• I'm horribly scared of the dark- How do I overcome this?

You decide to pull an all-nighter and play some of your old games one day.As you play the night grows darker and deeper. You think to yourself "nothing's there," but it doesn't really help. You then hear a click and shuffling. You stop for a second, tensing up, afraid of what might be after you. A murderer? Thief? However, after nothing happens you go back to playing. Then you hear it again, coming from the door behind you. You turn and see an abomination, some sort of demon, make its way through the door. It stares at you, acidic saliva dripping from its open fanged mouth, hands covered in huge claws. It then says, "PASS ME THE CONTROLLER BRO"
Did you ever see one of those videos where you are asked to look for, or follow, a specific thing through out the video? Then, at the end, they reveal that as you were watching, something large and intrusive moved around in plain sight and you never even noticed it. It’s frightening how often that happens, like how I just moved from the doorway into your room as you read this.
Get ready to punch the first thing you see.
Isn't that what 99% of the kids in those horror movies do before they get chopped up?
That's because horror movies have an internal message of "don't do bad things". If you think about it the slut dies and the innocent live in teenage slashers. [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] Oh and OP, just get pissed at how scared you are and get a "fuck you fear" attitude. Just sit in the dark and listen to peaceful music. Or get a low-light ambient dimmer light, set it on a lower setting every night you go to bed, until finally it's dark and you aren't scared anymore. Because seriously, why be afraid of the dark? It's not like demons and so on feed off the darkness, if they were coming for you then they'd come for you in the light. Don't worry, nothing is going to get you. No one has a reason to murder you, and even if you do believe in super natural forces of evil, really, why in fucks name would they mess with you. Most likely you're some random teenage guy. They have a couple billion other of the earths inhabitants to choose from.

Grow up, you're not 9 anymore.

I have two suggestions. One is a general fear cure, the other is darkness-specific. First, learn to navigate blindly. Start by doing it in the middle of the day - close your eyes completely, blindfolded if possible, and walk from one end of the house to the other. Do that until you can navigate at normal walking speed without sight. Eventually, you'll memorize the details of your house; I've found that when you know what's there, you're less afraid. And then there's my general solution. Whenever you're afraid, or timid, or shy, or just a fucking pansy, you need to ask yourself one question: What would Batman do?
grow some balls faget
Enter the dark. Overcome your fear. Do ánything in the dark, and keep doing more of it until you're like "fuck the dark" and light starts coming from you because of your sudden confidence. [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] otherwise, wait 40 minutes for your eyes to adapt to minimal lighting conditions and put one of those bert&ernie orange sleeping lights that allow you to see in the dark

Tell your dad to get his own fucking apples. And I'm terrified of the dark.
Everyone I know has a maid. Why?
Does your maid have a maid?
I was scared of the dark when I was like 12, all I did was imagine the room with lights on and it helped me calm down and I thought of Positive things.
embrace his fears become one with the darkness
exactly.
I'd post a picture of smile dog but the bans for being an ass are increasing.
Thank you for not doing that.
Sleep with one of these guys in your room. He'll keep you safe.
I become extremely paranoid when in the dark. Only way to overcome it is to either force yourself to believe otherwise, or to slowly find more and more safety in the dark, by waiting with getting something done till the room/area's dark.
I'm 19 and I'm still not comfortable in the dark. I like to have my back to the wall when it's dark and I become super sensitive to sound. I'm not scared of the dark, I can sleep in it fine, I can walk around a dark house. But I never feel comfortable when it's so dark that I can't see. I'm not sure why that is.
Here's another solution. Whenever you find yourself imagining monsters and such everywhere you can't see, force yourself to imagine hot naked chicks there (or dudes, if that's how you roll). The human mind can't feel both terror and horniness at the same time. Thus, problem solved.
hire a night time maid to follow you around with a flashlight
Night light :downs:
Get a wife to hug you when your scared.
