Revived By Mighty Odin?
Don't particularly want to scroll through the whole thread trying every video, so. Could anyone recommend any Melodeath with similar vocals to Amon Amarth? I love how clear (at least, to me) they are.
View YouTUBE video http://youtube.com/watch?v=YQhoFlyVYZs Indeed.
This is fucking awesome. I don't know why they bother having a keyboardist that does so little in the music, though.
Hey guys, while we're here, can anyone recommend any good melodic techdeath? By good I mean their songs aren't mostly pointless shredding, obnoxious blast beats, stupidly fast tempos, extremely repetitive, or use sub-par vocals that feel like they were thrown in as an afterthought. (I'm looking at you, Arsis.) The only good melodic techdeath that I have so far are Allegaeon, Divinity, Codeon, and questionably the Absence, all linked below, respectively. Bonus points if they're groovy as all shit, like Allegaeon or Decapitated (not melodeath, but still groovy as fuck; at least Invisible Control is). Basically, when I use the term techdeath, I mean relatively fast-paced and hectic, but with order and melody (hence "melodic"), and preferably using nontraditional structure in their songs or riffs (like Divinity). I suppose you could say I'm looking for melodic death/thrash, too, but, I consider that to be more like The Fading, which I still love, isn't what I'm really looking for at the moment. :buddy:
Ok I not sure but can this bands do for you? (you probly heard from this bands before) (posted this before) I would post more but I'm in a rush..will get back later and also check out Blood Mason..I would post a link but I couldnt find their songs in youtube.
I've heard of Quo Vadis, in passing, but never gave them the listen because of their being labelled "technical death metal." I've had a multitude of ventures into that, which have always resulted in what I described above (Arsis ), so I've stayed away from that label unless its preceded by "melodic" or "progressive." Just from the first 5 seconds of Silence Calls the Storm, I already like it. Currently at 1:30 and still listening. So far this is exactly what I want. Yeah, this is great. Thanks, Swamplord.

Oh, I didn't realize you posted other bands. I looked at the first three links and assumed they were all Quo Vadis. I'll be sure to look at the others when I get back in two hours. :buddy: Also, isn't Miseration one of Alvestam's many projects? :v:
Yup it is but its more technical than Scar Symmetry although still keeping the melodic behind it.The Raw death metal sound can still be heard sometimes. Edit: Now that I sort of know what you are looking for you might want to check out this band

I'll throw it up in here. I found this when listening to raintime station on pandora. The first half of this song IS AMAZZZZZZZZZZING. The second half is mediocre and so is the singer imo. But fucking awesome first half of the sound. [editline]09:40PM[/editline] Might be a tall order, but I'm always looking for melodic dm bands. Any one know of a band with really catchy riffs with a heavy keyboard influence?
I didn't see Amon Amarth in the OP, and I'm not going to read through everyone's posts... so I'm gonna post this assuming no one else has mentioned this band. Great sound. I have all of their albums, and I absolutely love their album Twilight of the Thunder God. Here's "Live For The Kill" off that album. Short/melodic/epic solo at 2:31-2:57. You can skip right to it or you can listen to the song, get into the music, THEN listen to the solo and it will sound even better.
dont know if this band has been posted, but dark lunacy are pretty good its a fan video for the song.
Amon Amarth are one of the biggest bands in the genre. Like every melodeath fan knows them. But yeah their latest album is great. Not so keen on anything before that though. Still good but not great.
Reminds me that I need to put Amon Amarth in the OP also
dont know if this band has been posted, but dark lunacy are pretty good its a fan video for the song.
I'm pretty certain that song you posted is not Dark Lunacy. Here's some actual Dark Lunacy. Just got the album a day or so ago, and I am not regretting it one bit:
I fixed OP
snip (I was wrong)
it is dark lunacy, its off their album devoid. Proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devoid
Dude I think you posted the wrong link... anyway one of my favourites by them

Revive for Mighty Stalin
Carcass rock. They're known and credited mostly for releasing the first ever straight out melodic death metal album. Their second melodeath holds a lot of rock sound to it, so I think it's death n' roll as well as melodeath. Also their third album was a death metal/grindcore album but really I think it has a huge melodeath influence already, way back in 91. The vocals are a lot like Jari maenpaa of Ensiferum/Wintersun. But they also remind me of Angela of Arch Enemy.
I like the sound of some melo death, but I really, really despise the lyrics and the way they all try to act so tough. And the long hair.
It's melodic and it's death. What?
It may sound like an oxymoron if you've never heard of the genre (and obviously know very little about death metal honestly) It all has melody and rhythm etc, melodeath just focuses more on melody than brutality. Compare this, a textbook straight out death metal track To this, a textbook melodic death metal track Really I often don't associate the two. Unless it's something like Insomnium, Be'lakor, bands like that. Which sound like this: Definitely death metal, but far less heavy. More rhythmic and melodic (as is obvious from the genre name), but it still incorporates plenty death metal aspects. Even then it's still far from straight out death metal.
I like the sound of some melo death, but I really, really despise the lyrics and the way they all try to act so tough. And the long hair.
Rappers pretending to be tough is more pathetic. But I disgress, it comes with the genre, so just ignore it. Music > the looks.
