Ensiferum and Eluveitie are so FUCKING GOOD HOLY FUCK I bloody love them. This song's from the current vocalist, Petri Lindroos. He was in Norther as well but got kicked out last year.
You really love that song. Listen to Sword Chant, an awesome groove around 0:40. Good stuff.
Hell fucking yes COB. [editline]05:48AM[/editline]
I haven't really listened to CoB's earlier albums, but I enjoyed Blooddrunk.
Go listen to Silent Night, Bodom Night and Kissing the Shadows right now. Now.

I was under the impression Cermonial Oath were death metal. In Flames was formed because of Jesper Stromblad wanting to write music with a more melodic direction.

Eternal Tears of Sorrow is definitely one of my favourite melodeath bands.
The only thing that sucks about these bands is they rarely come to the US.

I started my own Melodeath band but the drummer hasn't even heard any Melodic Death Metal :smith: [editline]03:29AM[/editline] Also, Some Ceremonial Oath for you guys. This is the band that Anders Friden and Jesper Stromblad were in before Jesper formed In Flames. And going in the completely opposite direction of posting some of the more well-known acts of the genre, let's jump into some lesser-known stuff. Just to start off, here's a very cool "progressive" melodeath band I found, thanks to Encyclopaedia Metallum's new "random band" feature, whose debut released about two months ago, A Losing Season. (Lyrics) On the topic of awesome bands with debuts that just came out came in the past few months, we have Another Perfect Day (whose last release was an EP in 1997; this is their first full-length). So much. Favorite Ensiferum song EVER. And they didn't fucking play it when I finally saw them.
inb4 haterage I hate hate hate hate hate Children of Bodom's Bloodrunk album. I've been with them ever since Follow the Reaper and absolutely despise Bloodrunk.
inb4 haterage I hate hate hate hate hate Children of Bodom's Bloodrunk album. I've been with them ever since Follow the Reaper and absolutely despise Bloodrunk.
Why why why? It's amazing, I loved that album,
Ensiferum just wasn't the same when Jari left. And fucking hell Jari, we want the new Wintersun album! It's been 6 years!
Ensiferum just wasn't the same when Jari left. And fucking hell Jari, we want the new Wintersun album! It's been 6 years!
I'll be very disappointed if Time doesn't end world hunger and cure breast cancer.
I'll be very disappointed if Time doesn't end world hunger and cure breast cancer.
Shit it better cure AIDS while we're at it. God fuckit Jari how long does it take if you abandon touring to finish producing and mixing your "finished" album?
How about some Melodic Black Metal huh? Old Man's Child. Thats some mighty fine metal right there.
Yeah, I can't wait for Time to come out, I hear it has some Japanese folk influence.
Blooddrunk isn't very good tbqh. Looking out my Back Door is hilarious though :v I really prefer Hatebreeder out of their albums.
has there been any news on Time? (Wintersun's new album.) Jari said it's been finished for ages but HOW FUCKING LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MIX AND SHIT GODDAMN :colbert: If Time doesn't rid world hunger or cure AIDS or cancer or something then I will be severely dissapointed
Time better get me a girlfriend
Fuckkkk when his clean spoken blend into growls It is so fucking awesome The whole song is awesome The entire album is fucking amazing WINTERSUN RELEASE YOUR FUCKING ALBUM GODDAMN :frogc00l:
Oh man, That song is amazing 4 years to release an album that has been done? Holy shit.
Yeah, his debut's been worked on since 96, released in 04.
The reason why I´ve been and will continue to be "under the radar" is because I´ve needed to focus on the album 100% and needed to "get away from it all" until it´s finished. The reason why people are upset is because they can´t understand the situation from the outside. I´ve tried to explain it few times, but it seems that some people still don´t understand. This isn´t your "basic traditional metal album" or not even a "basic traditional orchestral metal album". Only way people can understand if they´ll come to my humble home studio and see/hear the projects/music for themselves. I have to make this album complitely the wrong way (the hard way) how orchestral albums like this should be made, because I´m a poor bastard. It takes weeks to make orchestrations and all the synths, samples and FX to one riff/part, because I can´t do it all in one project, in real time and in a big template. And a song could have 10-20 riffs/parts, so you get the picture why it is taking so long. Actually considering the circumstances I´ve worked quite fast.
Hmm, Looks Promising
Oh god that sounds so awesome. Made me long for it even more to be honest.
Okay, so I just listened to the Wintersun song, and I hate to say it, but am I the only one who wasn't impressed? For one, that song was extremely short (not even three minutes? Even A Losing Season's songs are longer than that, and they have some of the shortest songs I've ever seen for melodic death metal), and then it wasn't all that memorable. His vocals are nothing special, just some generic talking-cleans (in the beginning) and standard rasp-screams. The only thing about Wintersun that I really appreciate are the power-metal / majestic cleans, in songs like "Starchild." And that's just because I don't listen to many bands that mix power metal and melodic death metal's vocal departments. The vocals aren't unique but I don't know many people who listen to melodeath for the vocals in the first place. Additionally, people are fascinated with speed, which Wintersun have plenty of. I personally enjoy Wintersun quite a lot, but I'll definitely agree that they can be overrated and blown out of proportion at times.

I listen to melodeath exclusively because of the vocals. Well, vocals and lyrics - those are the two most important things to me in melodeath. Then comes the drumming (the more explosive the better), followed by the punctuality of the riffs. How dynamic the songs are also plays an important role, and is generally the maker/breaker. I understand that I'm of a rare breed, to listen to melodic death metal in its entirety. One of things I don't understand is how people can oppose multiple vocal styles in melodic death metal, though. Take for example, Odium. People call them a Soilwork clone, but I think they reach depths far beyond anything Soilwork could ever reach - instrumentally, vocally, and lyrically. Odium - Serenity's End I mean, you don't have to go any farther than the first 12 seconds of the song to hear what I mean: An extremely punctual riff over explosive drumming, and then a clean, drawling "You left me here to..." and then a high-pitched, eight-second-long "DIE!!!!" Odium's usage of extremely powerful and sorrowful clean vocals, growling rasps, and high-pitched shrieks is an ideal example of how melodic death metal should be done, in my opinion - the amount of emotion and power that can be expressed with a single vocal style simply pales in comparison to Odium's three. But then, again, I know I'm of a rare breed that listens to melodeath for the power of the composition, not just durr-hurr blastbeats.
