Generally I find that groove metal puts on more energetic shows than say, doom or melodeath.
Yeah I don't imagine doomy bands putting on a great show. I saw Katatonia live about what, 5-6 months ago and I was at the front stage and while they put on a good show performance wise it was pretty boring yeah. Good, but it got kind of dull, unlike the more energetic bands.
I too saw katatonia, they were awesome though, much better than Swallow the sun, live show wise.

This band sounds fucking amazing but I just can't get used to the vocalist.
Hey, I heard that Wintersun is making the soundtrack for HL2 Episode 3.
The band I was reminded of when I saw the "Melodic Death Metal" thread title. Came into this thread and saw your post.
Wintersun. It's pretty.. well, :v: It is what it is.
Have you heard of Ensiferum? I believe it has the same drummer and the vocalist. It's pretty cool too if you like the trolls-in-the-forest type deal, roleplaying music. It's also an older band.
I never really listen to this shit anymore, shame because I sometimes used to listen to them so much I remembered all the lyrics of some 20minute longass songs of Wintersun. Pretty ridiculous right? :v:
Also, as a reply to your quote above; I sure as fuck hope not.
Have you heard of Ensiferum? I believe it has the same drummer and the vocalist.
No it doesn't. It has the same vocalist. Jari Maeneepaa, can't remember last name.
It started as his side project, but he wanted more time to work on it but Ensiferum wouldn't let him so they kicked him out.
Maenpaa with weird symboly thingies :v:
And didn't he leave voluntarily?
Also he was Singer/guitarist for Ensiferum, and on Wintersun he was singing, guitar bass and keyboards/synths but now he's just guitar vox and keyboards cos he has a full band. Kai Hahto's done drums all the way.
Jari Mäenpää.
But yeah, I might as well listen to some Ensiferum on Spotify, if it's there. Just for the sakes of nostalgia
Edit Lai Lai Hei playing right now.. lol
Into Battle and Windrider are the best songs in my opinion.
I may have found one of the only new "melodic death metal" bands that actually sounds like melodic death metal. It's a German band called Akrea.

^
i dont think i can judge what sounds like melodic death metal and what doesnt. Dont know the roots of it.
Anyways, pretty good, sucks that they aren't singin english, since i cant understand lyrics.
And i really couldnt find any magic in that song.
Revive for Thor Odin's son, Protector of mankind

So yeah.
I just realized last night that Dark Tranquillity's name is spelled with two "L's".
I honestly never noticed this until last night. Would explain why I could never find their lyrics by searching "Dark Tranquility" in darklyrics, but searching it in Google brought up their lyrics page on darklyrics. :geno:

P sweet
Please don't tell me you just now found about Allegaeon. I've posted about them at least four times, if not in this thread, then in other metal-related threads.
Besides, while their EP is awesome, I like their full-length a lot more. I have the songs "Accelerated Evolution" and "Cosmic Question" memorized, and can't help but sing along to them whenever they come on.
Allegaeon
Only techdeath band I know that really makes an effort to stay melodic as well.
I had heard them before but I didn't know if they'd been posted here before :P
This could be in the category of Melodic Black Metal but who gives a flying fuck,

19-24 seconds is actually a fucking godly melodeath sounding riff. They actually write some fantastic melodeath style riffs in their songs.
We actually have a new demo online! Woo!
Maybe not 100% Melodeath. But still. :C

Good stuff man! Sound overall was surprisingly slick. Timing could have been a bit tighter and I think the vocals lacked conviction, but I have to say I was impressed. Have a winner :buddy:

You need a better quality mic, at least. otherwise, i liked it.
So I currently have Lunar Strain and the Jester Race and am getting into Melodic Death metal. Further recommendations? Gateway albums?
