This thread is a religious debate clusterfuck and it was known from the minute the thread was first made that it would be. I find it amusing how many people are instantly drawn in into these topics.
That doesn't really work on religion versus science though because the questions religion puts up against science has yet to have an answer. But of course, religion doesn't have any answers either. But at least science does explain a lot of things and prove it.
Here we have two conventions, each using their own conventional terms and wisdoms. You have the bootstrap effect. Each convention supports itself with its own reasoning. Here's where we run into problems. Science, using scientific conventions, cuts religious convention to pieces because one convention breaks the other convention's bubble, questions its convention, and sheds light on the fact that it is holding itself up by its own bootstraps. Religion can do the same to science, though you have to choose your audience (see: OP) for it to be effective. All you guys are doing is poking each other with faith sticks. Systemic thought, no matter how well it supports itself, is supported by itself, and that's the weakness you guys are poking with your sticks. You should be laughing at it instead, in yourselves too.
Oh dear? Nah... It'll just be another medium you have to keep safe from hacking and stealing. Especially if you are a paedophile, murderer, rapist or whatever :buddy:
norton, sentience edition :downs:
This thread is a religious debate clusterfuck and it was known from the minute the thread was first made that it would be. I find it amusing how many people are instantly drawn in into these topics.
The same reason the OP made the thread.
Unless we figure out faster-than-light travel, we're doomed to this solar system (or galaxy, depending on how patient we are) forever.
This solar system at max. The distances that we think we can travel, and the distances we can actually travel, are really different. I doubt we will ever get to Pluto(Not that we really want to... Ammonia soaked Ice isn't so cool) and if we did, it would be come an isolated colony at the far reaches of our known universe.
This thread is a religious debate clusterfuck and it was known from the minute the thread was first made that it would be. I find it amusing how many people are instantly drawn in into these topics.
I think it's fun, even though it's pointless. I just wish more posters were serious about it and didn't come up with these shitty troll threads.
Both sides feel strongly about it. I see nothing wrong with this. Debates are how opinions change.
I follow these threads and on facepunch and see that not many people's opinions change much. Though, the OP's opinion does need changing...
Unless we figure out faster-than-light travel, we're doomed to this solar system (or galaxy, depending on how patient we are) forever.
I'm pretty darn sure we'll overcome it with all that time we have on our hands. Bending space. Traveling faster than the speed of light. Teleportation. Whatever. I'm extremely sure we'll manage to do at least one of those kind of things. Just because it is impossible now and seems impossible for the rest of our existence doesn't mean it is, history has proven that dozens of times.
I personally know the OP. He's laughing at you, just thought I'd let you guys know.
I personally know the OP. He's laughing at you, just thought I'd let you guys know.
Why? Because we replied to his silly troll thread? I'd be laughing at myself for being so silly.

Atleast http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulated_reality#Nick_Bostrom is interesting to read, this is just dumb.
This thread is a religious debate clusterfuck and it was known from the minute the thread was first made that it would be. I find it amusing how many people are instantly drawn in into these topics.
These topics are fun because they are stupid and won't get anyone nowhere at all. It's like two people trying to kill eachother by shooting eachother with a gun, but neither has loaded their gun and just keeps pulling the trigger with no effect coming out of it except for the sound *click* which no one seems to care about. I believe in God, reincarnation, the spiritual and science, yet I don't believe in any of them. I'm undecisive and just couldn't care less, yet I care a lot because it's a big topic where I can just talk and talk and talk and it won't really get me anywhere.
I personally know the OP. He's laughing at you, just thought I'd let you guys know.
Of course he is, it's a troll thread.
How do we know that the OPs opinion didn't change?
I doubt we'll ever leave the galaxy. We'll be dead by then. Even if we do manage to populate the entire galaxy and hold on for millions of years we'll probably lose everything when the Andromeda passes through and fucks our shit up.
Or we run ourselves into this. If only we could break lightspeed, then this could be a reality.
Unless we figure out faster-than-light travel, we're doomed to this solar system (or galaxy, depending on how patient we are) forever.
Impossible, you would gain infinite mass at the speed of light.
Posting in a troll thread.
shit ITT
Impossible, you would gain infinite mass at the speed of light.
Bending space is an alternative, but we don't even know if it's possible.
The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence.
This is true. The absence of evidence is not evidence of an absence. It is, however, highly suggestive of an absence.
Why? Because we replied to his silly troll thread? I'd be laughing at myself for being so silly.
It's just funny an obvious troll thread has garnered enough attention for 11 pages of replies, no?
I like how the OP stops posting.
Impossible, you would gain infinite mass at the speed of light.
Hell yeah. How awesome isn't that? You can destroy planets with a piece of paper.
It's just funny an obvious troll thread has garnered enough attention for 11 pages of replies, no?
Not more? Puny attempt.
Hell yeah. How awesome isn't that? You can destroy planets with a piece of paper.
Fuck that, a spitball.
Fuck that, a spitball.
Dust. Molecules.
Bending space is an alternative, but we don't even know if it's possible.
How the shit could you bend fucking space, unless you believe in absolute space. but, that, sir, is a matter of opinion.
well you're wrong lol
How the shit could you bend fucking space, unless you believe in absolute space. but, that, sir, is a matter of opinion.
Lots of scientists talks about the possibility to bend space. There was this video explaining the 4th dimension which kind of explains that, though it was actually a form of timetraveling so not really :v:. Well, I need some sleep now.
Some people actually do believe the Earth is 10,000 years old. It's really surprising that anybody still thinks that, and I'm surprised we don't still have people preaching that the Earth is flat or that the sun revolves around it. But I admire their resolve. They're somehow able to ignore absolutely ridiculous amounts of evidence and substitute their own beliefs in place, and still be able to preach their views despite the fact that everyone knows they're wrong, and keeps reminding them of that. If need be, if their Frankenstein argument is falling apart at the stitched fleshy seams, they'll resort to circular logic, unacceptable thought experiments, referencing somebody else's argument, or even just badmouthing anybody who happens to be right. The part about all of this that really gets me is that they're absolutely, inarguably wrong from any standpoint on solid ground-- and that they refuse to admit it.
