The Black Dahlia Murder are one of my favourite bands Fucking amazing shit
Guys I found the new ENsiferum :3: Frosttide, good stuff. Their vocals aren't amazing, too deep and not powerful enough for the style but still good. Sounds like Amorphis' second album quite a bit too.
Mind = blown

Holy shit guys. I actually have content. I present to you a new Finnish supergroup, composing of members from bands such as Swallow the Sun, Moonsorrow, Kreator, and Amorphis: Barren Earth These guys are amazing. I can't find a single fault. The bass is absolutely amazing, too. An interesting mix of melodeath with '70s prog. I definitely recommend a listen. Curse of the Red River I think has been brought up before in this thread. If it hasn't then fuck, because I own it and it's AMAZING

Bands I've found separate from this thread: Amorphis Insomnium Bands I've found through this thread: Scar Symmetry Solution .45 Arch Enemy A DARK HALO Sybreed Black Comedy Dark Tranquillity (indirectly) Eluveitie This Ending (indirectly) Universum (indirectly) Mnemic This thread is incredibly useful.
It is a rather awesome thread. Also, Barren Earth are brilliant I love their doomy feel. And I agree with Eluveitie when I say Gmod4Ever is a great poster Music forum definitely has the best posters. Very very few trolls, educated people with whom we have educated discussions and all that, it's rare outside this forum. [editline]1st November 2010[/editline] also yeah i posted barren earth before But not that album, it was the other with the doll on it. I love their vocals, they remind me of Septic Flesh in their full demonic sort of sound, and Amorphis due to how deep it is but not in a guttural way. The cleans remind me of Swallow the Sun's style, as well as middle Amorphis. They have at least two amorphis members so their stoner doom melodeath sound does not go unexpected, as well as the keyboards (Keyboardist I know is ex amorphis) sounding very pre-2001 amorphis. I'm mentioning stoner because I find the bass and clean sessions to fit that style. Tuonela was also a pretty stoner album
When I leave home and get a decent job, I'm buying many albums I've heard through this thread because I really want them but can't have them at the moment, so I'm going to get them and listen to them and tell people about them so that good music becomes dominant in the world and everyone loves it. Yeah, I'm dreaming, but this music does that for me.
o ye On a huge tbdm binge right now. Seriously love them, so want to see them live.
I still don't consider TBDM to be melodic death metal. Regardless of their genre, I don't like them. And I find that "MDM Legends" on that card appalling. They don't deserve to be in that category. That category is reserved for the likes of Scar Symmetry or Dark Tranquility. :colbert:
I too find their status as Melodeath arguable, on later releases at least. Their debut was a definite At The Gates tribute album Very similar stuff. That album is a definite straightout old school melodeath revival. Their last two albums are more thrash/black metal influenced and this sort of led to their deathcore label, but I still think they're at least partly melodeath. But whether they're melodeath or death metal or deathcore or whatever I don't really care, they're a fucking awesome band in my eyes.
just because most mdm sounds excactly the same doesnt mean a band has to in order to be mdm
Unhallowed is THE SHIT

I still consider In Flames melodeath even though they have a shitload of alternative influences. It's all taste.
Went to see Soilwork in Sydney recently. I'm pissed that I didn't know who was playing with them in Melbourne and Adelaide sooner - Universum are a local band (well, Melbourne, it's a decent twelve hour train ride or short flight from my home but still) and I've been a fan of theirs for a while. I would have loved to take a trip down there for a few days, see two of my favourite bands, etc etc. Rant aside, I've never been concrete-sure about what is and isn't melodeath but there's a few bands I've been listening to recently that I feel fit the bill. First up and as mentioned previously, Universum: Ignite the Subconscious off the Leto Destinatus album - with guest solo from Tomy Laisto of Mors Principium Est. The title track, Leto Destinatus. Christian Alvestam is also doing guest vocals for Mortuus Machina, due out in December. Second band I feel worthy of mention is Diablo. God dammit, Finland. The vocals are clear - not really growls, but they're still aggressive. Singer bears a passing resemblance to Hetfield. Title track of their most recent album, Icaros. If you like any part of this song, go and listen to every other song on the whole album (specifically Into the Sea). It's all amazing. Angel, off Renaissance. The style on Icaros is a lot different to their older music, but I still love it all. Read My Scars off Eternium. Admire the way in which the drummer simply does not give a shit. And something unrelated - My Immortal Guardian by The Sorrow. This is the only band from Austria I've ever heard of, and among people I know they've had a mixed reception (half love them and the other half hate them) so I figure I'll just throw it out there. This would have to be my favorite song from them, the raw feeling of the kicks in the very beginning is just so good. Sorry in advance if any of these have been mentioned. :downs:
SOILWORK WERE IN SYDNEY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????!AAaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Universum are the shit. I can't wait for Mortuus Machina. Especially since Christian is doing guest vocals for about half of the songs. :v: Also, obligatory Universum/Alvestam video: "Okay, this is for you guys, from Austria..alia..." "I skipped the lead vocals and instead, we replaced it with some didgeridoo. We have tuned it down, the, err, didgeridoos, so it's much more death-metal oriented." Then cue some bad Schwarzenegger impersonations. I love Christian. :v:
just because most mdm sounds excactly the same doesnt mean a band has to in order to be mdm
Yeah so much mdm is all generic (In flames, Dark Tranquillity, Scar Symmetry (although their more modern sound is good), CoB, Norther) they're all very similar. One of the reasons I love tbdm is because they're unique. Trevor is one of my favourite vocalist ever, such an AWESOME voice.
Sharing some love for some lesser-known bands:

That is true yeah.
Would this be considered melodic death? A Cannibal Crusade by Path of Golconda
Most definitely, Jamacan. Path of Golconda are fucking awesome. I love PoG's Threshold. Return is pretty good, too, but I consider Threshold their magnum opus. :swoon:
So I went on a spree and found a lot of new melodeath bands. Check 'em out; I like 'em, anyways. Distorted Cipher System Dusks Embrace Deals Death Lyr Drowning Kiana L.O.S.T. Neuraxis Lunarsea Enjoy.
O ye, Amorphis concert tonight :smug:
Be sure to not take any videos so I don't have to come to Europe and beat the shit out of you for rubbing the SHEER LEVEL OF AWESOME in my face.
