I have new albums to buy, too, when they come out. Both Devanic and Souldrainer are in the process of recording their new albums. If I recall correctly, Blind Stare is, too. All of them are predicted to come out sometime in 2011, if I recall correctly. :neckbeard: Samples from the new albums from each band, for anyone interested: Devanic's MySpace (No YouTube videos of the two new songs; they're the first two in the media player. They're not finished quality, and iirc, they're not intended to actually be in the new album. I think they were songs they decided to throw out at the end.) Souldrainer Bass Report (The songs sound fucking amazing.) Ok, I'm back, So I saw Orphaned land, Swallow the Sun and Katatonia, they were awesome, I met Orphaned land, they were nice.
Gonna post some of the absolute roots of melodeath. And by that, I don't mean the first melodeath albums, I mean the first albums which would have been direct influences on melodeath. Entombed's first album, Left Hand Path is probably the earliest precursor of genuine melodeath. This was way back in 1990, when ever death metal itself was still finding its sound. This album was one which brought swedish death metal into the market. Another early melodeath album, Dismember's debut. Like An Ever Flowing Stream. 1991. Grave's second album. You'll Never See... probably my favourite of these 3. 1992. And At The Gates' first Ep, Garden of Grief. 1991. (This actually sounds a lot like Death's debut)
I love you, MikeyT
But you never mention Utumno's Across the Horizon EP and Necrophobic's The Nocturnal Silence :comeback: and Grotesque's Incantation EP
Necrophobic were 1993 tho I was going ~right to the roots~ [editline]07:00PM[/editline] Also I may have posted this band here before. But I don't think so. System Shock. Cool stuff.
Necrophobic were 1993 tho I was going ~right to the roots~
True but they still were actually one of the roots..how about Grotesque? they were really right to the roots. Also some, if not most, of Necrophobic material were from their previous 1991 demo and from another EP which they put it into the 1993's album.Same goes for Utumno.I know you were going right to the roots, how about Ceremonial Oath? ok maybe they have no place in here but their stuff were really MDM.I pretty sure most of their materials comes from 1991-1993 except maybe for their most listened album which was released arnd 1995
Also I may have posted this band here before. But I don't think so. System Shock. Cool stuff.
Nice but I would appreciate if they had a better quality though..or is the youtube fault?
Not sure if it's youtube or not, I thought the same thing. MAN, is there anything that Jari touched which isn't absolutely incredible? Just learnt of this band just now. Jari did guitars and cleans in it, although the harsh sounds a lot like him. They're melodic black metal but I think they can go here anyway. They sound a lot like Wintersun. [editline]11:49PM[/editline] Also have some Niilo Sevanen stuff, before he was in insomnium [editline]12:24AM[/editline] Excrecor, cool unknown melodeath band. Just found them.
Time for some Hypocrisy
Soilwork are pretty good. Really generic melodeath if you ask me though.
Seeing Dark Tranquillity and insomnium live tomorrow night
Lucky Bastard
Christ. Why do none of these bands come to Australia except for Soundwave?
Lucky Bastard
I second that
Norther is, Bodom is more like power metal with growls if you ask me. Also Petri got kicked out of Norther, which is when he joined Ensiferum. I have to say, Ensiferum puts on a fucking incredible show; if you ever get the chance to see them, TAKE IT.
Saw them a couple of weeks ago at Bloodstock They were one of the best bands on the Friday for sure
fuck you you went to Bloodstock tried as hard as I could to go to that but my mum fucking booked tickets for a holiday resort DURING BLOODSTOCK And she said she couldn't afford to go to it when the holiday resort cost like 3 times as much to go per person. (5 people, and there would only actually be 3 at bloodstock. Me, stepbro and stepdad)

Thankfully I haven't had that problem yet...unless a really good band comes through New York halfway through August this year. Which I really hope does not happen. I HAVE, however, missed Megadeth/Slayer+Testament, Vader, Kamelot, Iced Earth, and now Megadeth/Slayer+Anthrax because of a god damn car accident, though.
Is The Black Dahlia Murder melodeath?

They're deathcore. Well I think the problem they have is that they combine hardcore/blackened thrash into At The Gates/Carcass style melodeath so they end up with a core sound, even though the band themselves are not at all into the core scene. They're very much death metallers. [editline]08:24PM[/editline] Still they're a fucking amazing band.
I happened to stumble upon this thread and damn this is awesome
Saw them a couple of weeks ago at Bloodstock They were one of the best bands on the Friday for sure
Saw Ensiferum live at vagos open air as well, petri had some amp problems but other than that they are fucking amazing. (the lineup was, day 1: prayers of sanity, Gwidion, Ensiferum, My Dying Bride and Messhuggah, 2nd day the headlines were amorphis, kamelot and carcass) also, just got back from DT/Insomnium, with a signed copy of insomnium's new album and with a picture with their guitarrist, and one with michael stanne, a very good day today was.
I havnt had the chance to go through buthave we had Skyfire? they can be pretty diverse IMO for a melodic death metal band but theyre still amazing Uncloud the Sky: amazing song first line is "Where is the sun? I hope its gone" lol Bleed through me, Bleed for me, Die for me: Shapes of insanity: Under a Pitch Black Sky Legacy of the Defeated

I don't recognize Follow the Flame. Have BoG finally gotten off their asses and released their new album? (They said they were "finishing up production" like, January of '09, and then just fell completely silently). I'm checking out their MySpace right now. I'll listen to the others once all my homework is done (just saw BoG's "Swallow the Sun," thought "fuck yes", then saw a song I never recognized, with album art I don't recognize).
