has struck everyone, doesn't mean we have to be confused with "why we're here". How about make your own god in your head, maybe even secretly believe that only you are the one that matters, it doesn't really matter what a group thinks. It's up to the individual.

If the arguments are so bad, debunk them.

It amazes me how. And most "atheists" probably wouldn't even care.
Theists have their reasons for believing, I wouldn't call them stupid.
Yeah, for totally other reasons. And I don't hold it against them. Like drug addicts, some sorta offenders who've hit the rock bottom or those who have just born to total poverty or something like that.
But then again some wealthy family with good steady income, sunny backyard etc, they don't have much use for praying/hope/etc religious except when somebody injures himself riding the new cutting-edge rollerblades.

What you've just said is incredibly unsubstantial and frankly I can't understand it. What do you mean, 'god doesn't play the major role in religiousness'? By definition that kind of entity's the most important part.

Most of what a religion is about is traditions and rituals, not gods and philosophies.

Not sure what you're trying to say here.
In my large amount of time thinking about the subject, I must answer in my own way.
Atheism was created by a man.
Agnosticism was created by a man.
Islam was created by a man.
Scientology was created by a man.
Buddhism was created by a man.
The names of these men can easily be Googled... but who created Judaism and Christianity, the two religions that share the same god (until it comes to Jesus, obviously)? Of course, my main belief in Christianity is something that I've come to believe in due to seeing miracles having nothing to do with nature or science. It also makes the most sense to me, really.

Atheism is a lack of belief in a particular idea.
Agnosticism is a lack of knowledge about something.
They are also not "religions" nor are they mutually exclusive terms. Many atheists are agnostic atheists, meaning that they don't know for sure (agnostic), but don't see any reason to believe that there is a god (atheist).
You're correct on Islam, Scientology, and Buddhism being created by men, but agnosticism and atheism are just labels to describe a lack of belief or knowledge about a particular thing.

Again, there is no separation of 'agnosticism' and 'atheism'. There is Gnostic Atheism and Agnostic Atheism, but the term 'agnosticism' more often than not refers to the idea that you don't believe in god but don't perpetuate that gods don't/can't exist. The more accurate description for this is 'Agnostic Atheism'.

Uh, Islam has the same god as Christianity and Judaism too.

Unfortunately I'm an atheist (not agnostic) then because I know for sure whether God exists or not, like as if it even mattered.
Roughly speaking, God is an artifice to guide/control people. And that can be both good and bad, depending how you (mis)interpret what "God" has to say.
There's no such thing as brainwashing yourself. You choose whatever feels right.
Regardless if there are going to the heartless minority who will look down at you.

Who created Hinduism? Who created Shinto? Just because you don't know who created the religion doesn't mean mortals didn't create it. Describe the miracles that you've seen. What is it about Christianity that makes the most sense?

In what way does it make sense?
I advise you to look further into Christianity, to know it doesn't quite make sense. And further your knowledge of the preceding religions to know that they're actually quite open-ended.
oh and Buddhism also denies the existence of god. A Buddhists main principal is just to be happy by doing no harm and meditating, not to be ruled over by a dick in the sky.
