no such thing as a true fan because true fan implies there's such a thing as an untrue fan which is just ridiculous
also, anyone who argues that they're a "true" fan and others aren't because they don't like some songs or they don't have all their albums or whatever are clearly retards and honestly, for painful irony I can only consider them to be less of a fan because they're making it more about being elitist than liking the music
just sayin
Untrue fans don't exist? Untrue, as in false? False fans don't exist? Are you sure about that?
"Oh my God I love Judas Priest! I am such a huge fan!"
"Yeah? What's your favorite song?"
"Breaking the Law!"
"Oh, well, what's your second favorite song?"
"They have other songs?"
:v:
I suppose you could make the argument that it's not a "false" fan so much as an "uninformed" fan or "weak" fan. You could also make the argument that they may not be a fan of the band, but of the song, but I digress. To me at least that constitutes false fanhood. :v:
The thing is, why the fuck do people care about people saying they're fans of a band?
So they like one fucking song? Maybe they'll start listening to more and end up liking every album.
no I still don't agree with you
just because you've only heard one song doesn't mean you can't be a fan of the band. If you like the band's music, who's to say whether you're a fan or not? What's the cut-off?

This means subscribe to the Insomnium newsletter RIGHT FUCKING NOW.
I am already subscribed.
Oh neat, a new Nightrage. Tomas Lindberg does guest vocals on this one too.

So I have found myself often wondering, if vocals are not a defining characteristic of a genre (and they're widely agreed to not be), then why has no one ever really done melodic death metal with clean vocals?
Today, I found a band that tries just that. It's... interesting. Not necessarily bad, though not necessarily good. Just different. Give it a listen.

I decided to come back to check on my beloved MDM thread after a year of staying out of the music forum. Damn, I'm fucking surprised it's still up.
I thank everyone who's posted in this thread since I've left, I love you guys :zoid:.

I'll just drop this here.

With some lyrics, because they make Folky melodeath so much better.
For tomorrow until the bitter end
We'll stand as one, and rise to win
Our passion lies so deep
Weight of the world now at our feet
From the hands of glory
To the mercy of death
New memories begin
Along this road to redemption
Crossed the valleys and the seas
Aligned the stars towards a dream
This is where my road will end
but death and love go hand in hand
Whenever we shall lose our way
Know the gates of time forever wait
It's not what we do, but how we go
Lay to rest my weary soul
Stop to think, what have you done
You've lost your way my only son
Everyday we try our best
Only strong survive this test
We'll cross the line together
One love and bound forever
Walk on the edge of life
Give me back what's mine
Standing on these cold white winter plains
The wind is blowing cold
Forever fly so high
In agony I walk alone
Paths we walked, the places told
The only place I call my home
This road gets ever longer yet
So close but still so far from end
Nowhere's here and here I'll stay
The sacrifice I have to make
Will we ever meet again
Our road will never end, my friend

Scrolling through the new posts made me notice that you didn't mention Ghost Brigades new album: Until Fear No Longer Defines Us!
I'm listening to it right now, and it's great!

Unsung, the new Insomnium song, is out!
My review: Holy fuck, that is awesome!

I finally got enough new melodeath bands to be able to make the fourth installment to my "15 Melodic Death Metal Bands (You've Probably Never Heard Of)" series.
Enjoy!

Where Dead Skies Dwell by Euphoreon sounds pretty rad. Can't see how I could've missed that when listening to their album for the first time.
[editline]3rd September 2011[/editline]
And doesn't In Flames have a song called Where Dead Ships Dwell?

A New Dawn destroys it.

That is obviously just my opinion and I miss emotes.
Script for emotes somewhere on the forums.
And to be honest, I like the In Flames' new album, but it's not one of my first choice albums to put on if people ask me to put on music.
I'll listen to it, but I won't willingly put it on.
I'm not a fan of the new In Flames album at all. I still prefer their old stuff.

After listening to these two songs, I will agree with Leather Belt. I think "A New Dawn" is a stronger song overall. His vocals actually have some coarseness to them still, as well. This honestly surprises me. :v:
I don't know how much hate there is here for The Agonist, my all time favorite band, but they just released a new EP

They seem to inspire either great hatred or love from people.
Doesn't sound bad to me. But then, the Agonist have always been fine to me. I mean yeah they may be a metalcore band, but honestly the line between hard metalcore (such as the Agonist) and melodic death metal is so blurred that it's no surprise to me there are so many bands that are referred to as both.
Really the only people who listen to MDM and yet get bitchy about metalcore bands like the Agonist are those who just need conflict and something to scapegoat. The differences are minimal.

Their first album was metalcore, but the second is certainly not. I don't know if it stands up to the high standard of melodic death metal but it's most definitely a form of death metal.
