The europeans pull it off better than many of the American death metal bands though.
I don't know man. As a Swede, I'm immensely proud of our bands. Although with bands like Death, pretty much inventing the genre. And Cannibal Corpse defining it. It is kinda tough to beat. I mean, there's bands like Dying Fetus and Deicide.
I guess it is all up to taste. But there is no denial in that the USA made Death Metal what it is today.

Ya. They did make it what it is today. I respect them for that. I listen to many american death metal bands. I just prefer the european style.
Can anyone recommend some good melodeath? Bands I like a lot are Eluveitie and (old) Nightwish. I tend to like orchestral/folk elements in metal.
In Flames
At The Gates
Children of Bodom
I just can't get into Children of Bodom, no matter how many times I try. I mean for me, it sounds like a perfect mix considering it's Melodeath/Power Metal, I just don't like the vocals, at all.
Can anyone recommend some good melodeath? Bands I like a lot are Eluveitie and (old) Nightwish. I tend to like orchestral/folk elements in metal.
Ensiferum
Insomnium
Amorphis (for mikey :v:)
Dark Tranquility
Good starters.
Hey Dopey Trout, what kind of music does The Mission actually play?
Infact what do they all play
Like what genres of the music? Because it's all very, very vague.
The Mission is just a mix of pretty much every popular metal genre, nothing particularly out there or anything. I really wouldn't bother :v: Black Rose has a jukebox, so just pick and choose, same with the ground floor of Opium. The first floor of Opium is a DJ, pretty much the same as the Mission but a bit better and a fuck ton louder
I think In Flames works as a good starter also, it's how I got into it.
Ugh, ninja'd. That was in reply to Eluveitie / Faren.
American bands Are usually in the metalcore range, we need some American melodeath bands
You'll find that most metal styles originated in Europe.
America had a pretty big thrash metal scene (which might have technically originated from there), and glam metal (also American) and traditional heavy metal was once quite popular. Other than that, not much else was/is big there. What's "big" now in the US is probably stuff like nu-metal and metalcore.
Yeah...over here you're lucky if the "cool kids" like metalcore. If you're unlucky, it's shit like Attack Attack or 50 cent or t-pain...
It truly saddens me how many people I'm grouped together with as an American who listen to such piss-awful music.

Nightwish never was, nor will they ever be, melodeath.
Just throwing that out there.
But some more melodeath to look into would be something like Ensiferum, Wintersun, and Into Eternity.

Ask, and you shall receive.

(In my opinion, the above two sound very similar; could have sworn the Arsis song was an The Absence song at first, when I first heard it. :v:)

Arsis are an amazing band.
As the op, I want you to shower above poster with hearts

And it's funny because Arsis is my least favorite of the four.
Only reason I remembered them is because I instantly though of The Absence, and I recalled how Arsis sounded eerily similar to The Absence (and were also American), so I decided to post both of them.

Each to his own.
Those bands definitely have an American sound, if you know what I mean. :v:
Any Gothenburg influenced American bands?
Burning The Masses. Seeing them in about a week;)
Any Gothenburg influenced American bands?
All That Remains.
They are now Metalcore :smith:
Also, because they have not been posted here before, and they're godfuck amazing:

They still make very melodic music. And were influenced by Dark Tranquility and In Flames.
They are now Metalcore :smith:
Don't let labels scare you away. I don't even listen to metalcore and actually find All That Remains to be pretty good.
Most people in this thread have non-biased views towards most music so you can take their word that something sounds good.
Hmm, Listening right now to All That Remains. Honestly, It doesn't sound shitty. Not bad.
Learning The Jester Race on my drums. I like this song. Awesome drum beat in it and it's really groovy.
Play it and record it, I need a backing track
Bump for great resurrection!
So what do you guys think of Another Perfect Day or Embryo?

Also, how do you guys find new bands, anyways? Am I the only one who goes to the Encyclopaedia Metallum and use advanced search to set up some specific criteria, and then go through bands and listen to see what all is good or not?
I think last.fm is a good way to find new bands.
Also, anyone heard of Mnemic? They're not straight out melodeath, they're more industrial metal, they're very Sybreed without the cyber elements. Pretty damn awesome

They're also one of James Hetfield's favourite bands
I can't stand Mnemic.
One of the things that always irritates me is whenever I ask for more bands like Sybreed, people always say "Definitely listen to Mnemic and Dagoba! They're just like Sybreed!"
No they're not. They're nothing like Sybreed, and I don't much care for either of them.
And speaking of James...
I would say they sound like em
The new stuff doesn't really. But the old stuff with Michael sounded sybreed-y. Similar instrumentals, VERY similar vocals. The instrumentals weren't so djent-y as Sybreed, and they don't have a futuristic sound but they used to be quite similar.

New stuff is meh.
