Stop being so pretentious. You can't classify what is good art and not. Moderators will have different opinions, just look at the goddamn DD's on DA, they are approved by the mods. Some are utter shit, some are amazing. You would put the whole world on 10 peoples shoulder and nobody would want to hang around the place because they wouldn't be allowed to express themselves freely and share their art and allow themselves to get better thanks to constructive feedback on their, then, horrible art. Why would anyone want to hang around on a place that puts quality labels on peoples art and deem peoples creations "not art"? Why would you want to freely get raped by pretentious assholes that thinks they know what they are doing and are the prime example of someone that knows what art is?
this is good art
Id' prefer people to be allowed to post their own works and just have it ignored instead of having an elitist nazi community that decides for everyone what is and what is not art.
I guess what dA really lacks of, is a competent team of moderators. A team of people who know their policy and can delete deviations that really infringe rules. Like banning people who keep posting photos of themselves like they were on Facebook/Myspace
Id' prefer people to be allowed to post their own works and just have it ignored instead of having an elitist nazi community that decides for everyone what is and what is not art.
It actually is art. The drawing style represents the child-like innocence of people, but the fact that I drew myself as a bear shows how de-humanised people can become with age. Also, the statement "jasun is awesum" represents the sense of self-entitlement many people can get as they start to sort their peers in to social rankings from an early age. jk thats bullshit
Do it, make crappy photos that are ~deep~ and crap drawings - furry etc bannable offences.
I agree, but some anthro art can actually be decent, even though that most of it is absolute shit.
The problem is that Conceptart and Deviantart are two of the most heavily trafficked art submission websites on the internet, but Deviantart is too shit and Conceptart is too professional. I signed up for an account there months ago but I'm still too scared to post. There needs to be a website that acts as a middleground, and maybe have some kind of community user submission moderation. Can't code worth a damn and can't afford a webhost, so please take my idea and create something wonderful.
I guess what dA really lacks of, is a large enough team of moderators that also happen to be competent. A team of people who know their policy and can delete deviations that really infringe rules. The real problem that not many people realize is that DA is run by a rather small group of mods compared to its ever-growing community. A larger team to handle such a workload would be much better. Bonus points if they are actually competent.
The thing is though, I agree that my idea is basically a remake of ConceptArt - what is really needed, is throughout cleaning of DevArt, deleting shit entries and storing away the old, shitty entries.

problem with deviant art is all the talentless kids / creepy ~fanart~ artists everyone's got to start somewhere, but really a lot of people there can't tell the difference between having something to post and having to post something
As KmartSqrl said earlier, www.behance.net Awesome site, some really interesting stuff on there.
Stop being so pretentious. You can't classify what is good art and not.
I personally know I can't, I was more meaning when people post "5 second shit" which wastes everyone's time even their own. Facepunch also has a policy on "5 second shit" here too (or I was sure it did someone correct me if it's not the case) and like someone else said a middle ground site geared towards improving would be nice rather than just a site for showcasing. DA is so anti C&C that is my main issue with it more than what subject people choose to draw. Some of us gave off the wrong impression but I think what people were wanting was an improvement site where you don't feel too afraid to post or you don't feel like your stuff will get lost in a sea of other submissions and never be seen. I don't think we're all saying we're amazing and know what art truly is. Then again I can only speak for myself, so sorry if I gave off the impression that I was being pretentious as it wasn't my intention.

That's just life, we are a shit-ton of people living here on earth. How will you make it so they aren't afraid to post anyhow? Ban everyone that makes someone feel uneasy?
I said it's what people wanted not that we were going to do it successfully. :v: All I am going to say about this any more though.
