Also Slania is a decent album to listen to. Has plenty of melodic death metal elements, but is overall folk.
So I currently have Lunar Strain and the Jester Race and am getting into Melodic Death metal. Further recommendations? Gateway albums?
Whoracle (In Flames), Slaughter of the Soul (At the Gates), A Bloodred Path (Gates of Ishtar), and Carpet (Ceremonial Oath).
I just have to post this:
You like a bit lesser known bands?
You like Christian Älvestams vocals?
Let me present to you a band I just found, and instantly fell in love with: The Few Against Many.
They've only released one album, and most songs are in Swedish, but just listen to this.

Bränd Mark (Burned Ground)

Blod (Blood)
Example of lyrics: Blod
Swedish:
Ingen framtid eller hopp, bara nu
Så länge blodet i dig slår
Omkring står olycka och Våld
Aldrig salighet någon kan nå
Sånt är allt Blodet mäkta på
English: (Google translate because I'm a lazy bastard, but as a native speaker of Swedish I can say that it's correct)
No future or hope, just now
As long as the blood in your beats
Some are accidents and violence
Never bliss one can achieve
That's all Blood mightily on

Holy. Shit. Blod was fucking brilliant. I am getting more of this band.
It's always bands from scandinavia that pull off this sound the best.

Symphonic Melodeath?
[editline]26th January 2011[/editline]
maybe more black metal actually
something is just wrong when two most popular music genres nowadays go like:
WopwopwopwopwopwopwopwopwopWUUUMwopwopwopwopw
And
Baby, Baby, Baby oohhhhhh
That Rhapsody of Fire song is amazing

Maybe the general musical audience likes simple and repetitive music that is, you know, easy ambient listening?
Let's be honest: not many people are as devoted to music as metal fans tend to be. I think that's something we forget a lot - not everyone is as intensively into music as we are, and as a consequence of us being so devoted to music, we prefer more unique elements in our music.

Great band, saw them live not long ago

but it just annoys the crap out of me when i have to hear it all the time in school.
because i dont like simple and repetitive music. :saddowns:
I really hope At the Gates will write new albums,I mean thats possible rite?
Nah, they have no interest in recording any new material, even if that would be awesome. They just want to have fun playing a few festivals.

Carry around an iPod filled with ever changing music. If they play it on the class radio, use the excuse, I get seizures when listen to this repetitive music.

That new Amon Amarth song...wow...can't wait for the album
Well guys, I haven't had much time to look for new bands, what with college and all, and this weekend was the first weekend in a while I've had entirely to myself - and it just so happens that the Encyclopaedia Metallum's search is down.
Just thought I'd give you guys an update that no, I am not dead/no longer searching for melodeath bands. I would love to be, but my tools for doing so are currently out of commission. Rest assured, once the Encyclopaedia Metallum's search comes back, and I have some spare time, I shall be posting new bands in this thread. :buddy:

Went looking, found another awesome song, not a huge fan of the vocal style, but this song is amazing anyway.

OH FUCK YES!
In Flames have a new album to be released sometime around May or June.
Sounds of a Playground Fading is the tenth studio album by melodic death metal band In Flames, set for release in May/June 2011.
So they finally named it.
They started recording it months ago. :v:
Sounds cool, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
