Something's up with the database server anyway. The web server is fine.
How much would Garry's entire server set up cost?
[editline]01:13AM[/editline]
roughly.

Let's hope that with the transition to VB4, Garry finally updates the database? Isn't he currently using an out of date version of MySQL, which plays a large factor in query efficiency?
Why is facepunch so fucking slow!
Am I the only blue that doesn't care about the GMF drama? I don't know exactly what happened, or want to know. It's none of my business.
I do know that I would be pretty sick of people who it has nothing to do with bothering me all the time for information about it whilst I was trying to dealt with it.

Yeah, it's very annoying!!
Stupid MARGE.
The site isn't too slow for me but it seems to log me out every time I try to open a new thread or go back to the front page
And it's not because I'm going to facepunch.com instead of www.facepunch.com
Don't blame MARGE, it's the db's fault (fucking BART).

Doubt it. Think about how much shit it has to sort through every time someone searches. He has to use that version because anything later runs like shit on Windows.

Cost of 100Mb leased line internet added to however much the servers put on his office's electricity bill.

It's been doing that for most people all day.
How come I keep becoming page king with useless posts?
Seriously

it wasn't just golds. blues were scammed too, which is why we should get to know.
AFAIK if you were affected you'll get to know, if you weren't keep ya nose oot.
AFAIK if you were affected you'll get to know, if you weren't keep ya nose oot.
If most golds were not affected then why do they get to know :colbert:
Not all of the golds were affected, so why do all of the golds get to know about the MUFC2007? :v:
Not all of the golds were affected, so why do all of the golds get to know about the MUFC2007? :v:
Because not all Golds were active during this couple of weeks. There is a chance that there's a Gold on holiday right now who was affected by this and has not been able to see what has been happening.
We have no idea if that is true and because of that, We need to have it so all golds can see anything related because we don't know they weren't affected.
I think it's fair to assume that it would be best if you did not bring up anything involving this in publicly viewable forums again too.
You are a blue member and you're not involved, so it's not really your business. I'm trying to be a dick, but that is the truth.
Think about all the people who just became golds. They're probably all smug thinking "Yeah, I get to know what's going on even though I wasn't involved. :smug:"
One of the privileges which comes with being a gold I suppose.

Actually the 5.1 series has some problems on windows so we'd have much worse performance if he had the latest.
If most golds were not affected then why do they get to know :colbert:
Presumably the discussion is in the GMF because it's a private forum which nobody can leak info from which would affect whatever investigations are going on.
I still don't know why you care so much.
I can understand Garry wanting to run the web servers on Windows, but if we'd get a performance increase from running the database on Linux (keeping the web on Windows) then I don't see why he doesn't switch. When it comes to MySQL you're poking around at a command line either way.

Ahh, my bad, thought Bart was running on Linux.
Also, cbrain has a point, why is it running on Windows, anyway?

I thought he wanted to make gmod on linux, so, yeah, linux

I have nothing better to do than bitch on an online forum because some users get a forum that I can't get in to.
Seems like Garry fixed the loading times.
http://www.facepunch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=371 ?
Twitter shut off their old authentication system which Beanstalk (Garry's SVN provider) was using to feed updates to Twitter. As a result of that nothing's being tweeted so Garry set it up to post there instead.

According to one of Garry's tweets from awhile ago RALPHWIGGUM is the only server running Windows, but I haven't got a clue what that does (GMod Linux testing?).
Also, cbrain has a point, why is it running on Windows, anyway?
Yeah Windows is a decent web server if you want to make life easier, but with MySQL you're not gaining anything by running it on Windows; it runs in a command line just like it would with Linux.
Instead of asking "why run windows" try asking "why run linux".
The forum's performance has nothing to do with Windows or Linux, IIS or apache.
Twas the database we were talking about. I have nothing against IIS, and to be honest I'd probably use it myself for the web server. If the MySQL 5.1 series would offer performance improvements (I'm not saying it would but someone raised that point) then there's a reason to run the db on Linux (since iirc it ran like shit on Windows).
