Usually In Flames fans are divided over loving either the "new stuff" or "old stuff", so I dunno if I'll get shit on, but I love it all. In fact, A Sense Of Purpose is my favorite album by them. Although I listen to all of their songs almost all their stuff equally (I just put their discography on shuffle and enjoy)
Anyone listened to the Used and Abused show? I bought the DVD and although I haven't watched it yet I've listened to the audio CD like 20 times now, it's amazing, they are so good live.
Oh and I've seen them twice and I caught Jesper's pick at one of the shows. Too bad Jesper left, I know he had his problems with alcohol but when I saw them in in late 2009 he was rocking the stage so hard, he was definitely the strongest I've seen him in ages - he didn't look bored or troubled at all. I was really shocked when I heard he decided to leave, I thought he was the strongest he's been in ages.
I agree with you 100% this is so true I haven't seen them personally, almost caught them with CoB and Megadeth on Gigantour Im still kicking myself for not going to that.

I agree with you. The new stuff is good for people who were never really into melodic death metal, but that doesn't make it worse.
Yeah, start off with the shitty new albums and then you'll really appreciate the older ones.
The new ones aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Sure they moved away from the style of their earlier albums, but they still managed to make great music. And Come Clarity is probably their second best album behind The Jester Race.

please get your head out of your ass and accept that people might have different opinions then you.
thanks.
Melodeath is fucking amazing. Favorites are probably Norther, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, and Wintersun. I haven't actually listened to that much of Children of Bodom (yet) even though they're like, the largest melodeath/power act out there. Can anyone recommend an album to start?

That's probably because they're symphonic black metal, bro.

I haven't really listened to CoB's earlier albums, but I enjoyed Blooddrunk.
I used to listen to alot of melodeath when I was younger.
Arch Enemy
In Flames
At the Gates
Children of Bodom
Amon Amarth
Dethklok (lol)
Heaven Shall Burn
Falchion
Scar Symmetry
Soilwork
etcetc
The only good In Flames is old In Flames.

Their first two albums are black/melodeath/neoclassical. They're quite a bit different from their newer stuff

The first 5 seconds of that made me go "I'm definately listening to the whole song"
And I did. And it was good.
EDIT:
Last video on page one. New page. >.>
I think this counts.

I love early CoB. I saw them live a couple years ago and I was so happy that they played a lot of their older stuff. Their last few albums are meh.
<3 Something Wild and Hatebreeder. Great albums. Follow the Reaper was a bit too synthy but still good, Hate Crew Deathroll is just raw! Blooddrunk and that one before are not that good, sadly.
My favorite Bodom song is Lake Bodom.

The Jester Race is the best song out of those 4. It's riff is so damn awesome.
Is there any melodic death metal without that deadly voice? Or would that be a whole new genre, wich I didn't find yet?

It's a melodic death metal thread.
What did you expect?

Unfortunately, no. I know what you mean - I had the same wish for the intensity and awesomeness of melodic death metal with the harsh vocals. Unfortunately, I never found it.
The closest you can get is melodic death metal that uses a lot of clean vocals. However, that is exceptionally rare. I think the closest you'll get is Beyond the Embrace. While they do use harsh vocals, their harsh vocals are about as clean as you can get without being clean, and the clean vocals are... well... clean.
Give them a listen, see if they work for you.

Bonus Trivia: They have three guitarists.
Now this is a thread I enjoy.
Kalmah is one of my favorite bands.
also
Wintersun
Imperanon
Also Gothenburg, being a Swedish city is pronounced YUHT-eh-BOR-ey http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/Sv-G%C3%B6teborg.ogg
What do you guys think about Folk Metal, like Viking Metal/Celtic Metal/Pirate Metal? It's pretty close to Melodic Death Metal but with this awesome sound added to it, usually a bit less intense.
Example:
Ensiferum Please excuse the first 12 seconds of punk.
Eluveitie
korpiklaani
Alestorm

And one of my favorite Folk Metal songs,
Ensiferum-Wanderer
Listen to the whole thing you fuck.

Ensiferum and Eluveitie are so FUCKING GOOD HOLY FUCK I bloody love them.
This song's from the current vocalist, Petri Lindroos. He was in Norther as well but got kicked out last year.

Eluveitie is the best example of a Folk Metal band I've seen.
Also, there is no Dark Tranquillity in this thread.
