It crawls up to the screen making a high pitch squealing noise. The first scare honestly nearly made me run out of my house.
;31842213']I still have the first book on my shelf. I was too scared of it as a kid to read the others.
I'm still afraid to open it. :smith:
I remember those. Our elementary library had the series, we would dare each other to read them when we got home.
We were deep into the heart of the cave that stemmed from the passage that we had widened all those weeks ago. Last time we were here, this… thing had chased us out. I legitimately feared for my life that night, and we swore we would never return. However, something in that cave followed us out that night. Something evil. It was haunting me for weeks- I ended up sleeping with all the nights on in my house, but that didn’t really help. There were still the strange sites I would see flit by the windows, or down the halls. Whatever it was, it was making me slowly insane, it was like I never left the cave in the first place.
I called Joe and B, and they didn’t respond until around 3 days ago, they had been having the same experiences. We eventually decided to go back to the cave, to find out what followed us, what its intentions were, what the beast was that lived within was, and what those strange runes from before were. The mystery of that un-travelled passage was just so interesting- so intriguing to us, that we couldn’t resist, so we readied for our trip.
Since Joe and I were the only ones small enough to squeeze into the passage, we decided that we would need to be prepared for whatever was inside, namely bringing small weapons for if the beast within was to find us, so I brought my revolver, and Joe brought his hunting knife. B would wait outside with a shotgun, just incase whatever lived inside managed to kill us, and came after him. We had no delusions that what lived in that cave wouldn’t try and kill us, after all, it had before, and nearly succeeded.
Joe went first, as he had a slimmer build and could get through faster than I could. It was a tight squeeze through Floyd’s tomb (as we had named the passage, due to the fact that it resembles the passage that Floyd Collins got stuck in searching for a good tourist passage, and died after several miserable weeks of exposure.), and I had to turn my head to the side to get through properly. The walls pressing in on me from all sides. I had my arms at my sides, and I was scooting with my toes to get through. The process took roughly 4 minutes to complete, and I had a few good scratches on my chest and back from the ceiling and the floor of Floyd’s tomb.
When I was through, Joe had already begun setting up our gear. Our flashlights only shone light around 20 feet or so, but it was enough. I nervously looked around, and I asked him if he was absolutely sure about this. He nodded yes, and we went further into the cavern. As we passed the large room, we noticed a faint smell. We weren’t sure what it was a first, but as we got further into the room, the smell got more distinct- Rotting flesh. Joe stopped moving, and I asked him what was wrong. He faintly answered “This is exactly what happened before.” . At first I wondered what happened, then I noticed. Whatever had happened last time had paralyzed him with fear- and most worryingly, he refused to tell B and I what had happened. I began to ask Joe what happened last time, but he stopped me. He said how the runes on the wall from before seemed different. As he leaned down, I noticed what he meant- there was more writing on the wall than last time. Just as I was pondering this, I saw something flit by one of the side passages. I said to him “Joe, we have to get out of here.” He didn’t respond, and seemed intrigued by the symbols, so I repeated “Joe, we have to get out of here NOW.”
He turned around, and a deep rumbling sound was heard from the passage that I saw the movement. My heart began to beat faster, and my urge to run away increasing, so Joe and I began to run back to the entrance- but Floyd’s tomb stopped us from having a quick escape, and the insanity of the situation began to sink in. We were in an unexplored passage a mile below the earth, alone, with no form of communication, and we knew that a large creature lived here. Something from this cave had followed us out, and began to slowly cripple us psychologically. Then I noticed- This is how whatever it is hunts. How it weakens it’s prey, and eventually strikes, and we had just walked straight into it’s trap.
