What? My life experiences are seperate from my brain?
well they could be. digitalization. I'm serious, if that ever becomes a possibility in my lifetime, I will copy myself, or if possible, transfer my mind.
Isn't that the same thing, since life sucks ass?
I guess in layman's terms you could call him a Debby Downer or a pessimist. Life does suck ass though, mainly because religion is so rampant in society that it creates barriers between people. Say you're an atheist, and you fall in love with a believer. Instantly there is a wall put between you, that wall is called religion. Bad things happen.
That's how science works
Nyeh, doesn't seem to help that much as there is a lot of things that changes all the time. I want to eat my eggs in peace when I want, not just those times they find out it's ok to eat :(
Well, in a way He has influenced you, but you are blinded by a thing called science.
It's the other way around with you.
well they could be. digitalization.
You mean my life expereinces from the digital world are not stored in my head?
Well, in a way He has influenced you, but you are blinded by a thing called science.
You keep changing your mind about everything. So, God knows exactly what's going to happen, why does he need to intervene? Why can't he just make everything the way he wants from the beginning? Also, science doesn't blind, because you can't understand it all at once. Religion: Theres a dude in the sky who is omnipotent. Don't do these ten things. Science:
Astrometry • Cosmology • Extragalactic astronomy • Galactic astronomy • Planetary science • Stellar astronomy Anatomy • Astrobiology • Biochemistry • Bioengineering • Bioethics • Biogeography • Bioinformatics • Biophysics • Biopsychology • Biotechnology • Botany • Cell biology • Cryobiology • Developmental biology • Ecology • Ethnobiology • Evolutionary biology • Forestry • Genetics • Gerontology • Immunology • Limnology • Marine biology • Mathematical biology • Metabolism • Microbiology • Molecular biology • Neuroscience • Paleontology • Parasitology • Pharmacology • Physiology • Radiobiology • Soil biology • Biostatistics • Theoretical biology • Toxicology • Zoology Acid-base chemistry • Alchemy • Analytical chemistry • Astrochemistry • Biochemistry • Colloidal chemistry • Crystallography • Chemical engineering • Environmental chemistry • Food science • Geochemistry • Green chemistry • Inorganic chemistry • Materials science • Medicinal chemistry • Metallurgy • Molecular physics • Nuclear chemistry • Organic chemistry • Organometallic chemistry • Photochemistry • Physical chemistry • Radiochemistry • Solid-state chemistry • Stereochemistry • Supramolecular chemistry • Surface chemistry • Theoretical chemistry Atmospheric sciences • Ecology • Environmental science • Geodesy • Geography • Geology • Geomorphology • Geophysics • Glaciology • Hydrology • Limnology • Oceanography • Paleoclimatology • Palynology • Physical geography • Soil science • Space science • Volcanology Applied and interdisciplinary physics • Atomic • Computational physics • Condensed matter physics • Experimental physics • Mechanics • Particle physics • Plasma physics • Quantum mechanics • Solid mechanics • Theoretical physics • Thermodynamics

You mean my life expereinces from the digital world are not stored in my head?
no, I'm saying you could store your memories digitally. and eventually, your entire mind. read: GITS
Wow I am way behind today. Many clocks for me. :/
13.7 billion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WMAP You are all terrible at science.
I always round it up to 14 billion, just for convenience's sake.
You know, I forgot that this thread is supposed to be about the universe, not religion versus science. The universe is, and has expanded, from the beginning of time, IE: The Big Bang or other such singularity theories. Now, this would take a long time for it to expand to what it is now, and light, which is traveling million of years to reach this earth, has reached us, has proof of the stars in the sky, meaning it has been around at least One million years, for the stars are visible, even though they are millions of light years away.
Someone may have already posted this but I felt it was fitting: [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/downloader/religiouscartoon.PNG[/img_thumb]
That doesn't really work on religion versus science though because the questions religion puts up against science has yet to have an answer. But of course, religion doesn't have any answers either. But at least science does explain a lot of things and prove it.
And God was invented by them.
IF God existed, then you made an infinite loop. Which would be craxy. :pcgaming:
no, I'm saying you could store your memories digitally. and eventually, your entire mind. read: GITS
Haven't seen Ghost In The Shell yet. Well yeah, that's probably possible in the future, being electrical signals and all. But not in our lifetime :( [editline]05:20AM[/editline]
You know, I forgot that this thread is supposed to be about the universe, not religion versus science. Everything in the OP is based on religious bullshit going against science (but failing hard at it).
Well yeah, that's probably possible in the future, being electrical signals and all. But not in our lifetime :(
Our memories aren't electrical signals though. Aren't they comprised of fused neural pathways? I thought that different memories physically change your brain. (Making it harder to digitize)
Our memories aren't electrical signals though. Aren't they comprised of fused neural pathways? I thought that different memories physically change your brain. (Making it harder to digitize)
I honestly haven't looked one bit into it, just taking what I've picked up. But yeah, that's probably it. But I don't doubt that we'll find a way to store it sometime in the distant future. Whether we live in the milkyway by then or not doesn't matter.
Haven't seen Ghost In The Shell yet. Well yeah, that's probably possible in the future, being electrical signals and all. But not in our lifetime :(
you never know :ohdear:

We'll be dead by then. Even if we do manage to populate the entire galaxy and hold on for millions of years we'll probably lose everything when the Andromeda passes through and fucks our shit up.
I think God was in heaven for a while created earth and all, and adam and eve spent a long time in the garden of eden, it could have been 1 million years the bible does not specify
I love everyone.
Dude that's so gay
Just to clear some shit up, our soul is just our brain. Just a bunch of neural pathways. Really opens your eyes, don't it? That what defines us can easily changed and easily destroyed.
you never know :ohdear:
Oh dear? Nah... It'll just be another medium you have to keep safe from hacking and stealing. Especially if you are a paedophile, murderer, rapist or whatever :buddy:
Dumb dumb dumb dumb. I'm not an Atheist, just a bit Agnostic. Either way, the Earth is NOT 10,000 years old. Where the fuck would you get that idea?
How is it not religion versus science? Everything in the OP is based on religious bullshit going against science (but failing hard at it).
But, thats how religous people are, they see something that can't be seen, and decide to make an excuse for it. IE: God.
Just to clear some shit up, our soul is just our brain. Just a bunch of neural pathways. Really opens your eyes, don't it? That what defines us can easily changed and easily destroyed.
Our soul is not anything at all.
But, thats how religous people are, they see something that can't be seen, and decide to make an excuse for it. IE: God.
No, that's not how religious people are. That's how overly religious people are. And overly religious people try to convince you that science is dumb and religion is the one truth, which is obviously always a discussion with the topic "Science vs Religion", no matter what the topic started as.
I doubt we'll ever leave the galaxy. We'll be dead by then. Even if we do manage to populate the entire galaxy and hold on for millions of years we'll probably lose everything when the Andromeda passes through and fucks our shit up.
Why? We aren't that far away from being able to civilize other planets. We've come this far in no time, and we have thousands upon thousands of years to accomplish it before the sun explodes. The human race is doomed to die at some point no matter what. If the universe is unlimited and keeps expanding, then the time is also unlimited, with unlimited time we are guaranteed to die out at some point. And if the universe isn't unlimited/live forever, then, it goes without saying.
Our soul is not anything at all.
Well of course. But the same people who convinced humanity that there's an invisible man say so, so it must be right hurrr durr.

We've come this far in no time, and we have thousands upon thousands of years to accomplish it before the sun explodes.
Unless we figure out faster-than-light travel, we're doomed to this solar system (or galaxy, depending on how patient we are) forever.
