Comics books, I've been catching up on my Martian Manhunter and a few other comics.
Oh yeah. The thing is that in manga, you really can't say how old people are. Guys look the same from ages 11 to 21. Girls look from 11 to 18. Srsly. IN American comics you can pretty much tell the age.
I perfer comics.
Comics win big time. In terms of animation, Anime wins.
well said :,) and mech manga has so much detail just for black and white. Unlike American comics some comics don't even have that good detail even with color.
You are joking
Spider Jerusalem is angered by those who think Manga is superior.
I didn't see anyone say that manga is better, I've seen people say they prefer manga though.
You are joking
Between the two I would have to say manga wins in the overall detail department, some go to some pretty insane detail all the way to scenery porn. Ie: Blame.
wow this is some twilight zone shit, I just read the issues 1-6 of runaways. definitely western comics for me. back in the day with stuff like Akira manga and anime was good, but it's falling into self parody nowadays, with bullshite like rosario and vampire or lucky star and what have you. [editline]10:05AM[/editline] also you misspelt japanese
Comics because I don't read manga.
Comics because I don't read manga.
Riiight.
Comics. The Walking Dead, 'nuff said. They're both good mediums though if they're well made.
Overall would have to say western comics. Then again that's probably because my best friend's a comic buff.
Manga.
Manga. I'd like to read some western comics, but I had a bad first impression. Tried reading Singularity 7 a while back and couldn't stomach the art. Anyone got any good reccomendations?

My favorite aspect is that none of the characters are safe from death, so even the person that the comic follows mainly can die out of nowhere. The only American comics I'm reading is Donald Duck and Beetle Bailey. Otherwise I'm choosing manga such as One piece!
I read both. But I read more manga than comics, so eh.
i wonder what the outcome will be on this english bbs :downs:
Comics - Originality Manga - Good art Personally I don't read either, but if I had to choose, it'd be comics.
I can not pick any one of them. If I want action and bad jokes I choose western comics, if I need a break with humor or a deep, thought-through story line, I choose eastern comics. Usually, though, mangas with humor do NOT have deep, thought-through storyline (Yotsuba&! vs. for example Bleach (which I haven't read)). I'd say I prefer manga because it's over-the-top and not as constrained to real-world rules as western comics (inb4 Superman). Western comics do not have the same narrative finesse as many manga artist manage, but they do sometimes manage to substitute it with hardcore action. The focal point in that sentence being "sometimes". But I enjoy both, and as such I can not pick a side. Mostly because of Deadpool.
Yay Deadpool!

I find most serial manga to be monotonous and repetitive (but to be honest it's part of the draw of it, You know what you will get and you will be entertained slightly). Also your bold parts are wrong, Does Proteus not sound over the top? He is a mutant from the X-men series and if he is looking at you you might as well consider him god.

Most comic series deliver your basic story: Exposition, Conflict, all that shit. From what manga I've read it's Exposition, then some putzing around, maybe a conflict, even more putzing, wangst, resolution of conflict.
The only American comics I'm reading is Donald Duck and Beetle Bailey. Otherwise I'm choosing manga such as One piece!
... I can't tell if this is satire or not... damn you Poe's law!
Comics. Every time I think of manga I think of tentacle rape hentai.
Shouldn't that make you vote FOR it?

The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. The best comic ever created, so comics.

I'm reading through Berserk right now, the artist shows the protagonist's life as he grows up and in each incarnation you can see him subtly getting older while maintaining an extremely realistic style. Compared to something like Jhonen Vasquez's artstyle which has CHILD, ADULT, ELDERLY with no variation. It's all down to the individual artist's style.
The way I see it Manga is quantity over quality when it comes to series while American comics have a comfortable semi-consistency throughout.
Are you kidding? Most American comic series continue with no end, constantly switching artists and writers taking the stories in wildly different directions.
As for you facepunchers, You're trying to compare this: WATCHMEN With this: AKIRA
A hammy narration from Watchmen compared to a random page from Akira? What's your point?