I lost all rationality, and only one thing was on my mind; Escape. Fast. I bolted back into the main room, with Joe close behind me. I hear him yell “What the hell is THAT?”, and I notice a large shape emerging from the hole I heard the noise from. I loaded a few bullets into my revolver, but I moved too fast, and my hands were shaking, so I dropped all but two of the bullets. I loaded both of those, and fired at the objet. The first one halted its advance, and the second one pushed it back- but not by far. We had to get out of here as fast as possible. I took the passage to the right, and Joe lost me for a second, because of his weak flashlight. I called out his name, and he re-gathered his bearings and followed. The passageway was only around 10 feet high, and 4 feet wide, with many rocks in the way to prevent us from making fast progress, so I threw my gun down one of the other passages to buy us some time. The smell was still there, but the rumbling began to fade away. We continued down the passage for awhile, when we came to a fork in the path. We decided to go through the one on the right.
On the walls of the cave, there were more runes, but as we progressed, they began to take a more distinct form- people, pottery, every day objects, and pets. As we carried on, it appeared to tell a story of day to day life, with each section marked with what appeared to be a numeral; Going hunting, weaving, cooking, and playing games. It repeated, with variations for the seasons. However, each time it reached a certain numeral, every person in the depictions seemed depressed, and the subsequent panel, they seemed abundantly happy- playing games, and having large celebrations. Eventually, we reached a mark where the two numerals were the same- they were both the largest numbers in the repeating set, which we were guessing was their equivalent to 9. On that month, it began with everyone looking very sad. As the image went on, it began to show people being put into carts, and driven off. The next section of the image, the people that went away in the carts weren’t there any more. The last part of the image showed all of the people gathered in the carts being forced to enter a cave, and they didn’t come out.
Further on in the depiction, it showed the people walking into the cave, with the darkness eventually completely engulfing them, then a large stone door being closed at the entrance to the cave. As the depiction grew darker and darker to signify the darkness of the cave. At the end, there were a pair of glowing eyes- then nothing. That was it. That was the end. The cave went on, and eventually got wider, with the smell of rotting flesh growing, until we emerged in a rather large cavern, where we couldn’t see the ceiling, or the back wall- the room was enormous. I got a bad feeling from the room, so went back the way we came, and tried the passage on the left. When we reached the end of the passage way, I noticed something. The wall appeared to be mostly flat, and at the edges there seemed to be some sort of primitive mortar, made out of gravel, stone dust, and water. I began wondering what it could mean, when it hits me- This is the door in the mural. The mural depicts to those who walk in here what they are doing here- the fact that they are a sacrifice to whatever this beast is. We had just walked into it’s den- where it retreats to, and where it lives.
It must have been getting out through the hole we made, and capturing passerby. That would describe the smell, at least. I turn around to tell Joe this, but he isn’t there. In fact, I hadn't heard him in awhile. I call out, only to get no response. I began running back down the hall, and take the path to the right, calling out his name the whole time. As I emerge into the room and see nothing, I heard a Huge crashing sound, followed by the rumbling from before- a boulder had just fell over the entrance, and whatever it was had captured me using Joe as bait. I began sprinting through the room, the smell getting worse as I get closer to the center. The rumbling was following behind me, and it was gaining. I trip on something, and fall square on my face. Heaving from the exertion, I look at what tripped me- it was what appeared to be a white rock. On closer inspection, I noticed that it was a human skull. Terrified, I turned back around to face the rumbling that had been growing louder since I tripped- It hit me hard, and I blacked out.
I recently awoke in what appears to be the same chamber, where the creature lives. There’s fresh blood all around me, and I can’t find Joe anywhere. It slashed my ankles, so I can’t escape- I am completely trapped. I am writing this now, before the creature returns, to warn anyone of creatures like this. Never put yourself into a situation in a cave where you can’t easily get out. If there are unexplained occurrences, get out as fast as you can. Most importantly, never, under ANY circumsta

OT:Candle Cove was scary.
It was an interesting read, i'll give it that. The whole half-hour-of-static dealio makes me imagine that the transmissions weren't to the TV, but instead THROUGH the TV and into the mind. It'd be an interesting concept, transmitting a TV signal directly to one's brain.

The pink glowing one is the strangest. I hadn't noticed these looking at the photo when I had just taken it with my iPhone. They appear in both the normal and the HDR version, so they probably aren't light artifacts (HDR would get rid of those).
