You should probably go back and define the details and edges of the plane more within your texture. Also, add a spot light or something to the scene so you're not getting just one skylight providing the scene's lighting.

Also the brushed metal is way too big and VERY stand-out-ish.

Oshit! Duck for cover deez disagree ratinz shootin at uz liek crazi maen.
If you're going to rate a disagree at least post why. I provided useful tips that would help him better his texturing. What's to disagree with?
I would have no idea where to put another spot, it pretty much *always* affects the clouds. I might do another render though as I've just realised that the wings were one-sided and you cannot see them in that render.
Brushed Texture needs moar res. I don't do very much texturing and I under-estimated the scale.
Edit
I really liked how this turned out, and because I actually did make a rig for the whole thing and just rendered out a single frame, I might aswell render out the rest of the animation.

Just finished my new version!

Definitely an large improvement over the last, if I do say so myself. There might be some things I will still probably fix before final, though. Tell me what you think!
More content after I eat dinner.
...And finish the new content.
Looks really cool, although I wish I could see the shapes defined more. But that's a side effect of using toon shading. You loose depth perception as everything seems one shade.

I see what you mean (The black is mainly the problem, but I think I made it as gray as possible without making it look bad), although it isn't toon shaded. It's composite of a shadeless render and a normal render.
It softens the shadows.
That might be a good thing to have a 360 spin animation for so we can see all of the details on it.

Yeah, I was planning on doing that after I ate, but then I watched a movie, so maybe tomorrow.
APNG!

Oh, and since it was bitch to make the 98 frame seamless one that turned out too big to upload, you can download it from my mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=f18c66b74ed57f7dd2db6fb9a8902bda

Still not final, will post final renders later in the competition.
I started making a flying submarine (a plane that can go underwater) as portfolio project but I know I won't be able to finish it in time since I'm gonna send a week in Turkey soon.
About an hour worked on it and it's still very much a WIP mockup. I call it the "Flying Pig" :v:

Based on my earlier (also WIP :v:) sketch:
Here's what I'm working on, obviously still a work in progress. A very early texture job, going to add some detail to it later.

Just google "Spitfire texture" and use them :D

Oh dear god you saved as a jpg. It's making it much harder to see the cockpit in the second image and other details.
-I meant bad compression-
Uhh I'm pretty sure most of the images in this thread are in .jpg, mine included. It's not the format, it's the compression that matters.

Can't really defend that one at all. Especially seeing as I know about image compression. My mistake (again).
Rated myself dumb.

I think that should still be considered fair game.
noice
Meh, not sure if I'm going to try this competition. I'm fairly confident in my modeling abilities, and that I can model the plane, but I'm terrified of texturing. I might try, but I'm not sure yet.
I really suck at textures but w/e

Can I get a poly count on that?
:v:
My guess is, for around 2m of surface area, around 80,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. That is of course, considering that a single atom/electron cloud on the surface is a vertex.
Can I get a poly count on that?
:v:
1 poly.
Get it...? Because it's a it's a plane! :v:
:effort:
would that not be two polys because of tesselation?
