I think the circumcision debate is the second biggest expression of male insecurity in the world, right next to Ryugyong Hotel vs. The Stamford
I think the problem lies with the fact that while it is (and should be) a personal choice, by the time you are mature enough to make such a choice it becomes much more painful/embarrassing. Having the foreskin removed when you are a baby or 5-6 years old is nothing compared to getting it removed when you are 18+, it must be hell. Another point to consider is the cultural aspect of it, apart from religion. In cultures where circumcision is normal and expected, it is a rite of passage and the families are expected to go through with it. It might seem odd, but if you are not part of the culture, who are you to judge it? And if you are part of the culture and have valid criticisms, you are allowed to not go through with the tradition and perhaps risk being gossiped about or shunned. I know this is not a fair choice, but that is the circumstance. Honestly I can't see what this debate is about. If you are uncircumcised and are from a non-circumcision background you basically have very little say in this since you cannot fully grasp the social and cultural aspects of the process. If you are uncircumcised and are from a circumcision background, your parents either decided you should have a choice or something else happened. You might have been ostracised for that decision, but again it has no bearing on the issue of circumcision anyway. If you are circumcised, regardless of background, it is too late anyway. If you feel very strongly about it, you are perfectly within your rights to not have your kids circumcised and leave the choice up to them, but that does not give you the right to be self-righteous about other cultures and beliefs.

I believe that circumcision should be decided when they are born. It will hurt a lot less than when they are older. Plus when you are circumcised it is easier to clean your dick. I am not Jewish, but I am circumcised due to it being more hygienic.

Washing your dick is really not that difficult.
For myself, I got myself cut. There was no medical necessity, I think with the age of 17 it was. (And yes the procedure itself was no problem as you get narcotics in the hospital, but the 4 weeks after... ) I really have to say, I actually prefer it the way it is now, but I can only say this because I know both stances now. The point is: I MADE THE DECISION because I wanted it. It is, in my opinion, totally wrong to force circumcision onto people. Let them do it if they want to, but please... this is sick o_o
Well then, I think I will keep mine....
Circumcision shouldn't be forced on boys. But Circumcision does make it easier for men to pee or that's what I've heard. Though another idea is to have humans to be genetically modified and evolve without foreskin on their penis.

At least thats how i would imagine it. Although the genetic modification thing wouldnt really solve anything in the debate, except bring arguments M against GM to the argument.
Regarding how difficult it is to wash, unless you have some problem with your foreskin retracting, it is exactly the same amount of effort, in both uncircumcised and circumcised, bar a half a second of pulling.
It's hard to fap fap fap after circumcision and your feelings are weaker.
It's hard to fap fap fap after circumcision and your feelings are weaker.
It really isn't that hard to jerk it, but I wouldn't doubt the sensation isn't as strong.
You just pull back the foreskin when you pee. At least thats how i would imagine it.
Yep. The foreskin is a pretty sensitive area too (in a good way, I mean) so people who get circumcised do miss out a little bit. Only real downside that comes to mind is that its a bit tight when you are a child. Having to pull it back routinely to clean yourself and loosen it up over time is a bit of a bitch, but stops being a problem around 10 years old or so. As for doing circumcision it to babies, it probably shouldn't be done. There is no particularly good reason to do it at any point and it should probably be saved for later if people want/need it done. Some of you may not mind now that it was done, but the fact of the matter is that if you did mind, it wouldn't matter because its not like you had say in it when you were an infant. That's the point; infants have no say in the matter so it's not right to do it arbitrarily.
i agree that it should be the choice of the child at 18 whether to get circumcised unless there is a health issue. But there is a problem with the government attempting to regulate religious choices. And if the government could pass it then there would be the trouble of parents attempting to do it without a trained doctor to "save their childrens souls" or some crap like that.
Eh I never really had a choice even though I never got circumcised when I was a baby I was brought up from a religious family so I'll get one sooner or later since I was pretty religious back then(oddly enough I believed in evolution and thought gays were a-okay) and if I didn't,I would probably get ridiculed by everyone around me that are muslims(Majority of the people in my country are muslims) [editline]11th June 2012[/editline] Read up on the thread and it seems that I'm racist for not finding people with certain features that are common for a certain race sexually attractive oh lord
oh dear we have two of these threads
Lets see, you can be circumcised at birth; which is probably much easier, costs less, you wont remember it happening, you wont remember the feeling of it happening, and no one will think it is odd. Or you can get it when you are 16 or 17; it probably costs a lot (ANY kind of surgery will NEVER be cheap), take a while to heal, might have to change lifestyle for a few weeks while it heals, you will remember that it happened (might be bad), and I don't know how they perform the surgery, but you could feel some extreme discomfort (once again, being put under during surgery also costs a lot)
Or you can just not get circumcised at all?
The context of my post is assuming that you will get a circumcision.
This thread is about for and against circumcision, not when.
Wait what is this about not being able to retract foreskin being bad
my mofer told me too put my fourscin in the bin but i put it in a jar on my shelth

Why is foreskin such a debated topic on Facepunch? I mean seriously. Let each person decide if they want to cut their kid's dick or not on their own, I didn't think it was possible to have 14 pages about it.

Late post, but where is your authority to decide what should and shouldn't happen to someone else's child? This is almost as much of a vicious cycle as the abortion debate. People are going to continually want to end the practice of it, and those people are the ones that should be worrying about themselves. Neither the general public nor the government should have any say in what happens to someone else when it comes to something like this.

It's a safe and regular procedure! I'm really not going to get into it, but I didn't say anything about it being completely safe. If you want to argue that point, I can think of a lot of common medical practices that aren't necessarily safe. I'm just saying that you shouldn't be dictating what happens to other people in general.

Including the parents, if it gives no benefits and can fuck up their genitalia forever.
