Two years ago I went to Normandy. It was a nerd-gasm, to be able to visit the places I had only seen in films, photos, and games. But it was also humbling. I challenge anyone to visit the various War Cemetaries and not be speechless, to not feel utterly humbled.
All of the War Cemetaries should be visited. The American one is the most daunting, however. While there are over twice as many Germans buried in the German War Cemtary, it is the American one which is the most astonishing. Pictures really can't prepare you for it.
The British Cemetaries are spread out across Normandy and are smaller, but no less humbling. :britain:
I took some pictures, too.
The 66th anniversary of 06.06.44. Coincidence ?
No.
I have a picture of a Canadian solider, an American solider, and a British solider all sitting at a table, all of them missing a limb from this operation.
